Adventureland Veranda open for the Holidays!

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet, but I happened to be meandering through Adventureland yesterday, and saw that lo and behold, the doors were open and the Veranda was serving lunch!

It was just sandwiches, chips, and fruit, so obviously they weren't using the kitchen, but it was cool to be able to set food inside a building that has been shuttered for years. They had a sign out front calling it "Adventureland Refreshments", and there were CMs with menus showing the offerings. The format was that you stopped at a register near the entrance, placed your order, then picked up your food at various counter stations.

There were tables inside for guests to eat at, but the place was pretty empty when I happened by.

I posted some pics over at my blog: http://www.parkeology.com/2009/12/adventureland-veranda-uncovered.html

Yeah it would be awesome to go in there and just walk around. I don't think it has ever been open when I have been there.

Not old, just vintage.
I am always amused when they half-open these former locations during busy times. I was just in this spot 2 weeks ago for MVMCP. It is one of the hot chocolate and cookie locations. You can't tell from the pics, but in person it is really obvious that they never use this restaurant. There is a very thick layer of dust and cobwebs on those multi-colored lights going across the room. Also, the fake plants and chandelier could use some love from a Swiffer duster.

Yea I agree, tho I don't think I've ever been in there, or even know where it is. Can someone shed some light on where exactly this is?

You know after you stop to get your Dole Whip and you keep walking further into Adventureland towards the Tree House and such and there's this WALL of facades with little 2nd floor "windows" and a little patio area? That was the Adventureland Veranda.

Does anyone have pictures of the outside so I can better place where this is? And, does anyone have pictures from when this place was actually open---it looks pretty cool in there!

Thanks for the pictures--and that's an awesome blog you've got there--can't wait to read more!

Ahh, I can imagine. I noticed from the pics quite a few of those multi-colored lights are out as well. Still, neat to see it open to guests again (even if it is brief).

I saw this too. I was enjoying a Citrus Swirl when they opened the door. It was just a bunch of little huts set up across from the meet and greet stations they have in there now. I did see a few, very few, tables in the far back.

It actually wrapped around Aloha Isle. IIRC, the entrance was to the right of AI, where the Stitch M&G usually is. Now I've got a craving for a teriyaki burger.:slurp:

They`ve been doing this the past few years around major holiday times along with Diamond Horseshoe and sometimes El Pirata. You know, the places that always used to be open?

Got a shock around Halloween 2007 when they were open. Hadn`t been inside since the 90's.

Heading for the great escape.
Shame it wasnt open Thanks Giving week, may have avoided some of those unsavoury incidents involving pitch battles to get somewhere to sit and eat.

For those looking for a peek inside the Veranda, DIY network's House Crashers did a segment there. The show is re-airing tonight at 10PM ET, 1AM tomorrow and Christmas Day at 1:30PM.

Merry Christmas everybody!:xmas:

Grrrrr---Along with not getting the Travel Channel, I also don't get DIY.

Thanks! I'm still not picturing where that building is. Is it right when you walk into Adventureland from the Hub, on your right? Or is it past the Tiki Room on your right? (or neither? lol)
