Think for yourselfer
I might be the only person to think this way, but I do not like true Imax theaters. The screen is just too big. Its not possible for me to take in everything on a screen that size. I think I may actually prefer a screen somewhere between the Imax lite, and the true Imax as it is now.

Agreed! Imax 3D is nice but you tend to miss details at the edge of your vision. Plus you have to actually move your head to see everything. I prefer having the image entirely within my field of view. I haven't seen this particular version of digital HD Imax, but I'd bet it's great.

This could be a really stupid question, but considering the widescreen shape of almost every film, how does increasing the vertical size of the movie screen equate to a larger movie picture? Shouldn't the screen have to be expanded horizontally to result in a bigger movie? They emphasize that the screen is floor to ceiling now, but that shouldn't make a lick of difference if the screen isn't any wider, too, right?

Which is actually part of the point of IMAX. Those giant screens are supposed to be too big to see everything because that is part of the greater illusion of reality. Feature films are not yet shot with this in mind. The entire screen is deliberately chosen to be seen by the viewer.

It will vary from film to film, but this is what I have been thinking. There is no point to a taller screen if the film is not going to be using this space.

The only time I ever actually had a problem with watching a movie in an IMAX theater was when we saw "Say the Earth Stood Still". Even though we were 1/3 of the way back in the theater, the subtitles that came up to say where the scene was taking place were WAAAAYYY too wide. Literally had to turn my head left and right to read each line, and the title often wasn't on the screen long enough to read the full text.
