ABC/Lost/Disney Question..........

First off, let me start by saying HOLY CRAP THE PREMIER OF LOST WAS AMAZING. Of course, I didn't expect anything less. :)

Second, can someone PLEASE explain to me why the HELL Disney was not done ANYTHING with Lost in the parks!!!!

I mean Jesus, they can make an entire attraction around a show that is on a completely different network. So why can they not, AT THE VERY LEAST, make a Lost gift shop?????

Lost is a VERY high profile, highly rated network show. They have a VEEEEEEEERY loyal fan base. The kind of loyal fans that the people in the Disney merchandise department dream about at night. So please explain to me why we don't have SOMETHING in the parks about this amazing show.

And before you Lost bashers start in on this amazing show, please acknowledge the fact that the Lost brand is strong. They have MILLIONS of viewers per episode, and Disney is stupid for not cashing in on this.

I mean hell, they are milking the princess line for every cent its worth. Can they not do anything for Lost?

BTW

PLEASE!

There are people here who may not have had a chance to see the premier of Lost yet, so for the love of god......

NO SPOILERS PLEASE.

Be respectful of those who haven't seen it yet, ok?

How exactly would Disney do anything in the parks using Lost? What would you suggest that they do?

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the series, which I admit I no longer watch but my DH does, however your comment about respect for others caught my attention given the language you used in expressing yourself.

Actually, I was referring to spoiling the premier for those who have not seen it.

While it's not an entire gift shop devoted to it, there was a lot of Lost merchandise in the AFI gift shop after the Backlot Tour that last time I went on it... T-shirts, action figures, models of the (closed) hatch with the characters standing on it...

While not a LOST basher, I for one cannot stand the show.

However. I do realize there is a massive fan base.

But......

What sort of attraction would you build, while I don't like the show, I have seen a few episodes, and i am not really sure what you could do as an attraction. I mean I loved Seinfield when it was on, and that was a VERY highly watched show, but aside from a soup shop and a diner, what else springs to mind with that show.

and

LOST will be ending. Thats a fact. I forget when, 2 or 3 years. The Sopranos was a huge hit, but once it ended, not many people remained rabid fans.

I agree with Dave. Even though Lost has a fuge following (i'm included!) I don't think you can expect to see some sort of huge investment in an attraction or adventure based on Lost with the show coming to an end soon. Most likely Lost will just end up as one of those great shows we remember but we'll all move on in a couple years to something that has taken it's place.

Now MAYBE if they eventually create a 2nd installment of Lost in a couple years (either in a movie or another TV show) that also sees the success of the first series...then MAYBE will we see some sort of Lost presence....but I think we'll need to see if get to some calliber of Star Wars or Star Trek or the Simpsons before Disney does something with the series. It has fans right now...but will it see a devoted following when the first series comes to an end? That's the question!

Anyway...I'll be watching last night's premiere tonight so I hope it's as good as the OP said!

YES! I could not agree with you more. My husband and I are "Losties" if you will  and I am always so surprised there isn't LOST stuff around the parks, even if it was just T-Shirts. They have merchandise of some of the stupidest s**t but nothing about one of their most popular shows!

I love LOST and I'm completely obsessed. BUT... Disney realizes that while it has a huge fan base, it is not a widely appreciated show. Many don't get it or don't watch it. Others started watching but gave up when they didn't understand or didn't think it was for them.

LOST aired in the number 10 spot which is not bad, its just not a overwhelming number that would warrant an attraction. I know, I know, American Idol is in the studios but think for a moment how many of us are "meh" about it. Some like it, some don't.

On the boards people have made concepts of Discovery Island being turned into the island from LOST and while it would be really cool, it would never happen. It's just not that big in the general publics mind.

Oh, nevermind. That said, I don't really know what would work as an attraction. I don't want to see a ride based on it, but something like what they've done with Narnia would be fun. You enter into a Dharma initiative base or something and see a show based on it or something like that.

Making any attraction based on a TV show that requires the viewer watch every episode is not going to work. We already see how American Idol is doing....

You could argue the same about Twilight Zone as while it was once a popular show, its more about how great the attraction is.

Picture it like Dinosaur:
I could easily see the line-up looking like an airport and then you enter a crashed plane and then onto a VW dharma bus.

You casually drive around the beach with Sawyer calling random people funny names like 'hey Jumbotron' or 'freckles' and see some of the cool secondary characters.

Suddenly, you go into the jungle a bit and your engine gives out and you hear the 'spooky' whispers. The whispers get louder and you hear 'the monster!' Luckily the engine starts up again and you zoom through the jungle this way and that while running into characters screaming 'run this way, lets hide in the hatch!'

The Bus drives through the backdoor of the first hatch and you see the clock reach zero and that wonky stuff starts happening...quickly you race out from the hatch and through the jungle again.

While driving through the jungle you see 'the smoke monster' chasing you and catching up and suddenly you make it to the 'others' suberb. Things slow down a bit and you see Ben and Juliet talking about the losties. When they notice you they start firing at the bus and you tear off into the jungle.

While rounding a corner you run into face to face with the Smoke monster, who reflects you into his smoke. as he gets ready to strike Hurley comes out and says somethign really funny and the bus drives through this tunnel that takes you back to LA.

Thats just one idea, I'm sure you could come up with tons and tons of rides that would be super fun to ride.

I could totally see how they could make a Lost ride!

You could go in the attraction house and sit for 45-50 minutes, then just when something exciting is going to happen...the lights come on and it's over!

Sorry, couldn't resist! :ROFLOL:

I like that, sounds doable. Yeah, it wouldn't be hard at all to do a LOST ride, I just don't know if WDI would actually do it.

I think a full-blown ride would be risky, since LOST is a work in progress...constantly adding new settings and characters and doing away with or changing the understanding of others. Anything you set in stone through a story-driven attraction could become outmoded as the show advances its own narrative.

I think some merchandise or a behind the scenes type walkthrough should be the extent of its presence.

Yup, either that, or you would go through an entire ride, and at the end you would have 10000 questions and absolutely no answers.

Sorry, but I can't stand the show. Now if we could get a Scrubs attraction...I'd be okay with it.:D

Scrubs attraction?!?!?! I love scrubs! how would you do it as an attraction?
