There's been persistent rumors that they have a deal for Star Trek theme park rights.

Classic iconic Trek that's based on timeless characters played definitively by the original actors telling original stories, or JJ 'trek' based on desecrating those characters, lens flares, bad retelling of stories that have already have had definitive versions with definitive actors, lens flares, and more lens flares?...

I remember awhile back there was talk of an Oz land, complete with a shortened version of Broadway's Wicked. Still seems like a viable idea to me.

EDIT: Also, don't Universal and Dreamworks share a parent company now? It seems like Uni could do a lot with that franchise beyond just the Shrek 3D movie. That alone could probably fill its own park.

The funny thing with the future park and having DreamWorks is that Universal could build there own castle park now with The Kingdom of Far, Far Away

Depends on who the rumored deal is with. If it's w/ CBS, then we get ST Prime. If it's w/ Paramount, then we get JJ Trek. I believe I saw art work for a ST attraction at an overseas park and it was clearly JJ Trek, so I wouldn't surprised if that's what it will be (if it even happens).

I still say Jurassic World is the best option for a third gate at Universal Orlando:

- It would be different than the existing two parks by focusing on one franchise
- It could compete directly with Animal Kingdom, SeaWorld etc without potential backlash from animal rights groups
- It would free up space for expansion at IoA
- It offers more educational opportunties than the other Universal parks
- It's practically already designed thanks to the crew behind Jurassic World
-
The successful reboot/relaunch of the franchise proves it has some staying power
- Kids will always love dinosaurs
- Monorails or boats connecting the park to the rest of the resort could be themed directly too it

My point is that Universal does its thing very well and Disney can still do their thing very well as proven by the recent Mystic Manor.

There are different expectations for each of them. One keeps to them, the other has drifted.
A "thing" is a pointless limitation on creativity and excuse for repetition. Both are themed experiences and their only "thing" should be storytelling, not artificial silos of only doing certain things.

i think that's very generous praise of universal and a complete slap in the face to Disney. Kong was extremely underwhelming and it looks like they are doing two similar ride styles in jimmy Fallon and fast and furious but with way worse ips. Universal is very repetitive in what they do. That's why Nintendo land has me intrigued because the rides from the leaks we have seen are new and different.

I get the sarcasm but the immersive environment would be inside the ship. Obviously.

When I was a kid, a park near me installed this playground equipment. This was the holy grail of playground equipment in the mid '70's.

And you keep trying to turn this into a Disney-Universal thing when that is not at all relevant.

This is not a knock against @Mike S at all. This is a systemic issue. It's impossible for people to discuss Universal without benchmarking it against Disney, constantly.

It's aggravating and a lame crutch to not face the very different and real issues each company faces, that frankly have nothing to do with one another. Universal is still treated with kids gloves by its fan community. It is no longer an underserved-underdog that is immune from proper critique, expectations and criticism.

That's actually a compliment to Universal that it very much deserves to be held to a higher standard.

Only F&F is that way and I'm not looking forward to it for that very reason. Fallon I still don't know exactly what it is except it may be like Soarin'. I just hope it's entertaining and funny.

We'll just have to disagree on Kong like we always have.

From the looks of it they're meeting a high standard with future projects (Fast & Furious notwithstanding).

I just don't expect them to do something like EPCOT Center or Animal Kingdom. I don't expect Disney to build brand new parks like those either sadly enough.

Dracula's Castle actually sounds like a cool subversion technique to create a sort of an anti-castle park with rides like Bald Mountain.

You do know they also have some other very iconic location based landmarks they could use aka The Paris Opera House for two of their classic monster films both titled Phantom of The Opera and produced 5 versions of Phantom of the Opera. Kinda makes it an obvious choice.

I wonder what Nintendo land would be like during HHN...

I'm thinking a Ghost House or Luigi's Mansion.
I wish they'd do something for Luigi's Mansion, though tbh I think they'd only do one of those carnival trailer haunted houses with a few TVs playing Three Caballaros-style loops of Luigi getting spooked.
