Americal Idol, OMG!

ruben did win, you're right. i think they just refer to Clay so much because he was indeed a wildcard but he ended up making it to the final two, which was probably unlikely (that is, when they brought him in as a wildcard). not to mention how his career has skyrocketed! does anyone else find it a little strange that he and Kelly Clarkson are going on tour together, and not Kelly and Ruben? i just found that odd.
on a personal note, i truely think Clay should've won last year...but, as it turns out, it really didn't seem to matter for him...his career has done just fine without the AI title.
btw, those are all just my opinion...i'm not sure why they're making it sound as though Clay won Idol last year...and that is a good point that you brought up!

For me, Ruben may have gotten the most votes, but Clay won the competition. America loves the 'underdog' and nerdy Clay came out of nowhere and went up against stiff competition, and blew everyone away.

Anyone watching the 'reject' show last Monday would've thought William Hung was this years American Idol and, in alot of ways, he is!

it is a little odd, although I think Kelly's and Clay's music "go together" better. Does that make any sense? Ruben's cd is more R&B, less pop. It's really good, just more mellow than the other two.

AND THE 2004 AMERICAN IDOL IS:

(from MSN website)

'Idol' Reject Hung Has Recording Deal
Mar 8, 3:40 PM EST

Who needs "American Idol"? William Hung doesn't — he already has a recording contract.

The singer, who became a fan favorite — but not a judges' favorite — during open auditions for the Fox series with his spirited version of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs," has signed a deal with Fuse Music Network and Koch Records.

His debut album, tentatively titled "The True Idol," is scheduled for release April 6, it was announced Monday. It will contain "She Bangs," along with another Martin hit, "Shake Your Bon Bon," and a cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man," which Hung sang recently on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

And for those of you hankering for more Hung, the disc will include a 40-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage from his studio recording sessions and fan questions and answers.

"He may not be the next American Idol, but he is definitely a star and inspiration to everyone who sings in the shower," said Marc Juris, president of Fuse, which will exclusively air his "She Bangs" video.

Koch Records general manager Alan Grunblatt was even more effusive: "He is the new Elvis!"

Hung, a 21-year-old Hong Kong native and civil engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley, has inspired fan clubs and Web sites that sing his praises.

The NEW Elvis?

LOL ohh man...thats awful!!
You know people are only going to buy this album to make fun of him...and the record company is capitalizing on BAD talent (or NO talent) now??

its still really funny though!!

William Hung is interesting and has had his 30 minutes of fame by now, but will anyone buy his CD? It's a novel idea and they can do miracles in a recording studio with someone's voice, but what if you buy this, listen to it--if you can listen to the whole thing in one setting--and then :hammer: yourself for plunking down $15-20 for a CD that you really don't care to listen to again. I think they would have done better to have released a CD single, but I'm not in the recording business either.

Dont. Tempt. Me.

I just found out this morning, after trying to watch the morning news, that DishNetwork is not carrying the Viacom (MTV, Comedy Central, and a few others) because of a disupute. so even when I get the DVR back, I can't watch my jon stwert and the daily show.

*looking for sledghammer*

as for the Clay and Ruben debate, I was much more of a Ruben fan. and don't forget, he was a bit of an underdog too, with his weight, and the images the judges were looking for. I though Ruben had a great performance every single week, and always came out with a great attitute. Clay, I agree, is a great singer, but sometimes had a bad time picking good songs for his voice. he too was the underdog, and also a graceous person, so I found the match to be a good one in the finals. And i think it helped Ruben that his voicewas nothing like Kelly Clarksons, he had a bit of R&B in it, it set him apart from everyone else

and here is a shocker, I thought that Kimberly Locke was a better singer in some weeks than Clay. I still think she should have gotten more support then she did during the competition

but that was then, and this is now. and I see the girls running the table on this one.

and I will give one vote to Katie Webber, if you give one vote to Jennifer Hudson. We gotta put the disney gal through!

I think you are thinking of the other Kimberly. Locke was the 3rd place person. :)

and if you are talking about the other kimberly, she was kinda trashy.

Kimberly Locke really turned it on in the competition last year when she sung "New York Minute" by Billy Joel (I think that was the name). She stunned me with her rendition which left me speechless. She could have easily won.

EDIT: New York Minute? I am such an idiot.....it was New York State of Mind....I think.

spongescott, I agree, that was a great performance!

how about tonights cast? I felt so bad for the 4 people who didn't even get to perform, I though that was kinda silly.

but jon the pen salesman was great, he really turned it up on the dancing! I think he will be in. Jennifer also had a great night, though her dress....definatly needs wardrobe to help.

tomorrow night should be a good show!

Well, we didn't know the show was 90 minutes tonight and we taped it, so we lost the last two performers. I liked Katie, Jon, and Susie Valuca. Can't comment on the last two.

I loved jon last night! i never knew he had it in him! simon is WAY too hard on him! but i'm glad randy and paula took up for him.

CAUTION: possible spoiler (if you haven't seen tonight's episode)

YAY! :sohappy: Maybe my votes DID pay off! I really wasn't expecting Jon to get through, but, for those of you who have seen the show already, he was the peoples' choice! I was just as shocked as he was! But I was so glad he made it...if he keeps up with the kind of performances he did last night, i think he'll add a little comic relief to the show (well, other than Ryan's comic relief). i'm not sure how far jon can go, but i hope he can stick around for awhile!

I am quite happy with tonights turn out, the4 moving on really do deserve it, they all had great perfomances. George is growing on me, his voice is getting better as the performances go on. and Jon Peter had a great showing, he pulled out all of the stops to get in the top 12. Jennifer is going to grow too with some coaching, and Leiah is pretty good too. Cheers to a good top 12, and some good singing!
