So, all this talk about JII makes me giddy..

With that said, in the previous Epcot thread, it was mentioned that Disney is taking the money from the SSE descent and placing it into other projects... Do we know what those projects are? I will assume one is Journey... Are their any others???

I don't know, seeing that JII would cost much more than the money needed to finish the descent.

From what's been hinted at...I think EPCOT might get aesthetic work from this..

Remember, Siemens is still funding the descent. The other projects are numerous, the kitty has just been boosted here and there (not by an awful lot, but to look good on paper) for this and that. Better in the long run.

Ah...;) Gotcha.:D

Is work still going on, then? Lee indicated it had stopped.

I love it..."here and there", "this and that"....

Apparently, the Siemens money for the descent has run out for now, so Disney has turned it's attention elsewhere.
As soon as Siemens kicks in some more money, Disney will eventually go back to work on SSE.
Even without the other projects, SSE would be on hold until Siemens brings more funds to the table, probably next fiscal year.
Or...so I hear it.

But the new fiscal year could be as soon as later this year, correct?

Could be technical issues too.

This is strange. If the money was there before, when they were working on it, then why didn't they just finish the damn thing, instead of pussyfooting around. They could have finish the descent in a week if they had of set their mind to it.

Instead they have wasted their time and Siemens money and not finished the descent. So now Siemens has pulled the funding because Disney was wasting their time and Siemens money.

Agreed in full. I'm tempted to call mismanagement, but we shall see...

So, basically, Epcot will get cleaned up?? Not bad at all... Not that the park is dirty, but, a few changes here and there, and the park can be as beautiful as ever (I.E. removing Leave A Legacy)... I just hope we hear of some good projects sooner rather than later...

Epcot Update: June 6th

Hey there! Thought I'd share a bit of news/views from the park from June 6th:

- Most topiary from the F&G Festival has been removed. Walls are up over in Germany and Morocco, and shrub walls are also in place over by the East entrance to MouseGear and along the Rose Garden path as F&G displays are removed. The flower mural on the West shore has been removed, but the East mural on the Odyssey side is still there, looking very much dead now. The sooner its gone the better. The floating garden is still floating, and a few temporary tents are still up as well along World Showcase Promenade.

- Full entrance plaza BGM is back, as has been reported.

- Outside BGM around SSE seemed a tad louder (as did most BGM around the park). Its almost loud enough. Almost.

- Fountain of Nations isn't in as good a shape as I originally thought. Main super shooter (the one in the middle thats supposed to go up to 150 feet) is not working at all. Also, a number of the other 80 foot shooters are still crooked, the secondary arch nozzles are crooked/at the wrong angle, and the front three fans still don't go off during performances. Not good at all. :brick:

- Mission:SPACE audio was fine in the two capsules I rode in.

- Brake test TVs in Test Track weren't working. The non-ABS test had no TV, and the ABS TV (which was a new flat panel) was on but not working; probably still programing it to the right video signal. Still, bad show Disney! Also, thermal camera/screen just after the outside loop was not working. On the plus side, the brake test comparison screens were working, and those usually never work, so that was nice to see.

- Japan is now free of tarps. The pagoda looks very nice now. China still has some tarps up behind Lotus Blossom Cafe.

- IllumiNations was, for the most part, good. Perimeter wall luches were not working (why I do not know, there was no wind to speak of so that wasnt the reason). The Earth Globe was fine; all continents fully lit and functioning and torch came on perfectly. Chaos was good, as was Adventure for the most part. The waterfalls in Home are still a bit off, and the blue star fireworks in Celebration weren't together (as usual :brick:). Also, Torch #1 did not light at the beginning of We Go On like it should have; it did light just before the torch in the Earth Globe lit though. So, not too bad, but still room for improvement. I have video if anyone wants it; just give a shout and I'll upload it.

Thats all I can think of right now. The bad weather slipped just to the north and south of Epcot so while it was mostly cloudy for the day, there was only about 15 mins or so of rain for the whole day. Overall, it was a great day. :)

Not exactly.
Siemens provides a set amount of money each year as part of the sponsorship. A portion of that was allocated for the continued work on the descent. That money has run out for this year. (I hear.)
So...the work on the descent has stopped, and will resume at at later date, probably soon after the next Siemens check rolls in. In the meantime, WDI and management have turned their attention to other areas of FW.
(This is the vague information I got up there a week or so ago...if anyone knows different, please feel free....)

That is why I think it is a technical issue and it's probably not a cheap fix. That fits and makes sense to me.

I hope you're right. Hopefully Siemens will cough up enough money, and then management will have the will to finish the descent. :dazzle: Hopefully other areas will, in fact, be addressed.
