Sure. Why not? He is his dad. Unless you like riding with stranger's children. ;)
Why should someone move further away from their own family and children because someone else chose the option that splits up groups? The whole point of Single Rider is to increase throughout which isn’t happening by stopping to move other people around to keep their group together.

First, Creepy Factor.

Second, It's only a swap between two people out of common courtesy to make the kid feel less scared. It's not like the entire train is playing musical chairs.

You don't get in a single rider line if you're not going to ride single or if you care where you're going to sit.

The kid probably shouldn't have been put in that situation, true, but that's not how single rider lines work. If you want to ride with your party, you get in the regular line. That's all there is to it. If Dad has an issue with his kid riding with a stranger, he shouldn't put the kid in the single rider line.

For the first, then people should be allowed to refuse a single rider being paired with them.

If you want the courtesy of sitting together you wait in line with all of the other groups. Single Rider means you’re giving that up for the benefit of a potentially shorter wait.

Just from a real world perspective, the loading at EE is very fast-paced and really does not allow any time for thinking about any of this.

And I’ve personally witnessed CMs there being very (understandably) I-don’t wanna-hear-it and strict about not letting people change seating assignments. All day they’re getting couples and families who use the Single Rider line to get to the front, and then attempt to rearrange things to sit together, pretending that they didn’t know about the must-accept assigned-seats rule. You can tell some CMs have had quite enough of that. I wouldn’t try to change seats on EE. 😄

That doesn't mean you can't be a nice person and swap places with the dad so they can ride together.
