All Star Music Family Suites?

We are planning a trip for Dec 2010. We are in the process of finding a resort to stay at. This will be the kids 1st trip to WDW. I was looking at the Family Suites in the All Star Music resort. Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? I would love to hear some first hand reports. Also if anyone has any other resort suggestions that would be great. It would need to accomadate 2 adults and 4 children (10,9,6,2). We would like to try and keep it fairly cheap.
Thanks Lena

I stayed in them in 2006. They are nice and comfortable. The foldout couch and chair slept well back then and the 2nd bathroom came in handy as we had 2 girls with me and my buddy. Overall, it was a good experience.

In your price and amenities comparison, also look into booking two rooms and requesting connecting rooms. (And I think with four kids and two adults, you'd be given priority in being assigned connecting rooms) Two rooms run about $20-$30 cheaper per night than one Family Suite, depending on the season.

The Suite will give you a queen-size bed, a full-size sleep sofa, and two twin-size fold outs. Two rooms will give you a total of four full-size beds.

In both options you get two bathrooms, though only the Suite has the kitchenette and the living room (when it's not in sleep mode).

I'd prefer to get two separate, conjoining rooms. Rooms that have the connecting doorway in between them.

It's cheaper than a family suite and you get 4 beds. The living room area only looks nice and inviting when set up as the living room. But you will use the sofas as beds and, from pictures, it doesn't look as nice.

The suites have a kitcheonette. Do you really need cabinet space, a mini fridge, and kitchen sink?

I'd pick two rooms and save a little cash.

I'd pick two rooms and save a little cash.

But by getting themselves set up with breakfast food, milk, juice and snacks, they'd probably only spend the same amount as though they were purchasing them daily from the resort.

Id go with the Family Suite as the older kids can have their own beds whiel the younger two could share the larger bed, plus you can store your own snacks and leftovers in the kitchenette (saving money from buying every snack and beverage in the food court or the parks).

I stayed in the suite 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. There were 4 adults and we chose the suite because we liked to eat breakfast in the room, so the refrigerator and microwave was very helpful. Disney also supplies the plates, napkins, and cups. Hope his helps!

Definitely book the suites. The kids are the perfect ages for it. There are 4 beds in the room: king/queen in a private room, a chair that turns into a single, a footstool that turns into a single bed, and a double sleeper sofa. The fridge is invaluable. It will cost you about $10.00/night if you book two rooms, so keep that in mind!

Keep in mind that while every attempt will be made to get two connecting rooms, there is never a guarantee if that is what you pick.

I called and got prices there is only a $20 difference between a suite and 2 rooms. We are going to be driving so I figured that when we got down there I could just go to the grocery store. I would be able to get some breakfast and snacks, which will save us a little $.
Thanks for everyones help!

I'm not sure if you wanted any input on All Star Music itself, but just in case - we stayed there a year ago and Loved it! We thought ASMu was a great resort.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the suites might be in the Jazz Building (someone help me out here:)) and Jazz is a great location! Have a great trip!

On the topic of ASMu, in general, I absolutely love this resort. We've stayed there three times now, and it is by far our favorite value resort. We stayed at POP last time and wished we had booked Music instead. Have a great trip!

The Family Suites are evenly distributed between the Jazz and Calypso buildings. (basically the 4 closest buildings to Melody Hall)

We have stayed in the ASMu suites twice in 2009 and we loved it. We really made great use of the kitchenette. The coffee pot alone was so worth have brewed coffee and breakfast before dealing with others who are not family! We stayed with 4 adults, my hubby, our son, my brother, and I it was a perfect arrangement. To tell the truth dear hubby and I are scheduled to arrive Jan 24, 2010 at ASMu and I am really, really resisting the temptation of calling the reservation number and seeing if we can use our AP discount for one of the family suites for just the two of us. The space is just wonderful and you will find that the fridge is quite useful. It is also a bit larger than the rental fridges that you could get for $10.00 a day in regular rooms. I would definately recommend the suite.

I covered the suites a little in my TR. Feel free to check it out...

I'm a huge fan of the suites!!! The kitchenette is worth whatever the extra money is! And we didn't even eat in our room that often... it was only a quick breakfast in the morning... but it was still so convienient! It's nice to have the extra little sick for cleaning mugs or whatever. The storage space is nice even if you only use for a few leftover snacks. They do provide some plastic utensils, cups, and paper bowls and plates. I brought my own but didn't need to. I'm pretty sure they restock them as you use them b/c a couple of times our mousekeeper asked us if we needed any more!

I'm spoiled... I don't know how I'm going to go back to a regular room!
