All things Knotts Berry Farm

Who says they're being friendly?

Although I bet Jon thanked Josh profusely for "sunsetting" their AP program, just in time for Knotts' 100th Celebration.

Josh D'Amaro was spotted at Knotts Berry Farm hanging out with Knotts VP Jon Storbeck.

This makes a lot of sense, they both have been proving themselves to be good leaders. I wonder if Josh is trying to convince Jon to comeback as president of the Disneyland resort? Or maybe his Vice President in charge of all of the Disney parks?

Seriously, Disney has to be looking at how well Knott's has faired through all of this and kicking themselves for ever getting rid of him.

So very happy to see friends posting photos and videos again of the talented Disney entertainers...

...all currently performing at Knott's Summer Nights. lol

Well, a gig's a gig! :)
Disneyland doesn't need any entertainment. All of the Disney addicts are more than willing to give that stuff up for the opportunity to pay full price so they can spend an abbreviated day at the park. Same price they normally charge when Parades, Fireworks, Fantasmic!, Music, Close-Up Character Meet & Greets are all provided.

And wait until they can "officially" open up to out of staters. That should be enough to carry them through the summer.

Just woke up after a long day at Knotts yesterday (was able to change my reservation from the 29th to yesterday)

Some observations

-Knotts employees carrying the signs about masks were about and intercepted 2 people eating or drinking while moving and one that didn't had a mask on.
-People in the queues did their best to stay on the 6 ft markers but some parts of the queues that should have those markers were missing.
-Plenty of small entertainment to be seen in the park in addition to the Snoopy show, Krazy Kirk and the live band during Summer Nights. Saw some Ghost Town characters about on the balconies and by the train station (the train is still down)
-The Knotts Sky Tower lighting moment was small but had the pyro which I like.
-Rides were basically walk ons towards the last hour of operations. The Log Ride which had a long line in the day had no line at all. Got my own log and didn't get wet.
-Calico Saloon is open but entrance is on the side by calico park and exit is across from the churros. All drinks take out only.
-Bag Checks was quick. Person does basically contactless checks by peeking in to the bags. Still utilizing the wand waving thing.
-With Temp checks discontinued a while ago, they basically just ask if you had any exposure to COVID symptoms are anyone that had it. Also asking if you have reservations.
-Coasters that didn't have a grouper assigning rows to groups now has one. Montezuma had one when I went on it.

With that it does appear that Knotts largely has returned to normal except for some entertainment changes and following mask mandates and distancing. Have another reservation set for June 12th, 3 days before CA reopens fully and theme parks can operate as normal again.

And with that, Knotts has claimed another Disneyland Legacy Passholder (Me)

Not me, I will be going in July to Disneyland, but I got a free ticket. Now if they discounted the prices, I would consider it. But not at full price. I don't need parades, fireworks, or Fantasmic, but a show at the Fantasyland theater. Put something on the outdoor stage in the Hollywood section, not just a character. Atmosphere entertainment, have the Dapper Dans, Disneyland Band, etc. and we will talk. Knott's is proving it can be done, so they will be getting my business. Don't get me wrong, I like Disney and will eventually pay go back, probably not until after they bring APs back and they need entertainment back.

Knotts Berry Farm just released an update on park reservations.

For KBF, entry times are no longer necessary. If you have an active reservation with an entry time, you can now show up early and enter the park!

For Soak City, an entry time is still required to make a reservation.

Regular Season pass holders can now have up to 2 park reservations for Knotts Berry Farm

Gold and Platinum Passholders can now have 3 reservations (2 KBF and 1 Soak City) at once

Thanks for the update. Just looked at the Reservations page, and indeed, the time slots are gone.

This Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday are all unavailable though, which has been the case for several days now.

While I'm glad for this development, I also had a 10:00 reservation for this Saturday, and I had been looking forward to an empty park for a couple of hours, which might no longer be the case. Oh well.

I got a reservation just before noon today for Saturday.

My point is it is fairly easy to snag a reservation now, I mean Memorial Day Weekend will always be harder, but all of next month is wide open.

Saturday June 5 is blacked out now.

I'm sure days will go out and back in. Especially if they continue adjusting capacity.

But I believe that weekends will not be wide open throughout the summer. Especially Fridays & Saturdays, since that's when there will be the Summer Nights entertainment and longer hours. I have little doubt that KBF sold a lot of Season Passes this year, not to mention the carryovers from 2020. And these are not like Disney's old system with Blackouts, or Universals. All are created equal, usable 365 days a year.

Knotts is going to have an unbelievable year. With it seemingly unlikely that Disney will have any sort of program at least through the summer, Knotts is going to have more demand than they can handle, at least so far as weekends are concerned. As someone who had a Flex Pass for almost the duration of it's existence, I expect it to be similar. With the 2 reservation limit, it already is. As more people discovered and purchased the Flex Pass, it became harder to get days when you wanted them. I learned to prioritize at least 2-3 weeks in advance, or longer, any day I knew I would want to go. And if I wanted a spur of the moment visit, and nothing opened up, I learned to live without going.

On the plus side, I don't see KBF getting a big influx from out of state visitors. Not like Disney or to a lesser extent, USH will. But with their low Season Pass price, and no Disney program whatsoever, not to mention Scary Farm, I think they have the local market cornered through Halloween.

No question that Disneyland shutting down the current AP Program has created an opportunity for the other parks in SoCal. They now can entice former pass holders with their still intact and cheaper Passholder programs.

Knotts has been seen as a "Locals" Park so I also don't think that it won't receive the amount of out of state visitors that both DLR and USH will get.

I was able to get June 12th as my 2nd active reservation when the news broke out that we can have 2 active reservations. I got June 5th this past Sunday which, at the time, had 11am open when they still did the entry time. Now I can be there before they open if I want to.

I wouldn't be so sure about them not getting out of.state visitors. The current USA Today poll of best theme park in America places them at number three, just behind Silver Dollar City and Dollywood. The first Disney park is Magic Kingdom all the way down at number 7. Note rankings may change as it is still open, but every year they have done this has put Disney in at least 4 of the 10 top spots, so there is a bit of a shift going on.

When Disneyland closed, I was counting the days until they reopened and I could go back to using my pass. I was saving up a good amount of money for my family to blow on Disney parks. But it's been so long and the experience is so different now that I really miss it less and less, and knotts has been a good substitute for a fraction of the cost. I seriously had set aside a lot of money to spend at Disney when passes return but now... I'm not so sure. When they told me that I would have to pay for parking at downtown Disney to return an item the other day I think my Disney withdrawal evaporated.

There should be a difference between Amusement Parks and Theme Parks. That list/poll combined them. Most of the Top 10 are rollercoaster parks. Dollywood is somewhere in between but more rollercoaster park.

Disney and Universal parks are on 10 to 20 which is weird. Well I guess you have to factor in the voters. The ticket prices of the Top 5 are way cheaper and their covid rules are more lax.

Having been to all three, I would classify the top three as theme parks through and through.

But the point remains that Disney is way down from their normal yearly rankings on this same exact poll (not counting 2020, which had similar results, the parks that faired the best are the ones with entertainment), which likely gets a similar crowd voting every year.

The top three all have one thing in common, they all have tons of entertainment, even right now, something Disney is sorely lacking, especially Disneyland.

Really, most of the parks that are above Disney all have a decent amount of entertainment happening right now, many even are doing fireworks on the weekends, some nightly. The one park I am not sure as to how much entertainment they have right now is Hershey Park, the other top 8 all have a decent amount that is happening.

Yes, as far as rides, some may be primarily roller coasters, but they offer enough for those that don't do roller coasters to give these parks a much broader appeal.
