Al Lutz confirms Captain EO for January, 2010

Oh my goodness! If Captain EO came back to WDW, I'd jump in the car and not stop until I reached the front gates of Epcot. Any TRUE resurrection of EPCOT Center leaves me wanting to turn cartwheels, which is really difficult at almost 6 months pregnant.

Do you have information that he's right? Just because he says it doesn't make it so.

That sentiment is true for any human living on the planet. Even George Washington occasionally said stuff that didn't turn out to be right.

But, Al Lutz has a very, very solid track record over the past few years in breaking Disneyland news that no one else had mentioned. That's why he is quoted and interviewed regularly by the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, and other major media outlets.

Jim Hill just sort of posts lots of stuff that no one really pays attention to. Except for that whole Night Kingdom Boutique Park he rattled on about for a year and swore would be in construction mode by now. That at least had some message boards buzzing for a few months, until it fizzled into nothing.

Al Lutz and Jim Hill both deal in Disney rumors, but Lutz is in an entirely different league than Hill is.

Just like Al Lutz's breaking news on Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, characters in Small World, a rebuilt Disneyland Hotel, Little Mermaid E Ticket, flying Dumbo in the fireworks, Ghost Galaxy at Space Mountain, Star Tours 2.0 in 2011, flying Zero in a new Halloween fireworks, etc., etc., etc. I think we can wait another 10 days for Jay Rasulo to announce that Captain EO will be returning to Disneyland in January, 2010.

And Al Lutz will have gotten another one right.

Editor's Note 9/4: Captain EO Update - Honey I Shrunk The Audience will now be closed next week, Tues thru Thurs. WDI will be installing the Captain EO special effects to prepare the theater for Thur's private performance of the old show for Jay Rasulo and other bigwigs in Anaheim for the D23 Expo. Assuming Rasulo can find Tomorrowland (turn right in front of the castle) and no one in the audience has any objections to the show, Rasulo should then announce EO's January return during his Expo presentation on the 12th. - Al Lutz

Hmm interesting....

Editor's Note 9/11: Captain EO Update - Bob Iger kicked off the lavish D23 Expo with no major news and a rather coy answer on the Captain EO topic, as apparently Burbank is furious both the Star Tours and EO info leaked ahead of Jay Rasulo’s planned announcements on Saturday. Meanwhile, executives at WDI and TDA continue to prep for the January opening of EO, and gab about it rather openly. The technical tests for EO this week in the closed Honey I Shrunk Theater went well, and now it’s just up to Jay to either announce on Saturday or hold the news until after new year’s. - Al Lutz

I dont really have any feelings on EO for or against coming to DL or WDW. The most suprising thing is why would Iger say it's not coming and then we find out it is?

It kind of puts a damper on any news or non-news coming out of D23.

Why the cloak and dagger approach?

Welcome to the internet age, fellas. All it takes is one anonymous leak to a popular web site and, boom, the whole world knows. No risk to the leaker, big gain for the publisher. Good luck fighting that.

I would be more surprised if Disney was able to keep any big announcement a secret until the official reveal these days. Would we know how to react to something that nobody saw coming?

I guess it would appear that I do know more than Al Lutz then wouldn't it?

:lol::lol::lol:

MiceChat's contention that it's still opening EO in January again makes no sense. That would be like Apple launching a new product or major upgrade of say the MacBook 4 months after MacWorld without a major announcement.

If it was coming back...it would have been announced today.

EO is not coming....both Iger and Rasulo have denied that it's in any immediate plans for it...and the longer they wait, the less likely it will happen.

Give it up MiceChat!

Editor's Note 11/1: Here we go again... Remember the Captain EO rumor we told you about months ago? After being pulled at the very last minute during the D23 Expo, the jittery lawyers and Iger himself have been put more at ease, and the announcement of EO's return to Disneyland in January should be coming any day now. Despite a less than thrilling $32M open for the "This Is It" rehearsal film, Team Disney Anaheim is looking at the merch and attendance numbers that EO could drive before World of Color opens in late April. - Al Lutz

Does anyone else find it a little distasteful that Disney is capitalizing on MJ's death?

If the attraction was so good why wasn't it brought back before his death?

I'm ambivalent (see sig). I'm generally in favor of it, but I can see where someone would have that view of it. Anytime money is involved, I guess it's a fine line between paying tribute and cashing in.
