HakunaMatata (is that correct?), I am offended by your comment. It's not very nice to judge. I have rarely posted for fear of criticism, now I have learned my lesson. If you knew me you would know that I am not a negative person. But those who pre-judge will never know. Thanks for your opinion.

I don't understand this reasoning. Why would it matter? It's not as if any of the Cast Members in World Showcase speak their native language (except for English) as their primary language anyway. At least not while they're working. :zipit:

Please dont take it personally, I was being sarcastic. Generally, whenever I post lately, there has been a certain forum member that accuses me of being negative, so I was just following my normal form.....

AND south america isnt a continent is like a division of america:
canada and US are is north america
mexico, honduras, nicaragua, panana, etc, etc etc.. are in middle america
and venezuela, brazil, argentina, colombia, ecuador, blah, blah blah are in SOUTH america

but America (the CONTINENT) goes from CANADA to Argentina

Still bitter you all lost them (or in some cases gave them away)?

I think Antartica needs some representation....:p

I do agree with Spanish food not being the best, I crave American food daily. And with the bull fighting, I don't agree with that either. Though the Spanish will argue the positives of it.

I don't like bullfighting either, but the Spanish food I've had was delicious. My aunt and uncle lived there for a while and they loved it. It's been over 25 years and they still speak very fondly of Spain and its culture. I would love to visit someday. :)

Why? Nothing like seal blubber and fish heads washed down with a nice chilled beer.

I think this is very unfair! Those are spanish traditions and almost every culture will have some type of different tradition and do things which in American's eyes are off!
We should embrace all cultures and learn from them. I was born and raised in the United States but my grandparents are from Spain. I take offense to being categorized with every other hispanic community. There are so many different hispanic countries with wonderful traditions and people need to educate themselves and be more open to different cultures.
My comment wasn't to insult. I can't agree more with acceptance and understanding of different cultures. But that doesn't mean one has to agree. As for embracing all cultures, sorry, there are some I will never embrace, and I don't mean the Spanish culture. I think it would be nice to add a country or two that offers a total uniqueness. Some may find some cultures resemble others. Let's not get to overly sensitive here. :D

I have a good idea. How about Liechtenstein. I'm sure Disney could find room for a Liechtenstein pavilion...

Total uniqueness?

Where will you find that?

Western countries have been influenced by their mother countries....as has Australia...and some others...

Greece? Totally unique? Nope...Italy, France and Spain, have similar cultures/traditions, vistas, architecture, people etc....

Its kinda like China and Japan...they are separate and have their own languages, traditions etc, but historically they are linked...China has had a definite influence on Japan...

Germany and Norway are similar too, and in no way totally unique...

So then why another country and NOT Spain?

Exactly why Spain should not be included - the killing of defenceless tomatoes is not a sport
Now, what about the Greeks (and a Greek Pavillion) - surely from a historical point of view - they have more to offer than most other nations ?

Well, if you want to go that route why not go all the way back to the cradle of civilization: Iraq?

Two things:

First, just to clear up some statements. The Spain pavilion was originally planned where Norway is now (if memory serves), but more recently was moved between the Outpost and Germany. The facade installed for F&W 2002 was meant as a somewhat close representation of the permanent facade (obviously much more scaled down). Talks were going very well at that point, and even the Sentinel printed stories about the first country in 13 years to come to WS. I believe Eyes & Ears also had a story in October. Then the talks stalled. The Outpost spot has been (and I guess still is) reserved for Equatorial Africa. This was an original pavilion included in all of the original models. However, with Animal Kingdom's focus, insiders have speculated this may end the chance of that pavilion coming to be. So, I would argue it is on the backburner in another kitchen!

Second, while representation is important, a HUGE part of a WS pavilion is sponsoring from the country. They have to pay a decent chunk of change every year, supply students from their country to work, and provide a creative team to work with WDI in designing the pavilion. Many countries simply aren't interested in this. I personally would love to see Brazil, Chile, Australia or New Zealand, India, or any number of countries that are well known but not well understood. I think Spain fits into that category as well. However, that would all come down to $$$. With tourism still not incredibly high, this is not that likely. That is another reason Eurpoe is more heavily represented because people travel from there to Disney World AND VICE VERSA! They are advertisements no matter how you cut it. Hopefully we will see something new soon, but it is not as simple as deciding to build a new attraction in FW or another park.

Resume discussion!

Sure, Greece has a rich ancient history...but after Rome took over....Italy, which has similar ties to the ancient world doesn't take advantage of that part of their history...

Many arguments can be made for Spain under this category of "history"....

One of which is of great importance...

Christopher Columbus sailed under the flag of the Spanish crown; after this Spain would go on to form a massive empire across the Atlantic and around to other parts of the world; with their conquests they soon became the richest country in the world. Add to that their powerful navy...etc etc etc...

Spanish history is interesting...from being part of the Roman Empire, to being invaded by the Moors, there are many things to use when forming a pavilion.

All that being said, I would like to see both a Spanish and Greek pavilion (perhaps a Brazilian pavilion before a Greek though).

Just my opinion. :D
