Amazingly dumb and sometimes funny things other guests say...

These are all pretty funny. However, I have to stop and think about each one before I decide, for myself, whether to pass judgement on the person being quoted or not.

Confusing some of those animated movies with Disney films really isn't that bad. Sure, it is to us die-hard fans, but many studios are trying to mimic Disney's animation style, so it's hard to tell the difference. I have, in fact, mistaken Disney films for others, and vice versa.

Then others, like the TTA vs. Monorail confusion - I just think about the people I've taken on my trips who had never been there before. They hear me using acronyms and abbreviations, and get confused because they're on Disney overload. So, I read these stories and think, "Many of these people probably are just going through what I would go through if I went to somewhere like Universal for the first time ever, after being brainwashed with WDW - I'd use WDW terms when I should be using Universal terms, etc, etc".

Then there are the pure idiots who argue with a Japanese girl about which World Showcase country they're in. That's just pure ignorance....and I laugh!

I agree 100%. It seems that every month or so, someone starts a new "stupid things guests say at Disney" thread. Generally speaking, its essentially the same types of comments in every thread. Things such as guests getting the names of attractions wrong, getting the names of theme parks wrong, asking where they can find this or that Universal attraction while in Epcot, etc. And it's true, these comments are humorous to those of us who live, eat and breathe Disney. But sometimes these otherwise humorous stories that are posted here are followed by comments such as, "I just wanted to strangle her.", or "I wanted to tell the guest how stupid he was.", and I find that a little unsettling. Are people who don't know Disney as well as we do somehow less entitled to simply enjoy it? Also consider this, if so many mistakes are being made consistently about names or attractions, etc., then we really have to look at the common denominator: Maybe it's not so much a case of a guest being "stupid", but rather maybe Disney has done a poor job of communicating the accurate information.

Just food for thought, and no offense intended toward anyone. :animwink:

A few years ago, my family and I went on the Royal Carribbean's "Sovereign Of The Seas" cruise ship to the Bahamas (5 day cruise) and the last night at sea on the way back to Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, FL), all the passengers gathered in the main auditorium on the boat for the cruise director's "Top 10 list" and other things, but the Top 10 list was good. The Top 10 list (based on what I can remember now) was "Top 10 clueless questions guests asked me while on this trip."

The two good ones I remember are:

  • What time is the midnight buffet?
  • Do these stairs go up?

Classic! :)

I've been on 9 cruises and this top ten list was told on every one of them. I think it's become a little like the Jungle Cruise spiel or something. One of my favorites from the list is, "What do you do with the ice sculptures when you're done with them?"

And here's a funny one my friend told me: A guest came to the MK turnstiles and asked the person at the turnstile "How do I get to the Magic Kingdom?" without missing a beat, he told her "Now what you're going to do, is take that large ferry over to the Transportation and Ticket Center. When you get there, you're going to take the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom and you'll be there."

Needless to say...the guests listened to him...

If this is really a true story, that was a very mean thing your friend did. Regardless of how "stupid" the guest was, obviously she was seriously lost. If your friend is a CM, I don't think that was a very "magical" way to behave. Unfortunately, that seems to be the caliber of the type of CMs that WDW is employing nowadays. So I can't say I'm entirely shocked. I actually feel kind of bad for the guest.

There are thousands of stories of 'tards at Disney. More Mouse Tales has some classic ones...

Sorry if I seem to be on a bit of a "rant" tonight as I respond to all these posts. However this one I would like to address if I may. Your use of the term "'tards" is a bit offensive. It's obvious that you are using a term that is supposed to be short for "retards" and that word strikes a strong emotional reaction from me (for personal reasons). Could I respectfully ask that you refrain from using that term in future posts? :)

Merlin, no one is trying to ________ anyone off - take deep breaths and let it go. It's a non-issue, don't make it into one.

So me being the little swine that I am added "Well your missing out on one of the best attractions in WDW, Phillharmagic" another couple quickly agreed, however the woman simply turned to me and said "Oh yeah we have that, and we had it first, ours is much better".

I wonder if maybe she meant "Fantasmic". I've heard people get the names of those two attractions mixed up. The description would certainly make sense: Disneyland did get Fantasmic first....and it is substantially better! :animwink:

I didn't say anyone was trying to upset anyone else. I'm sure the person who wrote the post intended no harm. And this is not about need to "take deep breaths". I have a family member who is mentally challenged and we heard that word a lot growing up. Forgive me if I get a little emotional when I read (or hear) someone using it. I didn't ask for an apology from the person (again, I'm making the assumption it was not meant in a vindictive way). I'm simply asking the person to please refrain from using the term in future posts.

Well, if she was the grand-puhbah of all things Disneyland i'd hope she'd know exactly what Fantasmic was.

Where in the post did it mention that she claimed to be the "grand-puhbah of all things Disneyland"?

Well, if you're gonna claim it has everything and everything is better - i'm assuming you're some sorta grand puhbah. Otherwise you shouldn't be making such remarks ;)

So she has to be an absolute authority on Disneyland in order to express her belief that it's the best? Sorry, but that seems like a bit of a stretch. I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree on that one. :animwink:

I think what he was trying to say is that the woman was being very closed minded to WDW. She assumed that everything was better at DL and, regardless of the attraction that was mentioned, she thinks it's better at DL. Now most attractions that are at DL and WDW are better at DL (in my opinion - but I still love them in WDW and will try it all), so she has a point, but I think he's saying that she had an "I'm better than you 'cause I'm from Disneyland" attitude.

Anyway, on with my guest story.
My family and I were entering The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Managment and a guy pushed by us coming out of the entrance to the preshow. He started telling us and others that, "...this thing is stupid! All you do is stand there and look at talking birds!" I turned to him and said, "No, that's not the attraction, it's just the preshow. You get to go inside for a show!" He just turned to me and gave a little "whatever" kind-of wave of his hand and kept walking away telling people not to go in.

Phillharmagic

Well we did mention that its one of the best 3D Shows we had ever seen so, unless she's got limited sight, or Fantasmic in California hand out 3D Glasses before its starts, i think she was a bit loopy.

LOL I love Fastpass, its hours of entertainment. We were getting our RNRC fast passes and a family was like at the machines beside us, and after they got theirs, immediately walked into the fast pass line, and when the CM stopped them and explained about the time, they were so confused. They were like "but don't these get us to the front of the line?" I was cracking up.

I also overheard getting in line for SSE, someone call it "the Space Ship Ball" I was like its my first time at Epcot but even I know the name, LOL.

I would respectfully suggest that the show at Enchanted Tiki Birds consists of sitting and watching talking birds.

(but I love it anyway...)

Some English lady was saying how the Partners statue had Mickey and "that Disney fellow".

Me: You mean Walt?

Her: No, that's not him. That is his father.
