Welcome to the forums!

So on that note.... what's your favorite Disneyland ride and why?
Pirates Of The Caribbean. It is the complete ride, from the ride through the swamp at the beginning, through the drops and then all the wonderful animatronics throughout, along with the classic soundtrack. I do wish they hadn't put the Jack Sparrow additions in, they are stupid and unnecessary, but Disney is all about tying in to current films, so it wasn't a big surprise. Hopefully they get removed at some point, since he's not likely to be involved in any future films in the series.

I honestly hope you didn’t join just to talk politics. We’re trying to get past that, even though some can’t seem to stop. Also, you joined just to ignore people?

Are you planning to visit USH or the DLR anytime soon?
Yes, I purchased an AP for USH, and will be buying one for Knotts. Haven't been to either park in years, so I'm looking forward to catching up on all the new rides I've yet to experience. I had a Flex Pass for Disneyland that had 2 1/2 months left on it. I decided that after visiting some 30 times on my Flex Pass for $600, it would be insane to spend $200 for a 1-Day Park Hopper. I'll wait and see what membership programs they eventually come out with, and if something meets my needs, I'll bite. I went 7 years in between Disney AP's, so I can wait it out. I do miss the parks, but I know that I'm going to feel ripped off if I go now paying full price, for fewer hours and much less entertainment like parades, shows, fireworks, etc.

Jeez, this thing is broken already? They’ve been officially open for 2 days. Bought tickets and everything for tomorrow solely for the reason of seeing this Indominus Rex and I’m already too late?

Freaking shame, man. I really hope they’re working on this bad boy tonight because I’ve been eyeing the wait times on the app all day and I am not spending 180 minutes in line for this thing to be tarp-d over.

So is this new Dino going to be Universal's Yeti?

The ride techs in charge of Jurassic World should have a pow wow with the ones at Rise Of The Resistance, to discuss what it's like when the ride the park has been hyping, starts to break down on a daily basis, right after it's grand opening.

All of these groundbreaking ride aspects would be wonderful, if they worked consistently. Otherwise, what use is there for a "game changer," when it's so unreliable, that you never know whether it will be working on the One Day that as a guest, you may be visiting the park.

I especially love how they can Hype, Hype, Hype an attraction, saying that you must visit the park to experience it yourself. But at the same time, saying that BTW, rides are subject to closure, so don't be too disappointed if the ride they've hyped as a "Must See," is not operable at any given time, on any given day.

From what I've heard, the ride Disney is planning on developing at DCA for Avengers Campus in a couple of years, is a headache waiting to happen. It's extremely ambitious and overly complex. Once they build it, they're stuck with it for the long haul, problems or not. I guess we'll see whether they can pull it off.

Good thing all the blogger fanatics got to publicize JW while it was working. I'm sure they'll downplay any problems, because in their world, everything is just peachy keen, and JW is the greatest attraction ever.

Yeeeah.. I’ll head in tomorrow and ask if it’s working first thing in the morning. If they say no, then I’ll hit up Guest Relations in hope of leaving the park and rescheduling our tickets for a different date.

I don’t want to ask for a refund because I want to see it but I can’t keep taking the gamble of “is the thing you’re advertising even gonna be working” with full priced, one day tickets (also, the drive up from San Diego). If it’s broken tomorrow, hopefully they’ll be understanding enough to reschedule us so we can leave and come back a different date. I’d like to think that’d be fair.

I wish I knew the internet forum names of the people I know in real life. You only find out how smart or incredibly dumb people are in places Iike this.

That sucks. I’m more concerned with the 4 hour wait though. No way I’m waiting that tomorrow. I guess it’s to be expected when there are like 6 rides at the park that are open. It kind of feels like this whole thing is a set up for people to upgrade to annual passes.

So I watched a ride thru of Jurassic World with my son. Not the whole thing but enough of it to realize they messed up the ride. The iconic music is gone. The build up is gone as they removed the one peaceful scene from the beginning. Apparently we get Chris Pratt on screens. Didn’t see that but don’t the like the idea. Then the finale is the worst offender of all. Just a confusing mess. Less was more with this one. The darkness, with the countdown and T-Rex coming out of nowhere was a million times better.

