My opinion...Best EPCOT and Disney ride, ever. Sorry,Horizons.

It executed the IIE so well. (Inform,Inspire, Entertain, ) I have never known a ride through to do this that well.

I just always think back to the first time I ever went to EPCOT, which, regrettably, was in 2001. Naturally, I did SSE first, and it completely did for me what's it's supposed to do: set the scene for EPCOT, and get you excited about the things you are going to see and learn in the following hours.

I was totally inspired, and now, it just kills me to think that first-timers walk into EPCOT, and the first thing they do is giggle at a cartoon.:fork:

Yes, Heaven forbid any educational ride at EPCOT have silly cartoons you laugh at. (Like Wonders of Life, Horizons, World of Motion, Journey Into Imagination, The Land, and Living Seas. Screw that stuff.)

Don't squish his brain, Travis! We're trying to educate him in the ways of the Horizons, not make him less intelligent! ;) :p

Seriously. Horizons was Kick A55. Had all those floors, and show scenes, giant screens, and a suspended ride system. I'm amazed that they even built the thing let alone tear it down. SSE is still there, just with a different soundtrack.

HORIZONS FTW.

EXACTLY!:sohappy: Communication was the basis of all you were going to see that day...It was really a cool thing.

The storyline they have going now is generic, but it works. Surprisingly very well...It could definitely herald a new beginning for EPCOT (Martin-Chapter 4 methinks?)

The only thing that REALLY bothers me is the ending...So abrupt, so anti clamatic. Is that the future? Staring at a screen? :)lookaroun). We just glided through all the major events of the world that have brought us to today! It just seems so out of place to me. Bring us back a song, and a story to finish it out and it actually would be a stellar attraction.

I said this once before...SSE'07 is a EPCOT attraction with a Epcot ending. I hope that makes sence.

Wrong.

Horizons.

*Puts stack of hardcover EPCOT books on Evan's head in punishment*

HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY!:fork::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

You know I loved Horizons. It was the quintessential Disney and EPCOT Center attraction. I am just saying that while SSE'94 and Horizons both fulfilled the IIE (see above post) SSE miiighta done it a bit better. It's more "relatable" and realistic in my opinion. Horizons was far flung futurism and fantasy while SSE showed the future that was GOING to happen.

See what I mean?

Sounds like a very Wall-E future...

Does this mean I'll never get to exercise in Zero-G on a bike hanging upside down?

Ummm...not quite...when Horizons was built in the 80s, everything in that ride was a very viable concept. As every American industry except the computer sector failed in the 90s, Horizons seemed more and more far-fetched; but it originally wasn't.

People used to be more optimistic before the dot-com bubble burst and 9/11. People were even more positive before the culture wars in the 1960s (even after the Depression!). In spite of our astounding progress, I wonder where we would be now if the solid optimism of the early 20th century had lasted through the tech breakthroughs in the 90s.

The current SSE ending is pure fantasy, and even though my opinion has become more positive since I experienced it with happy friends, a suitcase that packs itself and virtual hologram checker players are a slap in the face after the amazing ascent into the sphere.

Yeah, I'm more of a three-dimensional chess kind of guy, myself! :D

I like the video at the end of SSE. It reminds me of the old Walt Disney's World of Color cartoons about the future.

That being said, those that didn't get to experience EPCOT in the mid eighties, missed a heck of a park. Not that it's bad now, but it's just not focused on it's original intention.

Nothing will be as mind blowing to me as Horizons. World of Motion was right behind it, only because I'm a transportation junkie, and how could you not like the model of the Futurecity?

If three things happen within the next few years it will be the tripple fanboy transcenter of tranquillity.

1.) SSE gets "finished" with a better use of the touch screens, their purpose, what they show, etc, as well as a Siemens Generation 21/ tommorow's child finish that exists into an already great Project Tomorrow with showspace not seen since the earth station, let alone you have an earth station homage with the images of people displayed on the screens, and sort of 21st century travelport globe in project tomorrow.

2.) Innoventions plaza looses the clutter, gets new and simpler sidewalks, new color schemes on innoventions and the earth station building.

3.) Entrance gets redone with palm trees, rows of welcoming flowers and plants, and a new color scheme.

The only bad thing about Disney changing the ending to Spaceship Earth is that I'll miss out on my current 2 minute nap that I experience every time I ride the attraction now

Honestly, once you go through the blue lights (can't remember the name of the effect), you might as well close your eyes. Can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves.

All legitimately planned, no timetables. It's not quite time to geek out.

So we'll all NEVER move and watch pepper's ghost videos of cheezy 90's people in a cardboard city with neon lights as our children play CGI-Bee-based-Video-Games suspended in a Dark Abyss somewhere in Space?
