Here its done in the 9th grade and you have to spend an entire day at a retreat...maybe thats the class he took. I made mine in 7th grade, but that was waaaaaay back in the 60's and I went to Catholic school so there was no special class because we had religion class everyday.
I did mine I think a year or two after my first communion  I was in Catholic school at the time so perhaps that's why.

Strange that around here it's always 5th or 6th grade... or 5th and 6th grade, in some cases...

Each diocese gets to pick when they want to make it and it also depends on when the bishop is available. It may also differe from country to country.

They kept pushing us back because kids weren't coming back for the classes and they were losing money. I made my communion in like 2nd grade with a class of like 1000 kids (all from public school). I was confirmed 7 years later with a class of 100, 25 of which had gone to the private catholic schools in the area.

I had to jump thru a ton of hoops to get confirmed too. 34 hours of community service, retreat, extra classes, letters to the pope, a huge essay.

I don't think I had to do much... but I kind of wish they would push it back until the person was old enough to choose for themselves...

There were less than 75 of us. :lookaroun

Yeah but you go to a private school right? I dont. I would go to religion classes one night a week every week for 9 years.

The other 25 kids went to the Catholic school in the area and they just did that last half year with us. That would be like you guys, just one class.

A huggle is a virtual hug. A (((HUG))) indicates a stronger emotion (as if you were sorry something bad/serious happened).

Well... it was the other way around for us; we only had a few CCD kids and mostly our class.

We have one Catholic K-8 so its only ever like 20-30 kids that get confirmed from there. The CCD classes are normally like 15-20 kids per class and there are like 9 classes. The last few years the numbers when down drastically though.

We have a lot of Catholic schools around here...
Mine was especially small though, we had less than 250 kids for first through eighth grade.

Most of the smaller Catholic schools here have been closed and folded into the larger ones. There is only one Catholic HS in the entire county and a lot of kids will go out of state to the one that is close by in NJ.

You see the public school system here (outside of NYC area) is very strong and most will go there as they have to pay school taxes anyway.
When I was growing up in NYC we went to Catholic school because the public school system was (and still is) a very inadequate one.

I think that's the reasoning behind all the Cathloic schools in my area.

On a side note: You grew up in New Your City?
