Exactly what the title says. If you're unfamiliar with ETX, it's a joint venture between IMAX and AMC and uses the new Sony Digital Ultra HD projectors, 11.1 surround installed by Klipsch Professional, and around 115,000 watts of sound.

Now playing in theater #1.

WHAT'S with all the hate? From what I'm told, this is a joint venture between IMAX and AMC as an improvement to the original IMAX. Instead of being on 70mm reels, it's now digital and offer higher resolution than tHe original IMAX.

It's ok.
Better than a typical movie experience, but not anywhere near a true Imax. Tickets cost a bit more than normal movies.
Saw Avatar in the Imax-lite here. Looked great, sounded great....but wasn't a fully Imax experience.
(Last full Imax I saw was U2:3D at the Museum in Ft. Lauderdale. Reeked of awesome.)

This is a real Imax theatre. AMC hasn't got this.

IMAX makes no differentiation between their digital theater retrofits and the specialty, large format screen experience that most associate with "IMAX".

Lame.

We have somthing similar at our local theater. Basically Imax squeezed into an old regular theater. Better than a typical movie experience, but definately not a true Imax experience.

Keep in mind this is theater #1, which as-is is bigger than most IMAX screens I've visited, including idrive here in otown and marbles in Raleigh NC.

IMAX on the cheap. So much for the best of everything. What next? THX using bell wire?

Sad thing is that this 'upgrade' is barely noticable still..

DTD AMC 24 is a dump... The old theaters that haven't been upgraded to stadium seating have poor seating, most seats are broken, and they are all dingy..... Better seats at your local adult bookstore preview rooms

I love that theater so much. Watching a movie there is such a great experience. 5 story screens just cannot be beat.

I go to IMAX lite all the time! I love the pic, sound, and experience. Yeah it isn't 20 miles tall anymore. I never saw a movie on one of those screens that didn't put me to sleep anyway. IMAX has evolved as a company and a concept. Get over it.

Except they show real movies on those screens now. And seeing one of them on one of the real screens is spectacular.

Is this one actually being marketed as IMAX, too? Lame.

To the average Joe, IMAX means a gigantic, 5-story or bigger screen. They are totally eroding their brand name, and is probably going to cause them some financial trouble down the line when the average movie-goer doesn't find the LieMAX worth the extra money over the quality digital projectors and sound system in the rest of the multiplex... especially as more and more films become 3-D, which I don't believe these current LieMAX screens can do.

please be aware of the facts. This is the next generation of IMAX.

The current movie playig on this screen is Avatar 3d.It's a digital projector fully capable and built around 3d operation. I ask that you please check facts and research before posting.

The sound and picture quality are superior to the old analog IMAX projections anD sound systems. And if you've been to theater 1 at dtd, you know it's massive. 3 levels, 4 stories tall. They've installed a new floor to ceiling screen too. Also the new use of 11.1 surround is superior to the old IMAX 5.1 and 7.1 theaters. This new sound system also has much cleaner lows and highs than before.

I'm not trying to put down your post, but people read things here and run with them. I'm stating the facts as they exist.

This new screen is bigger than traditional large-format screens such as at Pointe Orlando, Kennedy Space Center, and Channelside in Tampa? Really?

I get that the projector and sound system might be better, I just think it's wrong that they market it as IMAX when they know that people expect a screen of a certain size, and it's not. I used to see movies in Theater One there all the time, and it doesn't seem like it is or could even be modified to be as big as the IMAX screen at Pointe Orlando (which I know for a fact is the largest IMAX screen in Florida, at least as of about May 2009).
