All things Knotts Berry Farm

Most likely the case then, though the past two years they were very explicit in saying "yep, this is Paranormal's last year." "Yep, last year for Special Ops" etc. If those were 100% going, these descriptors are like 80%.

Yeah. The descriptions basically implies but doesn't necessarily confirm but it does make you think.

I'm at Knott's. They have posters dating Pumpkin Eater, the Hollow and Dark Ride as being their last season this year. 2016-2022 RIP. Two new mazes this year.

Looks like they are still working on decorations. The broadwalk area still needs balloons. The cowboy skeletons are up.

RIP to Dark Ride; I was entirely smitten to the concept year one, and it was a really beautiful maze at parts if not entirely scary.

I'm a big fan of atmospheric walkthroughs over scares, so I'm really hoping I can make my way to Knott's this year to see Dark Ride one last time and Mesmer.

Not surprised, but devastated nonetheless.

I thought both were absolute masterpieces of the form in a way that even some newer mazes don't live up to.

It'll be interesting to see what the Hollow will be replaced with.

I guess you meet a projection of a good fairy that lets you take as much candy as you want. I think it is a trap!

Had a great time Friday night at Knotts Scary Farm. The crowd was different from usual. No gangs of teenagers. There were lots of parents and kids. I never waited longer than 30 minutes for a maze. It was a much nicer crowd. The two new mazes make all of HHN mazes look sad.

The Grimoire was absolutely amazing! They fill you in with a cheesy History Channel documentary on the Grimoire intermixed with 80's commercials and news broadcasts. There was even a Go-Bots commercial. You enter the campsite where a girl is reading the Grimoire book as we stand around the campfire. We then get transported to some crazy places including a WWI trench.

Bloodlines was a laser tag shooter where you shoot vampires in a steampunk fantasy world. There are multiple show scenes were actors advance the plot. You finally battle the big end boss vampire. The maze looks incredible.

We watched the up close magician who was pretty creepy and the carnival circus acts with rock band. Puppet Up is the same as last year. Knotts added a 20's jazz band to the Goring 20s scare zone. It was a nice surprise.

All in all, it was a wonderful night because of the chaperone policy. Make sure to not bring a bag or at least limit to the size of a pack. They are turning away anyone that brings in a bag even as small as those Disney mini backpacks. Year long soda cups are being honored. You can bring in a thermos but they will make you empty it before entry.

The Calico Candy Mine at night gets creepy when the good candy fairy turns children into gingerbread men and eats them! The log ride's Halloween Hootenanny is the same day or night. No popup monsters. I think Knotts has outdone themselves this year. It will be nice to see two new mazes next year. I'm a little tired of Puppet Up.

So they have scareactors in the Mine? Sweet!

I feel like Puppet Up is here to stay unless audience numbers have fallen. I remember that the previous show in there could barely fill half the house.

The fairy and children are projections in the heaven room. No scareactors on either ride. Last Friday's Puppet Up filled the lower sections but the upper were mostly empty. We sat at the upper far back and relaxed. At least it was really cold inside.

Ah, I see. Heaven room made me chuckle, although to be honest I can't remember what the proper name for that room is myself.

It's also early in the season yet. I'm sure it'll fill up as people get more and more into Halloween mode.

Selfishly I'd like to see it at least one more time before they call it quits, and this year's not in the cards, so I'm in favor of it sticking around at least another year beyond this one. Next year will already be a bit of a bummer for me without Pumpkin Eater, the Hollow (maybe it's the midwestern in me but you need a proper pumpkin patch/corn maze sort of setting for it to feel like Fall IMO), or Dark Ride.

All while Dark Entities still lives on, taunting me with its enduring mediocrity.

Chaperone Policy has been updated to allow each Adult to accompany up to 5 minors. I was there Sunday and it was no more then 5 minute waits for mazes except the 2 new ones and the streets felt empty. Looks like they might ne trying to up attendance.

The nice thing is it brought out a lot of families and they don't stay very late. If this continues next year, they may have to tone down the gore level in new mazes and be more creepy for families. That isn't a bad thing.

The two new mazes weren't gory but more Stranger Things creepy and fantasy. I think we are going to see a shift towards more story telling mazes like Grimoire and away from Wax Works. However, I don't think it will ever get neutered to the point of candy trails like Disneyland.
