Disney's Hollywood Pictures made Tombstone, which is a highly regarded modern western film.
I wouldn't mind but the ride really should switch to being a "greatest Disney hits" format. Tombstone is highly regarded, but the average guest wouldn't know off the top of their head what movie it's from. Since TDO has no intent on bringing more Pixar to DHS :p, a Pixar sequence could work. I wouldn't mind Tombstone but considering it came out in 1993 and it's rated R, I can't see the Disney of today adding it. Everything has to be kid-friendly!! :D

Gangster and Western aren't really Disney though. Roger Rabbit or Marvel for gangster and maybe a Pixar scene for the Western. Neither say Disney to me.

And the finale could be a mix of AAs, the montage and an all new original song for the ride.
Some of Disney's best work in the parks didn't really say "Disney" either. Rides like Pirates of the Caribbean (pre movies), Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and many others are only "Disney" because of how great they are. Also, a ride called "The Great Movie Ride" should NOT just be about Disney. It would be a slap in the face to other studios, even if it is a Disney park.

A well-rounded Great Movie Ride that best represents Disney (while giving some under-ulitilzed IPs some representation)
Scenes:
Steamboat Willie/Plane Crazy
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs
Mary Poppins
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Lion King, Avengers or Pixar (where Western scene used to be)
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Nightmare Before Christmas/Sleepy Hollow
Muppets (Casablanca part, tribute to Great Muppet Movie Ride)
Fantasia
The Wizard of Oz (despite not being Disney, this film's timeless... and the Wicked Witch is still a great AA feat)
New musical finale with AAs, projections and a listing of all of Disney's feature films from 1937 to present day.

Well John Wayne and Clint Eastwood are a bit of a stretch for "Disney". I do know that some of Disney's best tends to be without any IP usage... but it's not supposed to be an original ride... it's supposed to showcase great films. I wouldn't mind the Western sequence if there was a great Disney film (not Touchstone or Hollywood Pictures) to feature. Gangster would work better as the old Crimestoppers concept. Plus, the Western film genre isn't particularly popular these days.

Honestly just replacing 2-3 AA's would be a good start...as well as generally updating the other scenes. Also I forget who said it but putting the Jack Sparrow thing in there would have been genious IMO.

The storyline with the hijacking needs to stay. Its what makes this ride so interesting and, well, great. Also, it is vital to the even deeper storyline of us traveling into the movies and we get our own movie bit ourselves.

But they could at least change up every once in a while the ending line "and we will have you do one last scene with us--the goodbye scene!!"

PotC could replace the Tarzan scene and they could even reuse the swinging mechanism and change it to a pirate swinging on a rope. The scene could be a battle between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman.

At the moment, yes.....

If they did start talking about refreshing this ride, I wonder if the agreements that allowed them to reference non - Disney movies would still be in force? Or would they have to negotiate some of that all over again? If the latter is true, I can see any (hypothetical) updates making the ride more and more about Disney movies out of convenience, among other things.
