Am I the only one that dislikes BTM?

The OP said that Utah's landscape was a terrible choice in theme. I was arguing that point by saying that Utah's landscape is phenomenal and an excellent choice of theme.

The OP stated that the ride itself has bad theming. Nowhere in this thread did he state that "Utah's landscape was a terrible choice in theme". I have no idea where you got that. Even in your post where you're replying to his quote, he isn't stating that in the quote that you used. :veryconfu

The only mine train I've ridden that I've actually liked more than BTMRR is the "Thunderation" mine train ride at Silver Dollar City. It has some themeing (not as good at Disney of course), but a hell of a thrilling layout and uses the natural setting with the hills and trees. Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul6kRviSG2o

That being said, I still love BTMRR. Its unquestionably one of the best themed coasters ever. And it was my first roller coaster.

Thunderation is one of the better mine train coasters definitely. And I agree about the landscaping, although I wouldn't consider use of the natural landscape to be the equivalent of "theming" since theming is something that is reproduced to look like something either in fantasy or real life. Simply using the existing landscape doesn't really qualify IMO (though I do agree it enhances the experience greatly).

I have rode this before and found it more fun and thrilling than BTMR and there actually is some themeing that I remember. It was a fun roller coaster. Sorry BTMR fans.
The theming of that ride is horrible, I give it an F. There is no real theme. It is just lets make something that looks like a mine car go through a barn and through some pine trees on an unthrilling ride. It is terrible compared to BTMRR.

It is one of the best rides on the property. It may not be much of a thrill, but the theming is absolutely fantastic.

Riding it before twlight will let you see all the nice details and at night things feel more thrilling. That is a fantastic excuse to ride BTMRR at least twice on every MK visit. :D

OP said (direct quote complete with spelling & grammatical errors :lookaroun) "I just don't like the themeing of that ride".

The ride is themed to Utah's landscape. Therefore I put 2 and 2 together and concluded that he did not like the Utah theme.

But arguing semantics is boring so I'll leave it at that. :dazzle:

I really find that ride terrible. Unlike their other themes, I just don't like the themeing of that ride, its never stuck with me.

Am I the only one? In my family I am, can't stand that ride, its the only one out of WDW/DLR that I truly don't enjoy.

Well you might be the only one who I have heard say that. Now, an extreme roller coaster nut (and I mean "nut" in a good way) might be disapointed but they wouldn't be in MK in the first place for that reason.

Besides there is some nice turns and is easily classified as a roller coaster for sure. Maybe not anything extreme, but a roller coaster for sure.

Not sure why you don't like it. The theming is great, the queue is great etc.

No offense, but I think you "put 2 and 2 together" and got 5. In other words, I think you read way too much into what the OP likely meant. Of course, I don't know the OP and can't read his mind, so I could be mistaken as well. But it seems highly unlikely that he was saying that "Utah's landscape was a terrible choice" as you interpreted him to be saying. Most people aren't even aware that BTMR is inspired by Utah's landscape.

I've ridden it too. If you found it "more fun and thrilling than BTMR" than I dont' think this is the ride you're thinking of. It's pretty tame, more like a kiddie coaster. Also, the only "theming" is the occasional railroad tie, a barn-like load station, and a point in the ride where you go through a tunnel. I wouldn't exactly say it gives BTMR a run for it's money (either on theming OR on excitment).

Here is the mine train coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Gosh, it's just uncanny how these Six Flags mine train coasters are so IDENTICAL to BTMR! :hammer:

Yea, it is the ride I went on seeing as I've never been anywhere besides Florida and Georgia. Sorry to disappoint.

And BTMR is very tame too.

I seem to remember having a pretty good time and got that mine train vibe that I wasn't really expecting at a crappy Six Flags park.

And I never said it gave BTMR a run for its money in theme.

It's basically a kiddie ride. But hey, if you find that "more fun and thrilling than BTMR", and you consider plain track and chainlink fences "theming", then more power to ya!

If I recall correctly there are TWO Dahlonega Mine trains at SFoG. One was truly a kiddie ride - the other a full fledged coaster. The youtube was of the full deal.

As far as it being tame...I would say not in the least as it jerks you around quite well and I always came out quite shaken.

The one at Georgia is very suprisingly well done- I believe Unkadug is reffering to Georgia's too. I'd ride it before you judge me for liking it. And If that track is plain then so is BTMRR's.

For me, Big Thunder is one of my favorites. I think the ride is great. I enjoy riding it a number of times every trip. It becomes even better once the sun goes down, IMO.

I love BTMRR! I've always enjoyed that ride, even as a kid. I prefer riding this at night, because it feels like a different ride. Every time DH and I ride it, there's always a child who's never ridden it, and after they ride it--they always say, "Let's go again, Mom/Dad!"

I think BTM is one of Disney's most perfect rides. It's got enough thrills to satisfy coaster enthusiasts yet it's tame enough that I took my three year old on it. The theming is great, and it's just an all around excellent ride. There's somehting about going up the big hill and being able to look out at the animals or town and then out to the rest of MK that I really enjoy.
