All DHS, all the Time

I would be stunned if it goes back to the original concept. It was a great park but in the information age where classic Hollywood features are a Netflix order away, it just doesn't have the same appeal.

I really hope they go forward with a "Disney's Hollywood" studios concept and leave the Hollywood notalgia for DCA.

Just me 2 cents.

I think that the original concept, in my opinion... was:
"get a damn movies theme park built and open before Universal does!"

So, not a whole lot of thought about location of the park, size needs, future expansion etc was built into the original park. Besides, some of the better attractions of the park came along years after it originally opened.

If there really is a NEED for a working studio in FL, then build what you need on another part of the property. Because, how much of what we see today in the movies and on TV really comes fromt this lot? (I'm sure someone is going to slap me for saying this and will probably correct my knowledge)

By the "studios" concept I mean "Lucasland", Muppetland", "Pixarland", "Animation-land" etc etc. It ceased being a working studio long ago and the concept was such a failure I think there is zero chance it will come back.

I agree, its one of my favourite aspects about the park. That's why the hat needs to be moved because it totally disrupts the feel.

The problem with LMA is that it has so many theme park stunt show clich'es. A guy catches on fire, wow, never seen that before! I was watching the Dark Knight the other day, and I thought maybe somthing like the flipping truck would be amazing for the show.

Speaking of which, did you see how they flipped the truck in the DVD extra from The Dark Knight? That is one of the awesome things about that film... they kept CG use as minimal as possible. Truck really flips over on camera.

Doesn't Indy Stunt show have a pickup truck that flips over and bursts into flames?

By the way, unless someone has a brilliant replacement idea for the hat, it has to stay, so Disney doesn't pay for using the image of Chinese Theater as the focal point of the park.

Now that I could work with.

DHS changes

First Time Long Time- (sports radio fans know, 1st post, long time reader).

I have been a disney guy for awhile, and frankly I feel DHS is dissapointing to a lot of us because it has the potential to be amazing!!!

GMR, RnRC, ToT, TSM, Fantasmic are to me untouchable and great Disney attractions. I'm also Ok with the Indy stunt show, LM and BaTB. But let's delve shall we:

1st- Star Tours: Star Wars is one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, greater than than fan craze of Harry Potter which is getting it's whole land, yet we're stuck with this stale simulator attraction. While Star Tours 2sounds like it could be great if opened, why isn't there a mini LucasLand with the REAL Indy ride (my favorite series) to go with the stunt show, and two star wars rides, with associated themed areas and restaurants. There is a definate fan base and merchandise demand for these two franchises.

2nd- Sounds Dangerous: When was this a good attraction? Ever? This would be a perfect spot for some sort of dark ride related to the movies or the beggining of Lucas land. But Drew carey is brutal, and the ride is honestly a shock...a shock that disney could even possibly imagine it is a quality product.

3rd- Narnia- Think about the amazing rides that could go with such a fantasy based attraction packed with adventure, creative characters and an all ages fanbase. Yet, we get a downright pathetic, quickly thrown together movie room, showing commercials for the next movie...this is a lazy excuse for entertainment.

I could go on, but its my first post....so this is a sufficient cherry pop! My next trip is the end of May, and my first stay at Saratoga Springs, anybody ever been?

i just want them to put in carsland and something else having to do with george lucas thats not a simulator or show. maybe an actual ride? that would be nice

I'm not a huge fan of those "land" ideas. The spirit of the park kind of needs to encompass all the great movies ever made (in a figurative sense) and movie making in general not just individual film makers, franchises, etc.

And I really wish they'd bring back the working studio aspect to the park again. It really added a whole new level to the park and I don't see why they couldn't. They could build a few new sound stages and backlot sets across the canal to the south of the park and have Disney film its own productions there and have other production companies film there for certain fees. I dunno, just my hopeless wishful thinking.

I also wish they'd bring back the celebrity visitations and hand print ceremonies. Well, the American Idol premier was a step in the right direction.

 Oooh, ooh, I do, I do, pick me!

Remove the hat and remodel Grauman's to the El Capitan.

I realize that the El Capitan doesn't have the recognition that Grauman's does, but for my purpose all you need is an elegant old Hollywood theater. But I will add that it needs a giant marquee - jumbotron marquee. During the day it can look static for the majority of the day, a classic movie marquee with an advertisment for the Great Movie Ride. Maybe occassionally Tinkerbell or somesuch flies across to animate the signboard.

But at night...Imagine a multi-media fireworks display. Build the new facade with leds, lasers, fire effects, smoke, fireworks launching sites. You wouldn't have to have the grand fireworks experience that the Magic Kingdom has, just a multitude of great effects well timed to music and movie clips. Imagine watching the Walt Disney Pictures white castle opening with an firework arc going over the theater at the same time. Or the Tinkerbell opening clip from the "Disneyland" tv show with the theater building simultaneously sparkling with the pixie dust leds. Add in Muppet clips, Pixar clips, Disney live action and animation. Lucas Films clips if they could pay for them too. You could easily create special Star Wars Weekend, Halloween and Christmas movie montages as well.

I don't think Disney should have built a weak version of Universal Studios Hollywood. They came up short and they should now go in a unique direction that is 100% Disney IMO.

One of the directions they could go is a park with no real form or "lands". Like the real Hollywood and most cities it could be presented as a mix of old and new in which guests are encouraged to explore the streets of with different attractions and features you just stumble on including placing characters throughout all the areas to entertain guests.

No offense, but that sounds like a lazy excuse to not properly theme the park.

As much as I love DHS, it does need a lot of love and attention. As far as what kind of love, I'm not really sure. DHS is kinda locked into its specific area with pretty much no room to expand, other than removing the Backlot Tour.
First off, something MUST be done about the entrance/exit gate for cars. I mean holy cow theres only one gate into and out of the parking lot! Half the time the traffic backs up off the access road and down the Epcot Hotel boulevard (correct me if I am wrong). Animal Kingdom has more than one gate at least.
Second, why in the world is Sounds Dangerous still in existence? For as long as the attraction has been around, I have yet to sit and watch the show. However from the comments I've read about and heard about it, it obviously needs some lovin'.

Just my two cents :)

MGM (I will never say DHS!) needs the Indiana Jones ride that is in California!

I think this is the addition that DHS needs the most. All the major thrill rides in the park are in the Sunset Blvd. corner and building Indy in the former spot of the stunt show would even the park out. It would also give DHS somthing to boast over Universal. And while they're at it, maybe they could throw in a Raging Spirits/Excavator ride just to add some more thrills.

i would rather have that in adventureland like in DL

Trust me when I say DHS needs it far more.
