All Mountains Down Today at MK

I wouldn't be surprised if Splash Mountain is down for a few days, if it was still closed later in the evening. From what I've heard it isn't necessarily show or maintenance related, either.

Amid summer-like crowds at the MK, both Space Mountain and Splash Mountain went down this afternoon for a considerable amount of time. Guests had to be evacuated from the ride vehicles.

With Big Thunder closed, this means an afternoon with no functioning mountains at the MK.

Oh, Small World went down today too.
One of the dolls went off script and hurled a slew of obscenities at a guest again, eh?

Thunder and Splash have been operating at breaking point for far too long. Refurbs have been put off for too long. As a consequence, Thunder is now down with Splash barely hanging in there, breaking down all the time. Add in a problem at Space and there's disaster, with all three mountains down.

Disaster is such a relative term I guess...

At 5:30, all three mountains were down, and then Buzz was stopped (though not evacuated, and I saw the PeopleMover e-stop moments later too). I'm sure they were all unrelated, but it was kind of enough to make you wonder if there was a power outage/shortage somewhere. Apparently not, I guess.

I do agree it's not so optimal to have that much break (or be on rehab) at once. The Liberty Belle is also on rehab (and away at drydock somewhere apparently).

Liberty Belle is in Dry dock at central shops.. saw her 2 days ago with my own 2 eyeballs ;)

Peoplemover has been getting estopped about once every 30 mins lately.. can't stop morons from standing up I'm afraid..

You start kicking people out of the park for standing up and I bet they would stop.

Really? What if the Overtakers are responsible for this:mad:?! I have a funny feeling that could be true....

I just started reading the books.....could totally see that happening:p Imagine a guest standing in line for Splash Mountain and they hear "Folks, please accept our apologies for Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear...", think to themselves ahh man! Then walk off to another attraction while passing by the castle show. It was the the Disney villains all along!!!;)

I went to Epcot and MK this evening, and yes, the crowds were amazing. Not 4th of July crowded, but definetly summer crowded.

As for the mountains being down - as a few others have said - if you don't properly maintain the rides on a regular basis, if you are skipping out on a proper refurb to simply put in lapbars, and you spend the majority of another refurb worrying about the nextgen features in the queue - yeah, the 20-40 year old rides are going to get fatigued...

Like Splash being down for 5 hours then going 101 again on the restart?

Yes, actually! It's called "get over it" :animwink: Something that it seems the latest generation has yet to grasp. When the park is consistently busy and operating 9am-11pm, 9am-12am, 9am-2am, non-stop, these things are bound to happen. It's unfortunate that all mountains were down at the same time, but is it really the end of the world? No. There are plenty of other attractions and things to enjoy. You're in Disney World for pete's sake!

I'd say it's called why could it not be restarted for a half day and why did it fail again? And what can be done to stop it happening again? Yes it's just one attraction, but are there any consequences for the way the ride operates and for the future?

None of the downtimes appears to be due to maintenance issues. From the things I've heard Splash probably was some sort of medical issue and Space was about someone trying to get out of the ride on the hoist incline.

The lap bars on Splash were not about 'skipping proper refurb'. They were because of the number of people who did things like standing up and trying to change seats, getting out of the log and trying to leave via emergency exits, and trying to stand on the large drop, among others. There were lots of incidents like that causing operators to shut down the ride and it can take a lot of time to restart.

Not every stoppage is maintenance related, in fact they are the minority by far. Safety stoppages are the biggest.

That I will agree with. There is a lot more MANUAL(Operator caused) E-Stops and Ride Stops than there are AUTOMATIC(Computer caused) E-Stops and Ride Stops. Then there are a lot of MANUAL Station Stops also when guests are slow loading and not sitting down or buckled in and slows down the whole ride and causes back-ups and also leads to other problems.

But then again there are maintenance problems that need to be fixed but don't really affect the ride operation normally, but if they do need to use it then it will make a short down time into a really long one. They try to fix it on 3rd shift, but don't always have the parts or manpower so hopefully it will last until the next rehab.

if you knew WHY they were both down, you would realize that it had nothing ot do with maintenance. You can't control guests as much as we would like to.

Splash re-opened last night, rode it a few times myself. Along with that, Space wasn't down for long. I must have road it at least five times between 6 and 10pm
