Al Lutz--Not much coming to domestic parks re: Lucas purchase

Probably. Within the next decade or so. And I'd bet this is where most of the new franchise goes. Along with the other one.

Nothing has been announced for Orlando. So far as I know. Things have been mentioned that might add up eventually, but nothing of substance yet. Again, from what I know.

Hmm. Really? DL is getting another park?? What would the theme be where Star Wars could fit? Westcot?

If Universal could build an amazing park where Marvel, Seuss, and Harry Potter can live side by side, I have faith that Disney could do the same with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Marvel.

Ho-boy would that be an amazing park.

Maybe even add in some of Disney's lesser (in-park) used animated movies like Aladdin and Hercules?

I want this. I want it now. haha

That would be amazing. Would you be okay if Avatar was added? You know if this ever happens it will be.

The purchase of LucasFilm was not about acquire properties for the theme parks. Same for the purchase of Marvel. It played a small role in the Pixar deal because Disney wanted Lasseter and he wanted to be involved in the parks. I honestly believe that if he could do so without killing his reputation, Iger would sell off the parks (But nobody is going to vote for The Man Who Sold Off Disneyland).

A Star Wars film is going to recoup its costs over a single weekend. An attraction, not even a land, will take years using an indirect estimate based on turnstile clicks while also creating costs in terms of staffing and maintenance. Iger is risk averse. It's why he is buying up so many other companies (there are smaller companies in realms like gaming that have been purchased as well as the big three of Pixar, Marvel and LucasFilm). It's why his emphasis is on films being franchises. It's why he has said the theme park additions under him will be tied to proven (the Marvel Cinematic Universal was not really proven until The Avengers) franchises.

The only Marvel projects publicly moving forward are non-Disney (the recent upgrades at Islands of Adventure and the now scaled back Dubai park). Star Tours: The Adventures Continue does not seem to have created a massive influx of visitors. I would definitely expect to see Star Wars Weekends expanded, as Disney is now the employer of those involved in Star Wars. I would also expect Disney to try and get more involved with Star Wars Celebration, and maybe even try to get it onto Walt Disney World. But these activities will all bring in far more money, far more quickly in a manner easier to track than aggressive theme park expansion. Nothing about this purchase changes Disney's attitudes towards the parks because there is no 800lb gorilla being brought in who wants to play in the parks. They're not Iger's big focus and they will continue to play second fiddle to other parts of the company. They will be added to and expanded as "needed," and consistent with Iger's vision and statements will not be a launching point.

He contradicts himself a bit. After saying not much new will show up in Orlando he ends with these two paragraphs; which tells me he has as much of a clue as we all do.

"So is this all a good thing? I think so, and it certainly addresses all the questions everyone had about Universal’s Harry Potter deal giving the Disney Resorts some good competition. Remember, JK Rowling has completed the Potter series of books, while Disney plans a continuing run of Star Wars sequels ramping up right away.

I’ve said before this is a good time for theme park fans, as all the major players have been increasing their efforts. We are going to see some great new attractions and themed environments over the next few years as they continue to one up each other with what they can do. It’s going to be a blast!"
Thats not a contradiction He did say there are no real plans for anything state side the first paragraph says “Disney Resorts” which is all of them, worldwide. And the second he just says new environments and Attractions to state side resorts, which would reference Avatar, New Fantasyland and Cars-land.

yep im sure nobody will show up in 2015/16...silly post from people who are bitter about it...let it go...when it opens try it you may enjoy yourself

Actually I am for the Avatar build. If they can make the land look anything like the movie it will be fantastic to walk through.

I just find it funny that everyone hates that Avatar is "not Disney", but is super psyched about SW and Marvel.

And it could be called: Disney's Islands of Adventure! (No wait...might get sued for that one.)

That's exactly the vibe I get from this idea of a third park. I'd much rather see an original idea for a theme park like Disneysea...and they could have a land based on Marvel and one on Star Wars...as well as other interesting properties and original attractions. If it was just Marvel and Star Wars, it wouldn't do it for me.

With the last trilogy coming out now, I am sure that disney is looking at expanding SW presence at WDW. I only think that they are going to hold back until ep 7 comes out and see what the response is going to be.

So why is Avatar getting built? It's a ground breaking movie (at the time) that made a lot of money but certainly not a franchise. I thought a franchise was a name and multiple products not just a high grossing movie.

I assume Disney's thought process on Avatar was that they signed on early in the Franchise development. It would be as if the Green Lit a Star Wars land in 1979.
