Airfare Prices?

Hello all. It's been a long time since we've travelled to Orlando mid-summer (we usually go end of August) and we are going July 2nd- 9th (Saturday to Saturday). We are open to date changes up to two days, which would shorten our trip, just to get cheaper airfare. (For example it's way cheaper to fly on Monday the 4th of July which is fine by us if we have to do that)
I keep getting emails from Frontier (and companies alike) for cheap airfare for March- $49 each way.
Currently, I am looking at around $300 per person, round trip for the dates of our July getaway and that's not including baggage!!
Does anyone know if the prices will go down as we get closer to the summer months? I don't know what airfare prices were like last summer, so I am not sure what to expect. Also, gas is cheaper this year too. I don't want to book $300+ pp airfare...

Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

We just booked for October on southwest.com. 4 adult "wanna get away" fares for around $940. Definitely check with them.

ETA: First two checked bags fly free per person as well, so that is also something to consider. Other airlines will charge a sometimes hefty fee.

We just booked for September a few weeks ago for around the same price for 4 adult "wanna get away" tickets. Two hours after I booked they went up in price!! I am convinced there is no real great time to buy airline tickets, when you see a good enough price grab them!!

Yeah...I missed out on both ways at $112 on the first day tickets were available. So decided just to grab it at $112 down and $152 back up since that $152 is Columbus day weekend. I don't think they'll discount that too much, but will keep looking for a price drop on both all the way up till then. Last fall I got them for cheaper...but think I can make up the difference by getting the rental car cheaper this time.

My wife and I live in Maine and we always fly Southwest out of Manchester N.H
we always buy are tickets the first day the date opens and have never found it to be cheaper at a later date, sometimes you will find one way less but the return will be more,we always fly non-stop and bags are free with southwest
we are flying in may and round trip was 200.00 per person, great deal I thought for a non-stop

As Grumpy06 said we fly from Dallas always on Southwest and the cheapest fairs are always as soon as they come out and I mean literaly as soon as they come out for example if they say fares came out on March 1 on March 1 at 2 am be on the computer. Last year we got round trip for $200 a person at 2am by 4 am the price had doubled.

Where are you flying out of? We are out of Seattle and aren't finding anything less than $2200 for the 4 of us for our trip in October!! We usually fly Alaska, American, or Delta for the miles but maybe I need to check out Southwest again (swore we'd never fly them again but that's a good deal!!)

Sorry, I don't think I was clear... The discounts that I am getting are for flying the month of March... not this summer. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting these kinds of emails for the summer months in the past.

Same here, I always fly SW out of Long Island and I buy them the day they are released (6 months out) and that is when they are the cheapest. They only get higher and higher as time goes on and get sold out as well. I would not wait. Personally I never see flights getting lower as it gets closer, quite the opposite, they just get more expensive.

Our family is driving to WDW in September and husband is flying in several days later.
We snagged him a mid week one way flight on Jet Blue for $60.28 with tax! If you know your
travel dates I think its wise to book it then and there.

My sister works for AA so we fly on her passes sometimes down there, so we have to fly on off days flying standby. But we book flights through southwest down there quite a bit as well. My advice it to almost check daily with southwest, bc sometimes there prices will drop for no reason. My wife and I have flown down there for less than $350 total doing that.

Just watch out for the fees!! Allegient will get you for $20-50 for each checked bag, $10+ for a carry on roller, $5 for your boarding pass, $2+ for beverage service, Credit card surcharge of 3.25% or $8 (whichever is less) for each way, and the list goes on and on.

It's so frustrating flying to Orlando from Philly (where i live) because the airlines I typically like to use, United and JetBlue, don't fly direct. Southwest is fine, there's only a few planes a day that fly direct. I grew up on Long Island where the only commercial airline was Southwest so I've flown with them enough to last me a lifetime but they may be your cheapest option, for sure.

It looks like through Southwest, your cheapest option would be to fly in on Monday the 4th and fly out Sunday the 10th which would be just under $300 round trip for one person. AA is waaaaaay expensive, I wouldn't even look at them.

Thanks bud for the information. I did already pay for a check bag and a carry on just to be safe. You are right though about adding up the prices of baggage and your cost of flight to make sure you are saving the must money. It's horrible that flights are that high.

Another thing I found out about 2 weeks ago is that not only does Sam's sell WDW gift cards at a discount but they also sell Southwest gift cards at a discount!! In store its the same $150 for $142.98. Online its not quite as good of a deal at $200 for $192.98.
