hi everyone,
My fiance and I are booking a disney cruise in march of '09 for our honeymoon (had to do it the disney way since that's where he proposed). Neither of us have stayed at the hotels offered for the land and sea packages. So any advice you can give concerning a choice between the french quarter, riverside, and the carribean beach would be appreciated.
Thanks :D

Since you are going on a cruise, eliminate the CBR. You will already see that theme.

Between POR and POFQ, it's a toss up.
I like POR for the landscaping. Others like POFQ because it is more compact.

Tks.

You will always see me promoting POFQ to other posters. It's one of our favorite resorts. Though, if the trip I was planning was my HONEYMOON, I'd go with POR. For that trip, the importance of a nice ambiance outweighs that of the other benefits you get with POFQ.
*tries to forget I ever admitted that!*

We honeymooned at POFQ and had a great time. It was very quiet and the boat to and from DTD was a plus. We're actually going back for an anniversary trip in Oct. and can't wait!

Did I mention that we are checking into the FRENCH QUARTER on MAY 4th???? I'll give you a written review then. CAN YOU TELL THAT I'M A LITTLE EXCITED? We plan to hit the Riverside food court, too, along with the Wilderness Lodge [home sweet home] food court. Have a great time with you're choosing.

POFQ is very quaint and cozy and special to us. It's the first on property DH and I stayed at together. POR was not as intimate, but pretty as well.

Another member of this site just returned from POFQ and didn't really enjoy it.

There were some issues Disney certainly should have fixed during his stay, but other things like the quality of the rooms overall, air conditioning style, etc.. are part of all the rooms at that resort.

I'm in the group that says not to goto Carribbean Beach. My experiene has been that hardcore Disney fans like it and rave about it - but 9 out of 10 times when they send a less-Disney-hardcore friend or family member to it that they don't enjoy it.

Riverside isn't a bad choice, at least if you stay in Magnolia Bend which you cant really guarantee - they might put you in alligator bayou but you can always request magnolia bend. There is a big difference in the rooms in terms of theme between the two areas and many people feel Magnolia Bend feels like a resort while Alligator Bayou resembles roughing it (rustic furniture and style).

You don't seem to have considered Coronado Springs - which hould be in the same price range as these other resorts. Did you just not like it or was it not offered? If not, you should consider it. It's a nice resort and since it's also a convention resort it's a bit more high tech and updated then the other 3 resorts. More of an adult resort too - has a nightclub even. You might consider that since it's a honeymoon.

I want to say Coronado has king bed and king bed suites, which the others dont have (the suites) or have in lesser quantities (the king beds). Not positive though. A standard at Disney is two double or two queens depending on the resort - so if you want a king bed you need to find a room that has it. I know Coronado does, not sure about the others, but i suspect they have some too.

I'd recommend Riverside myself. I know lots of people love POFQ, and I've nothing against it. But I find the grounds of POR more romantic, scenic, great for long walks if the weather is accommodating. Also, unlike POFQ, there are a series of smaller "quiet pools." I'd suggest asking for a room close to one. And finally, if you decide to call it an early night, but you'd like to still have a sitdown meal before going back to the room for some shut eye (wink wink nudge nudge say no more squire), Riverside has Boatwright's restaurant, whereas POFQ has...a walk over to Riverside and Boatwright's.

A Disney Cruise Land and Sea vacation only uses the moderate resorts of Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs is not included.

They would need to book the land and sea separately to be able to choose Coronado Springs.

All moderate resorts have King Bed rooms as a separate paid category, unlike the values and the deluxes.

For a couple, perhaps POFQ.
Our family of 5 has stayed at POR & are planning to stay there again in Sept. 2008.
We enjoyed POR.

We honeymooned at POR and LOVED IT!!! Although the resort is large, certain areas will be a walk. However we stayed in Oak Manor and it wasn't a long walk. It was maybe 3 minutes to our room. But the scenery and landscaping is AMAZING. We rented a boat and went out for about an hour. We never got to do a carriage ride, but I would highly recommend doing one. The resort is so romantic at night :) It was very relaxing as well. My vote goes to Riverside :) (Though I have never stayed at FQ so I really can't vote otherwise)

Port Orleans Riverside

Stay at Port Orleans Riverside. My husband and I have stayed there over 5 times and love it! You can take the boat to Downtown Disney and the pool is right in the middle and at night they have a guy up in the bar that sings while playing the piano. Very entertaining.

I love CBR. I stayed there in 1990 and again in 2005. [I also love POFQ, by the way.]

To me, the fact that it's spread out is a plus ... it never feels crowded. The lush tropical landscaping is nice, as are the hammocks on each village's beach. I think it has a very romantic feel.

The rooms at CBR are slightly larger than at the Port Orleans resorts -- 340 sq. ft. versus 314 sq. ft. That size difference is roughly the equivalent to the area of two double beds.

I mean, to each's own, everyone has their own opinion, but some of the slams against CBR in this thread have just been out of proportion. "9 out of 10 non-Disney fanatics hate it?" Puh-leeze. Really?? 90 percent??? And it's just an All Stars resort in disguise? Well sure, if CBR had 260 sq. ft. rooms, had no fridge in the room, had no ceiling fan in the room, had no sit-down restaurant, had only one sink in the room, had uncovered bus stops, had only one bus stop that everyone had to walk far to, and had a lot more concrete and a lot less grass and other plantings ... then sure, it would be just like a Value resort.:ROFLOL:
