American Idol Experience To Close

This is as inaccurate as the previous information that the land had been scaled back to something similar to CMM.

Cameron clearly stated that there will be several rides. That means at least 3. You need better sources.
I meant in terms of theming/substance. The boat ride, walkthrough and Soarin' 2.0 are what's been announced. The speed bike coaster has been said to be gone. Diagon Alley looks to have tons of shops, details, etc. Don't know enough about Pandora to say if it will top DA or Cars Land

Not sure that is the goal. Rather I think they will be adding a diverse selection of attractions across all 4 parks to counter Universal. It would be smart to put the empasis on Star Wars though. IMO.

The AIE and Sounds Dangerous combined are one of the largest buildings in the park and are also in the center of the park. If they do close it at the end of the year they better have something in mind to replace one or both since it's such a prime location

Star Wars: The Magic of Myth exhibition.

That's only reasonable as long as the space is used for a new attraction. I never go to AIE, but would much prefer it stays open and draws people there, so they wouldn't be at other attractions I am doing.

I was pretty neutral on Sounds Dangerous but I remember people cheering its closure and now... it's just empty. Much rather have an open attraction than nothing.

...but I'd much rather have them building Star Wars stuff sooner rather than later.
I will Be happy as long as they do some thing productive with the building !

There are a number of shows and venues in Central Florida that are not my favorite. The theming, the content, the execution of all the shows in town are not all equally impressive.

However, they employ actors. They employ artists. They provide a place for talented people to perform, express themselves, and get paid.

To celebrate the closing of any performance or arts venue is inconsiderate, insecure, mindless of the big picture, and sad.

And if you think the Equity performers in this show will just be "moved to another show" then you have no idea how Equity contracts work.

Out of curiosity, what are an actor's (and others in the business) options in this kind of situation? Being laid off is never good. Does the fact that these people know now that they may not have work in January mean they can start looking for other shows? Or are they limited to waiting until January to begin their next role?

This would be an interesting development. While I welcome the closing of AIE it does give visitors something else to do throughout the day with the option of a elimination show and the final show. I can not imagine them closing and not immediately replacing it with something else. As it stands, HS is literally a half day park.

With that said, AIE had no business opening at HS in the first place. When it was first announced - AI was already on the decline and it was predicted by many disney fans that it would not withstand longevity. I remember I went to HS a few times the year it opened and the CMs literally begged people to sign up - I felt so bad for them. I assume participation has increased in recent years but I do not waste my time to go see it. Even worse, remember when AIE first opened and they reduced Fantasmic! to 3 nights a week - I immediately sent a letter to disney sounding off. If this is true - I am excited for the future of HS - this park needs some love asap. Stars land and cars land both have huge audiences and will sustain longevity. Over at AK - I cant say the same about Avatar - granted another movie is coming out. I just do not think most people will find that interesting. Joe Rhode should have been given the opportunity to design an entire new land on his own.

Yes, they can look for other work at any time, of course. Many actors in this area are employed by multiple theme parks and companies, for the simple fact that the jobs don't pay that well. The cast, by the way, saw the writing on the wall this spring when they didn't audition any potential replacements.

Disney's performance contracts all expire at different points in the spring, so it's very unlikely this cast has other opportunities just waiting for them to step into. A lot of them know multiple shows and can sub at any number of them, but in terms of finding a full-time gig at Disney, they're pretty much out of luck until next spring.

It was just a placeholder and served the purpose well. I suspect Frozen overlay is the same while they determine if the franchise has staying power. Then they could build a permanent attraction.

I understand some of that. Reminds me a lot of being a laid off teacher... I know firsthand how horrible that can be.

Here's hoping that the people of that show can find more work until something long term comes along!

Frozen is getting on my last nerves just saying. I am not too keen of a frozen overlay at Malstrom but that seems to be almost a given.
