Alligator Roams MK Parking Lot

When my DH and I were at the Poly about 3 years ago we were on the beach watching Wishes from across the Bay. Some people were letting their children play in water of Bay Lake with a sign clearing stating not to swim. There was a gator right at the edge with his head sticking up watching the children. The parents were oblivious until someone point out the gator to them.

It's Florida. I would assume any body of water could have some reptiles in it.

That's why I posted this picture - there's no body of water. It was on a sidewalk that is traversed by countless guests throughout the day, not some obscure swamp path.

Im sorry but that is really scary seeing how a lot of areas in disney at night are quiet and near water... My hotel room at the all star sports was the last room in the corner in the back. So your telling me that i could have wandered into a GATOR????

In Florida, if there is a body of water, assume that there is an alligator in it.

Guys, you're all assuming the worst by saying the poor thing was looking for Captain Hook or meandering around the villains area of the parking lot. He was clearly just looking to get into the park so that he could play some sweet zipper mouth blues for the guests. Is that too much for a gator to ask?

One of my top complaints about living in Wellington. Couldn't swim in lakes, jet skiing the intracoastal was hard to get ballsy without wiping out, and fishing Okechobee those fools would get your fish! In Va I am used to being about to do whatever in river. Florida was a culture shock just for that.

not really 'news worthy' I'm afraid.. I live about a mile from Magic Kingdom, and I see gators in the pond by my house on a daily basis during the warmer months..... A lot of people don't realize how much we are 'in the swamp' in this area.. :)

This reminds me of the people who go crazy when they see a shark at the beach in Florida. Guess what they're there all of the time, you just don't see them.

It is interesting though that the gator in question appears to be making his way down the sidewalk in the middle of the parking lot. If I'm not mistaken, thats right near the tram underpass. I would've thought he would have been spotted and given a lift back to a pond before he made it to that point.

You're correct, and my thoughts exactly.

there's a gator in the little canal that has the walking bridge over it across from the Poly. I see it all the time in the early morning

Sorry for the delay, here's the gator referred to in the OP:

This was taken with a phone so the quality isn't great. I suppose it could have just as well been a komodo dragon...

LOL its just a small one...

For those of you not from Florida here is a bit of info... if you have a lake, river, even a ditch with water in it... ASSUME there is a gator (small like this one pictured all the way up to 15+ feet)... this is Florida and we coexist with them.

As long as people are not morons by feeding them, they tend to be (for the most part) very happy to see you walk away as they do not like to tangle with you (they think YOU are dangerous predator!).... BUT if morons feed the gator then it loses this fear and approaches you looking for a handout (which you oppose at your own peril).....

Leave them Alone and they almost always leave you alone.....

Yes, I had the same thoughts. Very odd.

Was he missing a leg? My grandson claimed he saw an alligator when we were waiting for the boat to TSI back at easter of this year. He kept saying his leg was gone!

not in the sand hills in clermont, apopka, mt dora...

There are absolutely gators in the lakes around those towns. I've seen them in Lake Apopka, Lake Dora, Lake Harris...and there was the one dead fellow on the side of Hwy 27 who didn't quite make it across.

Sandhills or not, if you're in Florida, there's a good chance there are alligators close by.

Like others have said, they're only a nuisance when people (i.e. stupid people) feed them and they begin to associate food with humans (i.e. the stupid people) who have fed them.

Yes, there is a 3-legged gator that swims around TSI. There has been pics and videos of him posted on these forums in the past, although I can't remember what thread. Someone had reported that it hangs out around the smoking area across from TSI, and when we were there last Dec. sure enough it was there! We also saw one sunning himself on TSI on another day, but couldn't tell if it was the same one or a different one.
