AKL vs. SSR

We are booked for the SSR in a studio for our Disneymoon, but I have heard a lot of mixed reviews as far as it now feeling very Disneyish. AKL is now available for my dates so i'm thinking about switching.

Which do you like best and why?

Thanks!

As for the comparison, I'd go with AKL any time I had the option. SSR just seems less appealing to me.

I've never stayed at the SSR but I have stayed at the AKL and it was wonderful. I loved everything about it. I think it would be cool for your Disneymoon because it's kind of tucked away and romantic and the food at Boma and Jiko are top notch...:)

I really enjoy SSR. We are DVC owners and love the resort! I don't understand why people say it doesn't have a "Disney feel". We spent our honeymoon there last year and had a wonderful time. I love the feel of being able to get away and the really short distance to Downtown Disney. It's only about a 5 minute walk. It's also a very quite resort with very few kids. In my opinion it's perfect place for a honeymoon.

On the other hand, I've never stayed at AKL. We are staying there this December. I just think there would be alot more kids there and that it wouldn't have the relaxed atmosphere that SSR has.

I hope this helps.

My wife and I are DVC members and we own at both SSR and AKL Villas and while SSR is a very nice resort(beatiful grounds, attractive and spacious rooms) it can in no way be compared to the beauty and grandeur of AKL...no comparison at all...whatsoever. We really like SSR, we'll be staying there again for the holidays in just a few weeks, but it was way down on the list as far as resorts we wanted to stay at on this trip. SSR is based around an equestrian theme and that theme is carried out very well at the resort but I also feel that SSR lacks the Disney "magic", the only blatant Disney reference I can think of at all is the pictures of famous Disney horses hanging in the lobby of the resort.

Also, be forewarned that the resort is MASSIVE and incredibly sprawled out creating very long bus rides back to your room and a very long walk to the main lobby, pool, dining and shopping area depending on which building you end up staying in. If you do decide to go with SSR, DEFINITELY request a room close to the main lobby. If you have the financial means I encourage you, with all of my heart, to switch over to AKL. I could could gush for days about the many joys of AKL but I won't, just trust me when I say that it is worth every single penny...at least IMHO.

Regardless of your choice you'll still have a great time...YOU'LL BE AT WALT DISNEY WORLD!

Have a great trip!

She was just trying to make her post count higher I know it. :lookaroun
I have friends that have stayed at SSR and say it is very relaxing. Great to go to after a long day at the parks. But AKL looks very unique and beautiful. If you have the chance to change I would say go for it.

We are also DVC members, have stayed at both. SSR has the Disney feel to it just not as much as AKLV. I like them both, as does my wife. Depending on where you may ask to stay in the resort will depend on how long you may walk to a bus stop or how long you wait for a certain bus. SSR is close to DTD, where as AKLV is far away from everything except AK. If you want to know they are just about the same age as well, except the villias at AKL, they are converted regular rooms. Where as SSR is set up for DVC as well as anybody who wants to stay there. For atmosphere I would say AKLV it's more Disney.

We split our honeymoon trip between AKL and WL. AKL is a fantastic resort, very atmospheric, very romantic (get room service and eat on the balcony) and just a wonderful experience. I've not stayed at SSR so I can't really comment but if you can afford a bit extra, I would jump for AKL.

I would go for AKL, we stayed there this past July and I loved it. There weren't kids running amok and you have two great restaurants right in the hotel, plus the animals. Every night at 9p by one of the overlooks they have night vision goggles to view the animals. We were fortunate to have a savannah view room, so we spent a ton of time on our balcony watching the animals, it was fantastic, there is no other hotel like it, so I would definitely switch over. There is nothing all that special at SSR like there is at AKL.
