American Idol Experience is...

I did AI last summer and had a blast! Clearly, I'm too old to have any personal use for a golden ticket and didn't expect to win, but had a great time anyway.

For those who haven't given it a try, I say go for it before it closes. I was taken to other areas of the park for video spots. My family was in my video segment with me. We were given great fast pass priority cards (walked right onto TSM twice!) and, best of all, I received compliments from total strangers each day for the rest of my trip. People came up to me on busses, in restaurants, etc...

More people see this attraction than you'd realize.

Yeah, it's time. It was an epic failure--unfortunate, because I actually enjoyed the attraction (and I do not watch American Idol). However, they overestimated the excitement guests would have toward actually trying out for the attraction. Most people either don't have the guts to try out (me) or don't want to potentially give up an entire day of their vacation for this (my wife--especially true given that we usually park hop and often have dining reservations that we don't want to miss).

Agree completely! Very nice attraction but too time consuming. We walked by it first trip but took chance second trip, we loved it.

And the DHS competition should get one night of airtime on Idol each year.

Ooh, I like this idea!

I know the first year winning got you an entry into the real AI auditions, have they stopped that?

The winner of the finale show gets the Dream Ticket which enables them to go to the front of the line for any AI audition in the country. "Best Fast Pass Ever." ;)

I'm glad you had a good time! I know at the last AIE show I went to (it was the 7:00 PM finale show), I actually hung around at the exit for a little bit and complimented a few guests on their performances. :) And the finale shows are usually packed!

Even for the people who enjoy the show and want to participate. After the initial "Going to be judged on my talent and skills during vacation" deal there is also the fact that it takes a huge commitment of most people's WDW time. Not everyone are so frequent or local. So you have to commit so much of your day for the encore performance and everything else. People pay a lot for every minute on WDW theme park property.

This is true.

Congratulations on giving it a shot and glad to hear it was a positive experience for you. Have you performed before or did you just enter on a dare?
We've enjoyed all the shows we have attended. One of our friends performs in a small group locally, has a great voice and wonderful stage presence and had wanted to compete but when we got to the park, she decided not to take the time away from her WDW time.

But standing in line for 60 minutes for a two minute tour of Peter Pan's Flight is not time consuming?

I would MUCH rather it be the other way around for all attractions.

Thank you. I was walking by and decided on the spur of the moment. I had gone in last year, early in the morning (mistake #1) and did a ballad (mistake #2) so I got the usual, "you definitely have potential. Get some lessons, blah , blah". This time, I looked on the list for something easy and peppy; wound up with "Walking on Sunshine". It did not take away from my park time very much. In fact, it became the highlight of our day because they chose me and my family for the whole video segment that's part of the show. We were taken over to NY street to film. Honestly, it was fun. Many of my friends have done the AI and all enjoyed it.

Lights, Motor, Action is 30+ mins... do you say that is to time consuming too?

I'd give the time consuming award to Ellen's Energy Adventure

That's the thing, there is a large faction of people that visit themeparks that have no interest in seeing the shows. They view the shows as time consuming, or time that can be better spent waiting in line for the high demand attractions.

But standing in line for 60 minutes for a two minute tour of Peter Pan's Flight is not time consuming?

See above. I'm not defending it, but it's a mindset that people have. Personally, if a show is well done, I will make sure I see it every visit to a park (Festival of the Lion King, Aladdin a Musical Spectacular). Comparatively, shows like American Idol Experience, Lights Motors Action, Beauty and the Beast, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones and even Fantasmic are not all "must see" shows for me. It's a matter of opinion, but it's one that's fairly common. Typically on a day at the Studios I'll only hit up 1 or 2 of those shows.

The majority of people that visit Disney World, do so to go on rides. This is largely why the Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park in the world, it is dominated by rides. By comparison, Hollywood Studios is dominated by shows - I would expect that in the next 10 years there will have to be a switch towards the 3-5 minute rides in favor of the 20-40 minute shows. That's not to say that all of the shows will be replaced, but I certainly expect some of them to disappear.

I'd honestly be shocked if this were leaving so quickly. It's one of the newest attractions at the park!

This falls into the category of things that should have never been attempted...like that Narnia thing they did.

I watched the first couple episodes of this glorified karaoke contest, and never looked back. They should have made this an event on their cruise boats and left it at that.

I'd sooner see attractions and rides based on under-represented properties of Disney Pixar....heck, I'd sooner see a muppets live action show lampooning AI, in it's place

While it is one one the newest attractions at the Park!, it doesn't automatically mean an attraction is better or should have been in the Park at first place. I really can't say if American idol experience inferior.

A prime example of a new attraction being inferior to the old attraction at the same spot was The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) replacing the original Tiki room. I really can't say if American idol experience inferior.

A Prime example of an attraction that shouldn't have been open at an Disney park was Superstar Limo as Disney California Adventure. That attraction only lasted a year. American Idol Experience belongs in this category because of the timing was wrong for opening it.

American Idol Experience opened 2 years too late. I know that space always been for shows, but the timing was off for opening American idol Experience. I know American Idol Experience was popular in its first year, but it has dropped off. While the ratings at American Idol were strong in 2009 than now, the show already peaked in 2007. American's Idol age demographic also changed with time.

I hate this!!!!!! I did the American Idol experience 2 times now and HAVE LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT BECAUSE IT IS MY DREAM!!!!!! I almost won! And to close it already? I need to be the CEO of WDW!!! First Half Pop Century and now this? Are you kidding me? They need to expand and not take away and replace! It doesn't help. I am so sad!!!!!

Shocked and upset! :(
