Airfare Prices?

Hello all. It's been a long time since we've travelled to Orlando mid-summer (we usually go end of August) and we are going July 2nd- 9th (Saturday to Saturday). We are open to date changes up to two days, which would shorten our trip, just to get cheaper airfare. (For example it's way cheaper to fly on Monday the 4th of July which is fine by us if we have to do that)
I keep getting emails from Frontier (and companies alike) for cheap airfare for March- $49 each way.
Currently, I am looking at around $300 per person, round trip for the dates of our July getaway and that's not including baggage!!
Does anyone know if the prices will go down as we get closer to the summer months? I don't know what airfare prices were like last summer, so I am not sure what to expect. Also, gas is cheaper this year too. I don't want to book $300+ pp airfare...

Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

It really depends on the airline. I just read a study that said that 54 days out was the perfect time to buy domestic airfare. However, I typically fly JetBlue, which always releases the lowest fares first and they only go up after that, so for me, it's generally the earlier, the better to book flights.

I'd say if it's $300 now and an airline is offering you $100 roundtrip, you ought to jump on it! :)

Sorry, I don't think I was clear... The discounts that I am getting are for flying the month of March... not this summer. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting these kinds of emails for the summer months in the past.

And trust me... If it was $100 round trip I would have booked it in a heartbeat.

March and mid July are two different animals. (Hence disney going to a tiered ticket system!).

I would definitely try to research summer flights for the past 2 years and make a decision.

By the way, those $49 frontier tickets should be for select flights and certain days. I don't know if I've seen a $49 Saturday flight.

Holiday week travel is always going to be more. Like others have said, research past prices to compare and also the full July calendar. I see dates in June that are quite a bit lower but towards the end of the month they go up and after July 13, they go back down. It's an exhausting task, buying airfare.

March, April are typical school and college vacation time frames and as such the prices will be higher then other times.

For instance, The Boston has April vacation the week of April 18th and as such the price of airline tickets went up (way up)

JetBlue has always been really good about giving me credits if/when my flight fare has gone down after I've already purchased. If you purchase early from a company that offers credits for situations like this (United does as well but it must be a minimum of $50...and even when that happens, their call centers are awful and it took a DM to the person who runs their twitter to get my credit sent to me), it's not immediate cash back but it's something you can take into consideration for a future trip! Just be aware that these credits expire after some time

Although a $50 one-way ticket sounds appealing, your experience will probably be worth that much. I've only heard really really unfortunate things about Frontier.

Duly noted. Thanks.

It certainly is. My husband says to book no earlier than 6 weeks out from time of travel... Like I said, we are flexible so hopefully that helps with pricing.

We fly every spring break so, yep, high season. $$$$$. Not necessarily a Disney trip but always to MCO. I start stalking airfare as soon as the dates go on sale and when I see a fluke low rate, I grab it and have never bought airfare for SB less than 9 months out. Honest to God, I continue to stalk it to see if I can get a price adjustment and never, not once, after many trips has it ever gone down, it's just gone up, up, up. Maybe comes down a bit but never down to what I paid. The closer you get to high seasons or holidays the more it goes up. Also, the seats get scarce and while you may get 2 seats, you can't sit together. As a family, we aren't willing to take that risk. If you find flights and times you want with seats together, you should probably consider it.

That seems risky to me, I've only seen prices increase as you get closer to your date and booking a month and half out seems rather close to me. I'm at the 6 week mark now, and all I see is higher priced flights and less choice

I think I might be wrong with my information. I did a little more digging and found this site
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/best-day-to-book-plane-ticket_us_56cf1648e4b03260bf759b79

While the researchers found that 54 days was indeed the magic number for booking on average, they’re quick to point out that this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule: your flight’s “best price” window depends a lot on the specific trip you’re taking.

And this site
https://www.cheapair.com/blog/travel-tips/when-to-buy-airline-tickets-based-on-1-5-billion-airfares/
Prices dropped gradually until 47 days out (the bottom) and after that they started to rise again slowly. Once inside of 14 days they shot up pretty significantly.

So it would seem you're husband is correct and I was not - my apologies.

My advice to you is to go directly on the website. We went on Expedia to look and would have ended up paying 300 each. But if you go directly on the website you'll see better pricing. We ended up spending about $130 a person for round trip! This was south west! I hopw you find a great deal!
