Well, the finals have begun and here is how I ranked all 12 of them tonight:

1. Latoya (is this all just a race for 2nd place?)
2. Fantasia (she was good, but I still don't like her)
3. George (best he's done yet)
4. Diana
5. Jennifer
6. Jasmine
7. Matt
8. Amy (very disappointing)
9. Jon Peter (lose the dancing schtick)
10. John
11. Camille
12. Leah (Simon was right)

Unbelievable. The talent tonight was AMAZING. There were only a couple of performances I didn't like, and a couple more that were a little disappointing. Overall, I was floored! GREAT job tonight! :sohappy: :king:

This is the best 12 IMO. It is also going to be so interesting for the next 12 weeks.
Here's my thoughts and ranking on tonite:
1. Latoya-most polished performer; but maybe not strongest vocally of the 12
2. Fantasia-she owned her song and has the uniqueness
3. George-my hometown boy came through; reminds me of Gomer Pyle
4. Jennifer-perhaps the strongest vocally; but I lost her vocals a couple of times on the mike
5. Jasmine-powerful voice at 17
6. Diana-has alot of potential
7. Matt
8. Jon Peter
9. Amy-she has nice voice; but has hard time keeping in tune; goes to high; if they can work with her, she'll be around for a while
10, 11, 12, The bottom three all have no chance of making the final four.
Who'll get the boot? John (with the beautiful red hair)

Jasmine, Diana and George are my top picks for tonight. I chose them for being at the top of their game when it was needed the most. I kinda hope George could pull it out cuz he looks like he could use a break in life. What a nice kid!

The tone quality of Fantasia's voice is worse than dragging your fingernails on a blackboard. Anyone but her, please!

LaToya was good tonight but not her best performance and, for me, I've heard similar voices over and over throughout the Motown years. She'll probably win though.

Leah, eye candy, really blew it big time, didn't she?

John Stevens is a terrific crooner but won't cut it as an American Idol, even if he deserves it.

Jon Peter looks like a white guy trying too hard to be cool. Mr. Clumsy.

Camille looked scared tonight and the song died out of the gate.

Amy...the vocals weren't strong enuf tonight. Oy, the hair.

The others were unremarkable.

Especially since; where he was raised, he has emerged with class and dignity. He really reminds me of Gomer Pyle; and you don't see that often in someone from the 'hood', and that is refreshing in itself, considering I just finished reading the interview with 50cent in Don's Playboy (:hurl: )

Impressive. The first and last performers were the best and George was up there as well. Could be an interesting battle for the 'IDOL'.

I thought Simon was right about the 'over-singing' and that is why the next to last girl (Hawaiian I think with the flower in her hair) and even the Sinatra guy did well. They just sang there song and did not over sing it.

That's my problem with him--he's known as Sinatra, or The Crooner. When is this guy gonna break out of his shell and show us something different? It's the same thing from this guy everytime he sings. I won't be as harsh as Randy, but he's boring. Same thing goes for Fantasia--what is she gonna do when the musical genre changes? Show me something different instead of being like fingernails on a blackboard...

WOW! I was seriously surprised by the quality (and quantity) of the talent last night! :sohappy:

The true talent will emerge when the styles change up each week.

On the other hand, they really should drop the bottom 6 and let the others go at it longer.

My favorites below:

1. LaToya - nice show, talented!
2. Fantasia - got the Motown thing down, very polished!
3. Jasmine - my favorite to win!
4. Jennifer - I still like her. Let's hear a ballad.
5. Diana - a little shaky, but nice effort! Dress nicer!
6. George - not a fan, but nailed His tune last night for the first time!

Didn't care for, but willing to give ONE MORE CHANCE (and ONLY ONE!):

7. Amy - pick a song in your range - the better girls make her sound bad
8. John - UGH...not an Idol, but talented and from here.
9. Jon Peter - somewhere two castles are missing a hobbit...I can't figure out how he was America's pick, so I'll give him one more chance to try and entertain us.

And, finally....who are we kidding here? They made it through by accident:

10. Leah - Weak. Looked and sounded bad.
11. Camille - How many packs of smokes did she have before her performance? Sounded bad. No personality.
12. Matt - is this a joke? I assume they feared not having enough guys, so put him through. Not talented. Go back to the Rose Bowl.
---------------------------------
MY RANT: What is it with these contestants coming out there looking like slobs?? With a full wardrobe and a private clothing consultant, they show up in jeans and t-shirts??? Time to show a little class!

