Am I the only one who likes the current version of Journey into Imagination?

I wouldn't say that I hate the current show but, you have to believe me, what the original gave you was a feeling of actually being in another world. It seemed to float from scene to scene not attached to anything other then what you are imagining. If the original introduction with the Dreamfinder and Figment didn't leave you with your jaw dropped in wonder of how they made that work, then you might have to be considered brain dead. The feel of the current one is that you are riding through a warehouse with a bunch of props and mini shows that do very little to stimulate your senses or thoughts. The "skunk" smell doesn't offend me but it also strikes me as a middle school, bathroom humor joke. A dumbing down of the greatness of the original that didn't rely on pre-adolescent humor to entertain.

One of the biggest mistakes that Disney ever made was tossing out that attraction. I don't care if Kodak thought it should change, they made film not theme park attractions. Now they can't even make it into the world of current technology, that's how far they were looking into the future.

The current JIYI with Figment is a decent ride. It's got some humor, some nice visuals, and Eric Idle and Figment in it. My kids enjoy it very much.

However, it is only a shadow of the original, which was longer, had far more visual and audio elements, a better story, a more successful idea on how to talk about imagination, more entertainment, and a more thought-provoking message. It was better on all levels. Plus, it came with an imageworks on the second floor of the building that was a place you could actually play around in for quite a long time, instead of a dumb little area of computer monitors and a gift shop.

So, when people around here express their dislike for JIYI, a big part of it is that we know what it once was.

I still dream about the white room. Remember how the ride vehicle slowed so you felt like you were floating? It's how I imagine heaven will be.
I suppose technically that was the magic of perception because the original attraction was like Haunted Mansion or Spaceship Earth in that the vehicles were one long train (so they didn't actually slow just for one room else the entire train would've). But... an awesome example of what made the original so great. The way everything was made/designed/built/imagined just was so wonderful.

I don't remember the original one being like HM or SSE (with the continuous loading) I remember them being short little trains like today.. only they were blue and did not stop in any of the rooms... I could be wrong though (it happens more than I care to admit haha) but I think they would have to have been smaller trains because of the first scene with The Dreamfinder (when the cars turned sideways to watch him and Figment)

But I digress.... Back to the orignal questions. I enjoy this version and we always ride it at least once. It is FAR superior to what came before it in Version 2.0. That was horrendous. The first time I rode that, I was a junior in high school and literally got off it and cried because of what they had done to it. This version is better but nothing will match the original.

Y'know what... you're right. They didn't stop so my brain was remembering it as one big train. Which I was stupid to think because duh they wouldn't have been able to get on and off the carousel for dreamfinder!

I have only seen the youtubes of both versions of this ride but when I see the one about the original ride it makes me actually Want to take an airline trip and go and see Epcot and that ride. The current one looks OK, but I could just get in the car and see the Ghostwood Estate here at Kennywood. That is, the current Imagination would be good if it were at a local amusement park but the original looks like it would be worth a trip to Orlando. And what is it with Disney and bad odors? Don't we get enough stink in the "real world"?

No, we love it but I do believe we are in the minority as the ride is almost always empty.
Imagination has a very high hourly capacity. Eeven if it would be popular, which it isn't, it would still move huge crowds without much of a wait.

The disdain for Imagination is usually meant relative instead of absolute. That is, relative to Imagination 1.0 the current incarnation stinks (and also literally), whereas absolutely it is an okay C-ticket.

A McCrab prawn cocktail with a defrosted indutrial sauce is okay. It stinks compared to classic French cuisine on a paddlewheel steamboat with a live jazz trio.

I can actually take or leave the ride as it currently is (though it's original was physically better) but it's the Imageworks that is where the attraction really falls short. I mean REALLY falls short.

Personally I don't like the ride and I heard someone saying they liked it on a podcast called Enchanted Tiki Talk. He said he likes it because its the only thing in Disney that has imagination in it plus figment.

As someone who is obviously a Figment fan... (Taking into consideration he was the parks mascot until Duffy the Bear 'took over', I own quite a bit of Figment merch.. which my parents thought strange cause back in the day, Imagination was considered the most Kiddy right in Epcot. Horizons and World of Motion really wasn't all that entertaining.. but 'I' loved them as a kid)

...I don't mind the current version of JII. Yes, the original is superior in every way, but like someone mentioned above.. I'm also a huge Python fan, especially Eric Idle. Now when you take two things I enjoy, Eric Idle and Figment, and put them together, I can look past the mediocre ride in most aspects.

Again, the original is WAY better, but I don't mind the current one.

I don't hate the current version. I ride it on each trip because there is no line. If I ever had to wait for it, I wouldn't ride it.

That whole pavilion is such a faint shadow of what it used to be. I still have a picture of 11 year old me in the Rainbow Tunnel.

This pavilion basically sucks. It should be given the Horizons treatment. As a child I spent many a fun time in there, but now it's just depressing.
