Well I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment on how good it was, but everyone I've spoken to says it's alot more Romeo and Juliet-esque than it is Free the Gays-esque

Well maybe they should have been writing the articles and reviews :)

Hah!! I saw this coming a mile away. The writing was on the wall for Brokeback when Crash won the award at SAG. Hello???? SAG is the group made up of all the actors. So if the majority of actors in SAG voted for Crash, guess who had the lead when it came time to count the Oscar ballots? It's not rocket science. I told everyone I knew Brokeback wouldn't win and Crash would pull it off. And I was right...as usual!!:D :lookaroun

I didn't bother watching the Oscars...was Jon Stewart any good? I hope so.

And James needs no help from me. He is DEFINITELY our movie expert.

The Oscars are back. The most entertaining awards show I've seen in a while. They were funnier and more entertaining than the crappy MTV Movie Awards nowadays (they used to be good, but now they are almost a joke).

Actually I find all the awards shows kinda boring. Even the music ones. It seems like there's an awards show for every freaking thing now. And it's all just a bunch of hype. Like the 'ol NWA song says, "Don't Believe The Hype." Still the crop of pics up this year were pretty good....even if I haven't seen a single one.:lookaroun

BTW, I was very happy to see my favorite film of last year King Kong take home 3 Oscars. I would have loved to see a Best Picture nomination, but I'll take 3 statues.

The Good: Jon Stewart, Fake Ads for Best Actress, the first half of George Clooney's Acceptance Speech, Reese Witherspoon's Acceptance Speech, Salma Hayek (hott!), and Abby Mallard's Rant About Pantsless Cartoon Ducks.

The Bad: That Huge Bow on Charlize Theron's Shoulder, All Three Song Nominees, The Excessive Montage Sequences.

The Ugly: Dolly Parton's Awful Plastic Surgery, Lauren Bacall Losing Her Place on the Teleprompter.

Wow, "Crash" wins. Big upset!

Actually, I'm happy about this. I really liked Crash, moreso than I enjoyed Brokeback.

All in all, good show. Giamatti got snubbed, but what else is new? Really happy about Hoffman. His performance in Capote was absolutely flawless.

As for Sith, it didn't win anything because it frankly wasn't that good.

Best part == the best actress advertisements. Hilarious.

I saw this movie 3 times last summer and remember thinking what a shame it was that it wasn't getting more attention. I'm so glad it won. I didn't see any of the other BP noms, but Crash was EASILY the best movie I saw all year...maybe the best in several years. :)

I enjoyed the show, especially George Clooney's acceptance speech and pretty much everything Jon Stewart did. My major disappointment was there was no mention of Don Knotts and Darrin McGavin. Even if they didn't have time to re-do the memoriam montage, someone could have said their names afterwards!

Brokeback won the appropriate awards: the soundtrack was crucial to the film, and the directing was flawless. The acting was superb, but better acting was done by the winners. Heath, Jake and Michelle were not very well known before the movie, and are household names now. That's worth more than an Oscar. They'll have many more chances to win awards. Crash spoke more to the times - it was a movie for 2005, and captured the moment better than any other film this year. Not that other movies didn't impact and reflect the culture, but Crash did it better.

And if we are rating films as to whether or not they made you cry, The Family Stone would be my #1 film of the year, followed closely by Crash. TransAmerica made me cry. Brokeback only made me cry when I heard the music again a few weeks after seeing the film.

Me too. King Kong got snubbed in the nominations, but atleast it didn't get snubbed in that actual awards! Although, I would've liked to see War of the Worlds take home the oscar for sound, because quite simply, the sounds were amazing. I still can't get enough of the laser beam sounds and the loud tripod calls.
