Adventurland Veranda Open!

I agree that opening up this place and The Diamond Horseshoe permanently just makes sense. I have never been to Disney when all of the restaurants were not swamped and I can not beleive that with the prices they charge for food that they are not making a profit. It does not make sense that all of these restaurants used to be open and now when you attract more visitors and larger crowds you close them for much of the year? Sometimes I think they forget that it makes a bad "show" to have empty or closed buildings all over the place. Like the Odyssey. I don't care if they use it for conventions it is just bad show to have a place that centrally located not open all the time.

I agree on both counts. Diamond Horseshoe was a great show and leaves a big gap as far as mealtime entertainment. Odyssey has been closes so long I don't remember it even being open. Its so prominent in FW that it sticks out even more than having Diamond closed.

I have a specific question about the Veranda, if anyone can answer it. Does anyone who what music is being played at the restaurant, if any at all? I have a friend who is really into Disney theme park music and very interested in the area music for the restaurant. They are curious if it is the old "Moonlight Time" tracks, new tracks, or the generic Adventureland?

Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks!

I was at MK today and it was closed. The park was packed too. I was actually sort of surprised too since I was at the very least looking forward to getting to walk through the place. I thought it was interesting though since Steve said it was open until the 10th. Either way, something should really be done to make this place open full time. Something should really be done to a lot of these restaurants that serve as crowd eaters to have them open more often. Either get rid of them or keep them open, but don't waste the space by having them sit there for the majority of the year with nothing.

I was there on April 3, it opened around 11:30... It was open for lunch for the most part... Not sure about dinner as I left around 4:00...

We ate here on Thursday and it was very good. My youngest daughter had the tuna crossaint. My oldest daughter and I both had the carved turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo dressing. My husband had the hot beef sandwich. I asked the CM working, he said it was usually only opened at Christmas and Easter. Other times it was used for CM's. Not sure if he was right or not. But it was a nice break from burgers and fries. It was nice being able to eat without being pushed, shoved or huddled over by a family waiting for a seat. I noticed lots of people using CS dining credits. They had a full menu available..drinks, desserts, sides, etc. Wish it was opened year round.

Has WDW just completely given up on food provided/prepared by themselves? It would seem that unless a restaurant has a tie in with a famous person or outside company, they haven't refurbed or rebuilt any eatery in like forever. In fact, about the only thing we have seen with any WDW run food venues are the shortening of menu selections and the removal of characters. Where is the "plussing" that WDW is famous for?

When it comes to food at MK or AK, its embarrassing the world's #1 travel destination has almost no ability to feed people on anything but a tray. AK tried to fix the obvious shortage of eateries by providing "bag lunches" under the auspice that it would be a "picnic in the park". The fanbois on this site embarrassingly ate it up as great idea about as much so as the Apple sheep thinking a $500 magazine reader is a great idea! :ROFLOL: I just paid $70 to get into AK and they offer me a bag lunch?? REALLY???? This isn't 6 Flags, its DISNEY...right?? MK is just full of counter service and the best sit down they had, Liberty Tree, they TOOK AWAY the characters. The food is good, but its Stouffer's quality (they do sponsor it!) for $30/person!

Then they changed the stools and experimented with this seating thing where you can't grab a table and instead have to be directed to one at the counter service eateries. Once again, here is WDW readily acknowledging the fact they can't feed people in a timely fashion because they don't have enough places. Yeah, people come in and sit down to get out of the sun, but that is not the core of the problem, its just helping it. After all Cosmic Rays is the 2nd busiest restaurant on Earth, but there still isn't enough eating capacity at MK.

Its obvious to the ongoing changes to the DDP that they aren't making enough margin on food. Therefore, they certainly aren't going to sink money into the restaurants they have now. We will just continue to see these temporary cafeteria quality food joints open up during peak time and then go right back to over capacity, no ability to get an ADR, and needing to plan on a meal outside of MK/AK if you want anything decent. Although I will say the Yak/Yeti was a welcome addition to AK, but even that is run by a non-Disney company and is $16 for a plate of lo mein you could get at any take out place for $4. Or you can feel free to be even more gouged by Rainforest where I distinctly remember getting 3 drinks and nachos for $45! I know you are paying resort prices and everything is higher, but the Rainforest and T-Rex (owned by same companies) are insane!!

Wow. You're so RIGHT and CORRECT, I wish I could print this and post it on every office at Team Disney. With very few exceptions, the food quality at MK and DAK is terrible, to the point that I leave the MK to eat lunch at a monorail resort, and I skip eating at DAK altogether. And the Landry's contracts (Yak/Yeti, Rainforest, T-Rex) have given us bland food at price points high enough to make Disney rates look good. Did I mention that the Sentinel named Yak & Yeti the worst sit-down restaurant at WDW?

The Fantasyland Expansion should address some of the dining issues at the MK; but since the Adventureland Veranda, El Pirata Y El Perico, and Tomorrowland Terrace are generally closed, how do we know the FXP restaurants will actually stay open like they're supposed to? And the front of the park needs more dining options just as much as the back corner!

When it comes to Counter Service, Main Street basically has Casey's. Tomorrowland has Cosmic Ray's. Frontierland boasts Pecos Bill's, Liberty Square has the Columbia Harbor House, and Fantasyland has Pinocchio's. That's it—for a park that regularly hosts 40,000 Guests on any given day.

Wow...I never really thought about it, but you're right...that is WAY too few...and too few different, unique options for all of them as well. Cosmic Rays: Chicken and Burgers Pecos Bills: Burgers CHH: Fish and Chicken Casey's: Hot dogs Pinocchio: Pizza...great variety... Sure, a few of them have some different offerings, but for the main part, that's all you get. Makes you kinda sad that that's all they offer.

Edit: I do like some of the offerings found at this park though...the clam chowder at CHH and I found a new love for the corn dog nuggets at Casey's...but not everyone is a burger kind of person...actually, I tend to avoid burgers for the most part, only eating them every few months, if that. I do feel a bit alienated though in my choices at the MK...I don't particularly care for sandwiches either...so that knocks out a lot of the choices at the MK. And I know if I feel that way, others have to as well. Just wanted to clarify there a bit. :)

I never really thought about that way either! And to be honest I have a hard finding something to eat in the MK. I'm not fuss for the chicken at Cosmic Ray's, I'm not a burger girl, I have a shellfish allergy and can only eat the salad at CHH, and there's only so many times you can eat pizza! So, there's my choices!

Why are so many restaurants temporary in the MK? It seems to me the MK could do with more CS even in so called "slow" times. Everywhere you go it's packed all the time!

I've never been inside there and never really knew it existed! Looks nice according to the pictures!

I have to agree with you, it'd be nice to have a change... We go almost yearly during the low season January to February, and in the MK there aren't too many CS places, and you are right, the ones that are open are packed.... I like Cosmic Rays, don't get me wrong, we almost always eat there, but it'd be nice to have an Adventureland option...
