Adios Galaxy Palace Theatre!

As well...A fond farewell to former Galaxy shows...

-Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas
-Galaxy Search
-Disney World is Your World
-Disneymania!
-Thousands of Magic Music Days Student Groups' Performances
-One of the ORIGINAL Night of Joy Stages

Galaxy Palace, although one of Disney's more nasty and old stages to work as a tech...was an amazing theater. It represents (represented) the good 'ole days when the Magic Kingdom had REAL, live entertainment. It will now join the dust, dirty, and/or memories of:

-Mickey's Starland Stage
-Tomorrowland Stage
-Fantasyland Theatre
-Frontierland Stunt Show Rooftops
-Fantasy Faire Stage (Fantasyland Pavilion Stage)

And other dead stages such as:

-Diamond Horseshoe
-Adventureland Stage
-Tomorrowland Terrace (Cosmic Rays)

My word...where has all of that entertainment gone? It's not like Disney isn't the world's leader in entertainment. Oh wait...

Rest in Peace Galaxy Palace (Tomorrowland Stage). May you still be remembered by children young and old for countless performances and memories that will last Walt Disney World guests a lifetime.

Chalk one up for Jim Hill, who was the only online source to reveal this news back in November. (If it does actually become a parking lot, that is.)

In response to the theater windows on TTA, they have already been covered up as of Sunday when I rode, and have circular TTA logo stickers over them now.

As much as it would be funny to watch more greedy managers be able to park in that lot...

I don't see it becoming a parking lot. If one has ever been in that parking lot, it kinda sits back in the corner. They wouldn't be able to get too many parking spots out of it. As it was, backing up trucks to the stage for loadins and strikes wasn't always the easiest of tasks.

And not to mention outdoor foods sits literally feet away...there can't be too much vehicle traffic, as that place is hopping with busy little cast members all day long. I would see that more of a hazard to them, turning part of their prep area into a parking lot.

Now if the Disney Story Theater or the Tomorrowland Pavilion (Laugh Floor) wasn't there, sure, they'd be able to get a good amount of parking spots. Galaxy isn't that big as it is.

But that's my opinion.

My other personal opinion for them tearing it down...

It's been grandfathered in for YEARS as a temperary stage. Yes, it was never a permanent structure in Reedy Creeks eyes. The amount of money to make continuous repairs on the facility has grown immensely. It's also some of the oldest gear in that facility. To remount a NEW show in there, would mean having to replace LOTS of equipment to bring it up to today's standards. Some of that could even affect the building codes that have been grandfathered in for years as well.

The only safe show to do in that theater was Mickey's Twas. Because Disney knew they could do that without affecting building codes. BUT...

Disney doesn't want to do Twas anymore. Because they are trying to cut their overhead...and entertainment is NON-revenue generating. They need another good excuse to cut that show...consider the following:

(1) The just stop doing the show. The value of the Mickey's VMCP Ticket instantly goes down (even though they will keep it the same OR raise it...just watch)...and the guests freak out and complain.

(2) They tear down the theater and use that as an excuse. They tell the guests that it was taken out for something else later on down the road. The guests accept that answer because they think they'll get something else. The guests forget about the show, and nothing goes in that space for years. PR-HAPPY boys and girls!!

Think logically...it's Disney :)

...Most satisfied guests through the gate for the littlest value.

THEY WILL NOT...I repeat...WILL NOT...replace Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas...except perhaps with a small cheap variety act. And in their eyes, they just saved themselves hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars over the next couple years. But your ticket will cost the same.

Not being negative, that's just the way it is...and will be.

I would assume to hide the parking they will just cover up the windows that look in and wall up the area somehow so you can't see it. Disney isn't going to be sloppy and just put a parking lot in guest view right in the middle of tomorrowland.

Why not? They put a DVC building in plain sight - bad show indeed. I know in the past guests could easily see the parking lot with the trailer for T-Land managers, etc behind the stage. But it sounds like they have already done the smart thing and covered up the windows.

I think the last time i stepped into the theater must have been back in the 80's. I remember sitting there but not sure what it was for.

I may not be thinking straight but how will this affect the WDW Railroad? Doesn't the railroad pass behind the theater? If so, does that mean Disney will now allow you to see CM parking?? Just a thought...

Nah, the railroad doesn't run by the theater.

I could be wrong but there already is parking behind the theater...and it's within the tracks. In other words, you can't see that parking now (unless you're looking for it)...so more parking would also be unseen.

Random responses to points in this thread (all IMHO)

You can already see the parking lot from the train along with a lot of other backstge stuff unfortunately.

Yes there is a new E-Ticket planned..........someday.

You won't be able to see the new area (except on the train).

The stage itself is not that big but the stage and seating is, so it should add quite a bit of parking and that should help with the logistics of the Space Mountain refurb as they reconfigure the parking lot.

....it's all connected.

But how long do we have to wait???

It won't be before the SM refurb is complete and the SGE/TETRUNM reconfig happens. Also Monters Inc. at DHS. Imagination and Energy at FW and something new to CMM at AK is my guess.

So I am thinking.........a loooooooong time :snore:

New turn in the thread... There are plans to do something at Stitch?? A new attraction or a re-work of the current attraction to make it good??

Ohh e-ticket attraction in the future or.... WALL-E's PLAYGROUND???
lol, why do i picture all the SM junk drug across TL into that space for extra themeing. Throw in some large people floating on lounge chairs and viola, we have a playground that resemble Pooh's Playspot.