The original ride was fantastic, especially before they let the animatronics rot away.

Even then I'd much rather go on a half broken Jurassic Park River Adventure than "Jurassic World The Ride".

The story on that one is great and I love how they are trying to evacuate you. The tension at the ending is top notch. Love the idea of the animals breaking through this industrial facility where they shouldn't be.

Now it's just visiting Dinosaurs in their natural habitat as the finale.

Universal truly is a Disney competitor, they both make terrible rethemes/updates of great rides that never needed them in the first place.

Just got off Jurassic World. A nice CM let us go through the express lane. Not sure why. Maybe because she saw us with a bunch of kids. Wait is only 45 min right now. We waited 2 minutes. Ride is still fun but Jurassic Park was better. Indominus Rex is working.

Feels good to be on a moving ride vehicle again.
Have fun! I bet little mickeblu is so excited!

So I’d say Universal Studios was a success with one exception. We didn’t get on the studio tour but I upgraded us to annual passes and USH is 10 minutes away from me. My son had a blast and it was neat to see how much he’s matured over the last year.

I like how USH handled the Covid regulations today. Meaning they weren’t obnoxious about it. As long as we were wearing our masks when walking around we were fine. Stationary and seated and we were never bothered except one time even if weren’t actively eating or drinking. Part of this could be because their just wasn’t that many CMs. With that said, they are definitely more relaxed than the CMs at Downtown Disney.

Due to the low capacity there was a lot of space for the most part and it just felt very pleasant walking around the park. It was easy to walk in and out of shops, and restaurants and or grabbing a snack/ drink. No wait to do any of these things except a 5 minute wait at 3 Broomsticks for lunch.

People in line for Secret Life of Pets weren’t paying any attention to the 6 foot markers. Most people were right up on one another except for halfway though the queue where one CM was trying to regulate. To be honest, it was nice to see people get on with their lives. The interior queue for SLOP was not made for these Covidian times. Those small rooms in the queue fit one to two parties max.

I will say this, USH was SERIOUS about sanitizer. It smelled like sanitizer everywhere. Not the most pleasant scene either. They sprayed our hands before boarding every attraction. They had a guy at the bottom of the escalators just spraying the hand rails and wiping them down by just leaving his hand and towels in place and letting the escalator do the rest.

Heat wasn’t unbearable and the halo brand mask I have I think made thing more comfortable. It has this design that kind of gives you some breathing room between the mask and your face.

Some thoughts about the park and attractions:

Secret Life of Pets: This is something that USH definitely needed (only because they got rid of the quintessential USH dark ride - E.T.) and it’s a great addition to the park. Unfortunately, I think it’s a bit overrated. The queue is pleasant even if it feels like you re at IKEA. I liked all the AAs in the queue. The problem is by the time you get to the ride they’ve kind of showed their whole hand. Not quite sure what was going on during the first half of the ride but I also haven’t seen the movie. The second half made sense as we’re getting groomed to be adopted and there were some moments that stood out there. Overall the ride was cute but from here on out I would only ride if there was a child with me which I guess will usually be the case. I enjoy every single dark ride at at DLR more including Pooh, Monsters and Mermaid. Some of that is because of familiarity and the great music/ songs associated with said dark rides but SLOP is also very monotone. It’s just all bright and cheery and set in an apartment/ big city. Not my cup of tea necessarily but they did do the IP justice.

The ride vehicles are atrocious. Possibly the most uncomfortable ride vehicles I’ve ever sat in and I’m not a huge guy. Something about about my back/ butt just didn’t work with the design of those seats and why on earth those lap bars are so intense I’m not sure. Also why are they 2 seaters forcing all families to split up? Anyway, great addition for USH but not my cup of tea. Oddly enough I wish Disney would take this approach for one of their next IP based dark rides. Meaning smaller scale (not huge soccer fields for trackless vehicles to roam) more charm, more AA’s and less of a focus on screens.

Some more thoughts coming later...

Not only do I save money on the on USH annual passes compared to Disney passes but I save money on merch too because almost nothing there appeals to me. Except for 80’s / 90’s USH nostalgia of course. This image on the license plate encapsulates what USH was during my childhood. Really like the cup too. They had a Jaws and King Kong one. Might have to finish the set.