Top o' the mornin' to everyone!

you and I are on the same page. The bottom three I completely agree with, and I am so NOT impressed with Matt. I liked Camille in earlier performances, but she has gotta find her niche.

I think that George, Jennifer, Fantasisa, and LaToya should start their own group. they would seriously kick some booty.

And By far, this top 12 is the best yet. The competition towards round 6 and 7 is going to be TOUGH and heartbreaking.

I just wanted to add that last night's 2 hour show was 1 hour too long. They're milking the sponsors for all their worth and it was becoming a serious drag.

Tonight's show is 1 hour....1 hour to eliminate 1 person?

yeah, I watched it back on tivo, and it took me 50 minutes to watch the two hour show. and last night, it took 30 minutes to watch the hour long show. it would have taken me less time, but mom called in the middle of watching.

so everyone agree that the right person got kicked off the island last night? (uh oh....I am mixing my shows again...) Leah was definatly the weak one of the group, but I didn't think that Jennifer deserved to be in the BOTTOM two. yikes. I better vote for her a lot more next time!

I agree that Leah was the right choice and I was shocked to see Jennifer in the bottom two. I wasn't surprised by Amy being in the bottom three. What I thought was really tough and unfair was asking Leah and Jennifer to sing. Their emotions were on edge enough; I'm surprised they were able to get through their songs. Jennifer has wonderful vocal ability, so it must be something else that does not endear herself to America--any clues?

My favorites below:

1. LaToya - nice show, talented!
(I agree - Very very good)
2. Fantasia - got the Motown thing down, very polished!
(I would put her lower, very nasal sound to voice, like fingernails on a chalkboard)
3. Jasmine - my favorite to win!
(Really sang. Did not overing at all - Very Good)
4. Jennifer - I still like her. Let's hear a ballad.
(Over sang but still did a good job)
5. Diana - a little shaky, but nice effort! Dress nicer!
(Suprised me, did a very good job)
6. George - not a fan, but nailed His tune last night for the first time!
(The best Male voice in the competition)

Didn't care for, but willing to give ONE MORE CHANCE (and ONLY ONE!):

7. Amy - pick a song in your range - the better girls make her sound bad (well said, not up to par witht the others)
8. John - UGH...not an Idol, but talented and from here.
(Will be interesting to hear how he does from here on out)
9. Jon Peter - somewhere two castles are missing a hobbit...
(He shows signs of having a real nice voice, but it cuts in and out. A dark Horse? I don't think so)
And, finally....who are we kidding here? They made it through by accident:

10. Leah - Weak. Looked and sounded bad.
(Out of here. Too bad.)
11. Camille - How many packs of smokes did she have before her performance? Sounded bad. No personality.
(I would not have her this low, she had some difficulty but is capable of better)
12. Matt - is this a joke? Not talented.
(Most likely the next to go if America voted with their heads.)

MY RANT: Is it me or is Simon pretty much right about everyone and their performance this year?

I was wondering the same thing, perhaps because america already has their favorites? LaToya and Jon Peter have a following already, and george has won the heart of many motown lovers.

maybe if she has some great song selection, she will find her fans. I know I am one!

I agree with y'all. Leah deserved to go.

Amy's performance the other night was weak, real weak. It was a toss-up for me whether she or Leah should be the first to be eliminated.

I don't know what's causing Jennifer's unpopularity except that she's weird looking. There are times she has a 'crazed' look. I think she has a better voice than Fantasia, but Fantasia is a character. And America likes a character.

I fell asleep last night and missed the entire show.

Tramp (rick, right?) you are having WAY to much fun with those icons!

and yeah, I guess Jennifer does have some interesting facial expressions. I could see how that might affect some of the voting.

TIVO RULES! :sohappy:

Watched the 2-hour show in 45 minutes, and last nights show in 15!!!

I was satisfied with the outcome. Looking forward to next week already!

I just wanted to add this interesting bit of trivia......

I believe Jennifer was a Disney Cruise Line Cast Member and performed until recently in the stage shows on the Disney ships. I think I recognized her from my cruise last summer.

There! The Disney connection is "OFFICIAL"!!

WHEW!

P.S. NICE ICONS TRAMP!

your trivia is right on, they mentioned it in one of the very early interviews with her that she worked on a crusie line, though it was never said exactly what she did. that would be so cool if she was on your ship! (ps, which one was it?)
