Good afternoon!

I am looking for ideas for dinner on our first night there. Since we won't be arriving until late afternoon after a red-eye flight and don't want to use a park ticket that day, where could we have dinner that we would still feel "the magic". Maybe castle view and fireworks, or a character dinner....

We have 6 of us, Mom, Dad, Me, Dh, and 2 DS's, 11 and 3.

Thanks for your help!

What about dinner at Chef Mickey's? Then you can watch the fireworks from the Contemporay. We like to watch them from the dock....you can't see the castle, but the fireworks look cool over space mountain. They play the Wishes music outside, and there are not very many people around. You could also watch the Electric Water Pageant, and you could ride the monorail for fun.

I would think any of the resorts on the monorail for dinner would be a good first night meal. All have views of the fireworks/EWP. Just check the menus and choose one that suits your tastes!

Thanks for the responses.

We are staying at Pop Century, are using Disney transit, and are arriving Apr 30, 08.

I think the resort-restaurant-on-the-monorail advice is best; you can take a bus from your resort to the Magic Kingdom, and then hop the Resort Monorail to the Polynesian, Contemporary or Grand Floridian. You will NOT have to enter the Magic Kingdom to do that; the monorail entrance is outside the park, so you won't be using a day on your passes to do that.

Have a great trip!

Ohana, at the Polynesian, can be alot of fun for the kids too, in addition to being one of the resorts where you can see the fireworks.

Eat at Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge and then catch a launch over to the contemporary dock or the Poly to watch the fireworks.

Try Chef Mickey's or The California Grill at the Contemporary Resort.
Chef Mickey's has characters (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald & Pluto) - that would be a great way to begin a WDW trip! :D

Thanks everyone.

Chef Mickey's it is! Then a monorail ride to the Polynesian to watch the fireworks from the beach I think....

Or can we watch them from the monorail platform at MK and then run to our bus stop before it gets busy?

How many days are your tickets for right now? If you already have a 4 day ticket or longer, you'll find it's usually about 2 bucks a person or so to add an extra day!

I know nothing of Chef Mickey's closing, but I think there is a restaraunt closing at the Contemporary called the Concourse Steakhouse, if I remember correctly.

We ate at Chef Mickey's on our first day back in April as well. Like you, we didn't step foot inside any theme parks that day and, looking back at it, I think that Chef Mickey's was a good way to begin the vacation. We got to take a ride on the monorail, hear the spiel, and see the Magic Kingdom, and that pretty well sets the Disney mood right there, IMO.

Depending on how worn out your gang is from traveling that day, you could always head over to Downtown Disney to walk around and do some "window shopping"! :lookaroun

A late arrival for us sometimes means dinner at Raglan Road or Portobellos, follwed by the biggest ice cream we can handle at Ghirardelli's! :slurp: We get into the Disney spirit by walking around the stores and getting psyched up for the next morning at the Magic Kingdom!

Another option is heading over to the Boardwalk area for dinner and watching the Epcot fireworks from there. After that, you could still squeeze in a round of Disney MiniGolf before bed!

HAVE FUN!!!

We done many different things. We've done Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon, Yachtsman Steakhouse and we've also headed straight for Downtown Disney after check-in for a quick bite and some window shopping. All of these helped get the Disney feeling without using a park day. On our next trip we are going to try Ohana for our first night.

I'm not sure what your budget is...you can try eating at CG at CR, or eat at AP at WL, then take a horse carriage ride, and afterwards watch the EWP.

I definately think that if you can get it, Chef Mickey's is fun.

I personally like Ohana's for fireworks viewing since they pipe the music from the parks into the restaurant and if you have a table near the wall you have a perfect view of the show. The beach at the Poly is also another fine option. Plus with the good food and in-restaurant entertainment, you can't go wrong with Ohana's.

But don't feel like you have to pack everything into the park that night. It might be a good time to pass on the fireworks (since presumably you will be heading to see them another night) and try one of the other out of park restaurants. Most people don't even try some of the best ones around.

If you want an alternate option for non-fireworks, you can always try my favorite - Boma's at the Animal Kingdom. It's got a great low-key environiment with some seriously amazing food. Plus afterwards you can head outside for some animal viewing.

"but Marcus.... animal viewing at night?!?!" you say!

indeed, for guests they do animal viewing with night vision goggles from 9-11pm each night (weather permitting) out on the back decks of the lodge. It's a definate treat.

But whatever you choose: make sure to have an amazing time, but it's Disney so I'm sure you will!

Enjoy,
Marcus

We are doing a combo of the above--Dinner at Boma and then off to DTD for the shopping/atmosphere. DD will need to run some of her energy off after being on a plane anyway, so why not? In our case, MK has MVMCP the night we arrive and we want MK to be the first park she experiences, so we are choosing to wait until morning to hit the parks.
