Advice/Warnings/Tips regarding POP

Calling all POP people! Have you any tips or suggestions or (Heaven forbid) warnings regarding staying at POP?

I have figured out that we most likely need some kind of white noise machine or a fan (we would probably use anyway, as we tend to sleep with the ceiling fans on and are used to some kind of constant noise).

I'm also prepared for POP to be busy as our visit falls during the free dining promotion (or at least as mentally prepared as I can be for such a thing).

What else do you think I should be aware of and/or prepared for?

Disney seems to provide SO many wonderful resorts and we so wanted to try CB or, I think the other was FQ (I was so digging the beaches and laid back atmosphere at CB... DH was digging the other resort :)).

Circumstances being what they are, we felt like our best bet was to go with a value. I'm REALLY hoping DH enjoys himself so much that this will only be the first of many trips and we will have the opportunity to try some other resorts in the future. Afraid he's not much of a amusement park person, so I'm hoping the 'magic' makes all the difference!

Thanks in advance for all the great advice and suggestions!! :D

That is very interesting. I tip $1 a day and there was only 1 of me. Every where else I have read says that values give shampoo/conditioner in 1 and no lotion. Good to know I should have received this.

We used stayed at Pop about 4 times between 2007 and 2008. We also only received the shampoo and conditioner in one when we stayed there. Maybe things have changed since then and they now have a seperate shampoo and conditioner?

OP- Pop is great and I think you will really like it there. We never had an issue however my in laws did. They ended up in a room smack dab in the middle of a party traveling together. These people hung out outside of their room that night and kept my in laws up. In the moring there was beer bottles and cigarettes outside of my in laws door. They explained the situation to the front desk and the CM was extremely helpful and understanding. They ended up moving my in laws to another room and they loved the rest of their stay at Pop! We can't always control the people around us when we are on vacation but it is good to know that the staff will work with you if there is a problem. Enjoy your vacation

WOW disneygirl76, You really have a bad review.. I have not heard such complaining before as yours on POP. YES it is nasty with the smoking right there but we encountered the same thing outside AKL smokers are rude and care not where they stand signs do not mean them. Itg is not noisy like that at most times. You must have gotten a bottom floor room and had huge group staying there. the food is the same price everywhere for resorts. Its all too high for what you get but we are picky eaters and found nothing wrong with that either. on the other hand BOMA is bad and I am not the only one who thinks 35.00 for a plate of nasty is outrageous. But this is our opinion. Really you will be fine moonspinner you are not going during summer months or heavy traffic months. Also never stay lon bottom floor you will get that everywhere.

I think moonspinner said it the best - that when you save and save and plan and plan - you get bummed out when it is not up to par. And I think with Disney, the standards are higher. I rarely have negative or bad things to say about Disney and try and give a fair perspective when I do the reviews. Mostly, because what I like might be different then what other people like. So I tried not to be nasty and slam the Pop. But that was my overall experience. And yes, the food all over WDW is pricey but everywhere else I didn't mind paying. I am usually not disappointed with the counter service food, but this was particularly poor.

Moonspinner - you will have a great trip.

I love staying at Pop Century and it is my favorite value resort. I usually stay in a standard room in the 70's or 50's rooms. Sometimes I request a room by hour glass lake. I love being by the lake but may have to walk a little farther. I haven't really felt that I am too far out. Another thing you may want to try in the food court is Mom's Night Out meals. (I think it is called that) They are t.v. dinners served in trays like back in the day. They have different meals served on different days. They have a sign that tells what is served on what day. The fried chicken is my favorite meal they have at Pop.

I also have never found lotion in my room but have had shampoo and conditioner.

Have a great stay and enjoy walking around looking at all they have! It really is a nice resort and hope you will have a great experience on your entire trip!

disneyrcks, I'm really glad to know that someone can personally account for the staff doing what they can to make a guest's stay a happy one. :)

The Mom's Night Out meals sound perfect for DH (he loves some fried chicken).

We absolutely love POP. I love walking around and looking at all the icons. When my daughter was younger, I would make her pose by all of them. Now that she is 14 she may fight me haha I tried the buttermilk fried chicken and it was awesome. The food court is huge and there is outdoor seating. They do fun stuff at night around the pool. There are plenty of food choices. There was this sandwich there that was so good. And of course I can't remember the name but it had turkey on foccia bread. I believe they had it in the parks too. It is soooo yummy. We never saw any bugs and believe me I look. I hate bugs. You will have a blast!!

Mutka-In 2008 we did not have separate shampoo and conditioner. And no lotion either.

POP i awesome. You are just sleeping there. If your family is like mine, 70% of your day is spent in the parks. We go to the room to shower, change clothes, and sleep. That's it. Save the money and spend it in the parks and on Disneyesque excursions.

Request the building with the view of spaceship earth. (I don't remember what building it was.) The desk clerk will know what building it is and it is not a preferred building, either.

Mukta, I've noticed your profile pic before and can't figure out what it is? Is this a place at WDW or Disneyland? Just curious.

It is a place in WDW. I am the girl in the tank top on the left. I am feeding the fish in the Land pavilion in Epcot. I was able to do so during the 'Behind the Seeds Tour'.

I'm agreeing with what people have written here. We stayed here once when funds were tight only to find out that we like it a LOT! We've stayed at Saratoga and also Caribbean before and like Pop better than the others. A word of caution though, unless you like pool noise late at night, I would get a room on the opposite side of the building. I've found the rooms to be very quite (I'm a very light sleeper). We liked Pop so much, in fact, that when we had a choice of resorts, we choose to come back because we like:
The lay out
Dedicated bus/resort transportation
Amenities
Food choices and shopping
Over all general location

Good luck!

Not sure what more I can add, but I will say this.

We LOVE staying down in the 80's or 90's buildings. It's quiet down there and we just cut through the parking lot to get to the busses.
