You are forgetting the novelty factor, After Avatar the 3D tech was no longer new, And let's face it the Biolumenescent Forest was worth the price of admission (but only in 3D), - The movies you describe well at best they were what the movie industry used to call b-movies...

These were all released before Avatar.

The "Local Scourge" is WHY Disneyland has retained much of the traditional 'Disney' quality.

I was part of the local scourge for 15 years. But that was in the 90's/early 2000's and those people weren't really an issue back then. Rising up and crying over losing MSEP or Country Bears isn't keeping it traditional. Disney didn't care then, and they don't care now. They only care to address locals now because they're negatively affecting the resorts ability to function even during off-peak periods. Of course, they catered to these locals for the last 20+ years by offering discounts, perks, and ridiculously low priced Annual Passes. Now those chickens have come home to roost and it's time for a new business model. Glad it's finally being addressed.

My types back then are now the hoards that choke the place for hours every evening now- most of which aren't buying anything or riding anything (though I've always dined and ridden attractions- even to the chagrin of other more "social" people in my group). Back in my day, socialization at Disneyland was a very limited affair though- it wasn't affecting the park. At this point, the place is over-run. Disneyland is hitting max capacity on Sundays in February because of one thing- and they're actively trying to combat that problem now and I applaud them for it.

If anyone thinks that the hardcore Disney locals at DLR are benecificial- I challenge you to find a good spot for Paint the Night or MSEP less than 3 hours in advance. Same went for Fantasmic before they added fastpass to stop the locals over there. Visit the park on a Sunday afternoon and deal with the social clubs and tell me it's a good thing.

We didn't wait 3 hrs for Paint the Night in 2015, and our spots were just fine. There wasn't a nighttime parade on our last trip, but we also had no issues finding a good spot for the Christmas Fantasy parade in Town Square in the afternoon...we pretty much walked in to main street as the parade was starting back at small world, and we found a good spot right in town square pretty easily. This was (IIRC) a Friday afternoon (of a runDisney weekend). We were in the parks on Sunday afternoon on both trips (2015/2016) and didn't feel it was much different than the rest of the weekend (obviously there was a big difference between Wed/Thurs and Sat/Sun, but that was expected). Both years we were there on the opening weekend of the holiday season (w/runDisney events). It was definitely crowded, but not so terribly that it was pointless to be in the park.

We had no issues with F! back in 2009/2010/2011 (and definitely didn't wait hours for it either), but we did appreciate having the dinner package in 2015 since we had a stroller with us then (DD's first trip).

Maybe we're the exception, I'll grant that. I do know that lining up for parades has been an issue...it's just not been one that's affected us personally.

Ah, the ad hominem attack when you don't like what someone says, classy.

Of the hundreds of posts of yours that I've read, no I don't care for most of them. Incessantly theorizing about how Disney is out to get visitors, their shareholders, and pretty much everyone else with their greedy power hungry out of touch destruction of Walt Disney's perfect little company and theme park. Usually a complete distortion of the facts, combined with snark and attitude, mixed with a frivolous accusation that has nothing to do with reality. At least others of similar ilk mix those things with equal parts relevant information and a decent tabloid story- but you won't even give us the pleasure of those entertaining facets! ;)

I'm glad you haven't had to deal with this issue, but it is/was common. Did you attend during blockouts by any chance? Disneyland's "off days" are now the days when AP's are blocked out. When they're not, it's usually all hands on deck peak season operations. During my last several visits over the past few years, our most pleasant days were the Saturdays when blockouts were in effect. Queues for attractions and the pre-parade line ups were all significantly smaller than the other days. Some of these visits were in the middle of Summer, where Thursdays and Fridays resulted in overflowing food locations, fastpasses selling out before noon, and queue reaching 90+ minutes on the big rides. On Saturday though, everything besides Space Mountain was under an hour. We lined up for PTN at 6 PM for an 8:30 performance (if I remember correctly) and we didn't even get a spectacular seat. Again, on Saturday, we were parked on a perfect bench with a castle view at 7PM. The worst was parking. I made the mistake of heading for Mickey and Friends the day were arrived at the resort and spent nearly an hour being re-routed to Paradise Pier's parking and then to Garden Walk. The next day we parked in Toy Story without issue, and then on Saturday we were actually directed from Toy Story to Mickey and Friends because Toy Story wasn't supposed to open till later since it was a blockout day and the parking wasn't needed.

Either way though, it's clearly a problem that Disney is working to address. Fantasmic and World of Color are fastpass for the singular reason of preventing locals from clogging up the areas hours in advance. Now they're trying (and failing) to try and stop people from lining up more than an hour before parades, because (not kidding), people were staking out benches shortly after 12PM for a 7PM show. Locals are actively fighting the new rules, and Disney being the customer oriented business that they are is letting them win. There are outright shouting matches when people are asked to not set a blanket down on Main St at 6 PM for a 9 PM show.

There's a reason they took parking off of the cheaper passes and have scaled back the available options while skyrocketing the price. They've figured out that Annual Passes are either way too good of a deal (even at $600-1000) or that even at the high prices they simply tax the resort infrastructure too much. I think it's a lot of both actually.

I don't believe they were block out dates. One day we had a photo session on Saturday this year with a local photographer who had an AP..they were able to enter the park. The DisUnplugged Disneyland team was also in the parks the same weekend we were there the past 2 years, and they have APs.

It was definitely crowded, don't get me wrong...but fastpasses weren't sold out by noon and we were still able to navigate the park well and enjoy ourselves. Maybe we didn't feel it (in part) because of how we planned our days...knowing the weekend would be more crowded and we'd be more tired (doing RD events on both Sat and Sun morning)...so we made sure to get a lot of the rides done during the week so we could concentrate on shows (where we could sit and rest our tired running feet :)) and such over the weekend. We still did rides on Sat/Sun, but since we'd already done most rides at least once between Wed-Friday, we were OK with taking our time.

As I said, I do know that it happens and that it was a problem (especially during PTN's roll out), but we didn't find it to be such a widespread problem that we couldn't find *any* decent spot to watch the parade from without waiting 3 hours. These past 2 trips were with my mom and dad joining us, and waiting is definitely NOT something my dad would do for 3 hours. I want to say I think we found our PTN spot about 30 mins before the parade was to start, but that's been over a year now so I don't remember the exact timing. It wasn't much more than that, though, if at all.

Anyone I ever tell that I have never seen Avatar always react in pure shock, and go on about how it's so amazing... So I honestly do think the GP remember, and loved the film.

i think people liked it, but I don't see the lasting love for it either. I will freely admit this is just anecdotal and nothing more, but no one I know is a huge fan of the movie. They enjoyed it at the time, sure, but there's little interest (if any) in the sequels. I don't think this has the same lasting audience as, say, Star Wars (or even Star Trek) does.

I think people will enjoy the land if it's as well done and immersive as it's purported to be, but I don't expect the Avatar franchise itself to be extremely popular. I don't see the merchandise, for example, selling the way Disney or SW merchandise sells.
