A Spirited Perfect Ten

I just see no way the park has half of the absurd 25 million figure that Disney has been slipping out to people writing basically PR. If they get half that, then the park will be off to a roaring success.

It is absurd, so much so that the only way I can rationalize it is some fine print or a misquote that's been propagated.

No rational person in corporate could think not only aiming, but publicizing they will have a whole 7 million extra people (in the first year of its existence) over MK is sound? Sure the actual infrastructure is being designed to eventually handle that, but with the amount of day one capacity?

I sure hope they have another 5 people eaters open with that extra 800 million......

Again in my Mom's area, about 6 months ago, they brought in such a person as a location manager and I asked my Mom what this person thought about how the culture was, and my Mom said she was flabbergasted. But even though they are supposedly in a somewhat power position, they don't have "real" power. The location managers do what the area managers want, who do what they need to make numbers. Locations don't have the power to say, "my CM's are going to shadow for 2 weeks or whatever," that's all decided "WDW globally." This person was brought in because the previous one was "forced out" for butting heads with the boss, who thinks all of this is fine. And now, the other similar managers are transferring as fast as they can, because of how all of that went down. They hope they end up in the pockets that still have good structures (I hear Animal Kingdom quite a bit as one of those places) or just bounce around, trying the best they can.

Yeah, its all numbers and politics. Thats what Disney allowed to cultivate and mature in the past ten years.

They need to root that out, starting with middle management. Streamline and weed out the unnecessary VPs and work your way down. Gotta clean house.

I've heard that DAK is by far the place to be if you're not a political animal or a numbers weasel.

When they are at the parks as guests, they are guests. This means they are free to act like fools provided it's within park rules. You may not agree with it but they are not held to a higher standard when they are not on the clock.
And you are training CM's?

Whether on the clock or off the clock, if you are at your place of employment, you act professionally.

One possible theory someone proposed in one of these threads is that the 25M may include both gate clicks and visitors to the shopping/dining area outside the park. Referring to all "visitors" of the complex whether they paid to get in or not.

It's interesting watching how Universal introduces their TM's over Disney. I'm sure Universal isn't really that much better, but it's enough. We've seen a new server shadow an experienced server during the course of our meal; just expected to watch. And we've seen a new register trainee, pulled when the traffic rose above a certain level, and it was needed to keep the transaction time low. Meanwhile at Disney, we saw a newbie CM, honestly, I think we were her first guests ever, supposed to serve us food at Pop Century's food court, while the trainer was explaining something to the two other trainee on the other side of the station. This poor girl is looking at us with a complete deer in the headlights look, and it took a couple minutes before the trainee even looked over to help. To add insult to injury, she was obviously part of an international program, and her English was not very strong, and seemed not to even understand what "chicken & dumplings" were. There were no other CM's in the area to jump in, as the line grew behind us. I felt so bad for her. What Disney expects of these new CM's is not right. They are put in a position to fail. And it wouldn't surprise me if the "good" ones just up and quit. They KNOW they can do better than this, so Disney is left with a lot of people that just don't have better employment options, or don't give a darn.
This may just be anecdotal, but I haven't seen the better training at Universal result in better service. Even with flaws I still think Disney has better customer service.

That does sound like the type of statement that would allow a Burbank spin later when attendance in the park is much less. I tend to buy the China posted numbers. I think they know the locals better.

No. You are held to a higher standard when off the clock. I believe in one of your previous posts you may have mentioned that you are a "former" Cast Member? If so...I am pleased.

We look at things like transaction times, "hustle," ability to answer questions. Our experience with TM's have never made us question whether that TM KNEW the details of their job. Maybe they aren't always so sugary sweet and smiling. But also anecdotal, they have seemed more proficient and efficient in their tasks.

For example, on my last trip to AK, I bought some mystery pin boxes, a few single pins and a Sven Christmas ornament. The CM was going to put them in a bag together without wrapping the Sven in anything to protect it from breakage. That's a basic retail skill.

So about trader Sams is there a drink list with prices available to view? And do you get to keep all the glasses or just a few select drinks that you get to keep the glassware?

I don't know the prices but the one in California offered drinks without the glasses. I even think you get a clean glass if you buy one.

A few months ago I got my wife a $40 drink in vegas at the sugar factory, it didn't come with the glass :)

i saw a tweet about the Nautilus Glass with beer being around $40 even if its bud light. Im sure it would be some special collector edition glass if its that expensive, or they could have been joking.

Apparently I can't say a person's twitter handle here so I'll just say a user on twitter is trolling the people waiting today by taking his glass from the trader Sams in California and walking by the people lined up. I like the snark!
Oh man that must be torture for them lol.
