Will Smith to star in Dumbo. Kinda shocked for once Burton isn't going with Depp.

Getting flashbacks to a certain Dreamworks film that we don't speak of.

Who in blue blazes thought a live action 'Dumbo' would be a good idea? I can't stand Tim Burton or any of his "work", and I still haven't forgiven Will Smith for forcing his no-talent son into multiple movies, so this is an automatic dud in my book.
Are you calling Nightmare Before Christmas terrible...even though he didn't direct it?

No, I just didn't like it.

I did forget that the first two 'Batman' movies were directed by Burton. I liked the first one, and the second one was very so-so, saved by Danny DeVito (who has an uncanny knack for not being in a bad film). Beyond that, I'm really not a fan of Burton. Never have been, and probably never will be.

Okay, I was hoping that the Dumbo remake was cancelled or something.
Apparently not.
:grumpy:
It's like the 'live action Lion King' idea that is/was being thrown around. Nobody wants that.

Look, I like Will Smith, I really do, I just want him to be in a good movie again. And this isn't the movie to kickstart that comeback.

Yikes! That sounds like a recipe for disaster!

Just the other day while watching previews before the movie Sully I mentioned to my dh that apparently I am an ageist when it comes to Hollywood. Ads came on from the likes of Smith/ Affleck etc. I felt bad but still though these actors had their day and they are done... Time for fresh new faces. Then we watched the movie Sully with Tom Hanks and I had to retract my statement. Then again there are the classics like Tom/ Harrison etc. Apparently talent plays into that equation, guess it does not help that a lot of the actors from the 90's were not that great of actors to begin with.

It's all about making the right choices with films. Will Smith was one of the best things about Suicide Squad... and that movie was awful. I think Ben Affleck was actually pretty good in Gone Girl (I feel like I like that book/film more than the average person).

Yes
CGI animals, live-action backgrounds/environments. Think Jungle Book remake.
The jungle book remake had primarily cgi environments too. Basically the kid was the only really "Live action" part of the movie. The new Lion King is a cartoon. Just done with a realistic art direction (similar looking to Jungle Book).

Even if it uses live action backgrounds it is still a cartoon because Dinosaur used live action backgrounds and that is considered an animated movie.
