Didn't the Star Wars guy at WDI (trowbridge?) come from Universal? I think the petty "us vs them" stuff is more prominent in the fan community then amongst the actual employees. Plus, money talks. Disney P&R is about 7X the size of Universal based on revenue. It's a significantly larger operation which equals bigger paycheck. When it's your job you make a move based on the best opportunity. If a high ranking exec at Universal was offered the head of P&R job at Disney they'd most likely jump unless there were personal reasons.

Comcast is a larger organization than TWDC, Comcast tried to BUY TWDC at the end of the Pressler era and unlike Disney Comcast reinvests in their busnesses. Yes WDW P&R is bigger now but UNI is expanding in China/Japan and the ME

Disney has made a few decent poaches over the last several years, but the general trend for too long is top tier talent leave/avoiding Walt Disney Imagineering.

Thanks. He certainly seems like he would be qualified, but I doubt he's a candidate. The guy's been with Universal Studios Florida since the start. He's a little too old to be tempted by career growth.
Not if you would go from an exec with actual power to guide the creative process to a yes man to the yes man to "Lord Business".

It's a puppet show on steroids. I don't recommend anything, I'm inferring that it was a mistake to begin with.

No matter how many dollars they threw at this thing, it doesn't get a passing grade. I'm not saying amusement park rides are anything cerebral but like making movies there is an art to what you do with your money. That art translates to how good an attraction turns out. You see it from the outside and think "wow", you stand in line, you experience it in all its cringeworthy glory....even if you do go in for that kind of thing you feel cheated. You got a glorified meet and greet (it's not elaborate enough even to pass as a show)....but you were prepared from the outset for something greater.

Enchanted Tales is stuck between deviations. It's not an attraction...but it's so lavish that it kind of has to be. It cheats your expectations.
If it were just your opinion that counted I would agree with you. I have only seen You-Tube presentations of it and being a single, old man, the likelihood that I will ever see it is probably pretty small, so I have to rely on the opinions of others. However, the thing is that, individually we cannot give out passing or failing grades. The best we can do is say we like it personally or we don't. The overwhelming response to it when questioning the folks that it is targeted to, is that it is a very good, well liked attraction. They are really the only ones that count as long as it remains popular. When that stops happening, then we can evaluate whether or not it was a success overall. Movies have an art, but, the art is wasted unless people like it. For example, I know many people that love "Gone With The Wind" a classic old movie. I painfully sat through it once and "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damm, if I ever see it again in my lifetime. That doesn't mean that it wasn't artful or a success as a movie. My not liking it had no bearing on it as a work of art. The fact that many people did is what puts it in the category of a success.

What are everyone's thoughts on Joel Manby for head of P&R? Current CEO of Herschend family entertainment, has made an appearance on undercover boss, with what he has been doing for Dollywood and SDC I think he would be an excellent choice, those two parks have become absolutely incredible and are consistently being improved upon. I think it is highly highly unlikely but he really does seem to value guest experience.

I prefer examining percentages over raw numbers because they adjust for changes within the business itself, including how inflation has affected that specific business.

I also shy away from inflation calculators. At best, inflation calculators are questionable for the types of numbers we're looking at. At worst, they are downright wrong.

Disney doesn't particularly care how much the price of a gallon of milk has increased across the country since 2000. Instead, they care about how much the cost of their labor has increased in central Florida.

$2 billion in profits in 2000 is not the same as $2 billion in 2014. Similarly, $2 billion might be a great number in 2014. In 2028, it probably would be considered a terrible number. Without some adjustment, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

In 2000, Disney's Parks & Resorts generated $1.62 billion in operating income. In 2014, that number was $2.66 billion. "Wow," you say, "that's $1 billion more." Yeah, but over 14 years, that's a compound growth of only 3.6%. Sorry, but 3.6% annual growth for a business like Disney sucks. Financially, P&R was healthier in 2000 than it is in 2014, and this is reflected in my earlier post.

With all my disclaimers in place (;)), the following might sell Staggs' performance better:

To me this just shows that Staggs reaps the benefits of the P&R activity that was approved before he took over. Sure, he had a hand in it as CFO, but it can't be ignored.

DCA redux - 2010-2012
New Fantasyland - Late 2012-Mid 2014
Hong Kong Disneyland expansion: 2011-2013

Staggs' chimes in by changing meet and greets out for the Mine Train, but what else has he contributed to that growth?

Even though it is an elaborate meet and greet it is still a meet and greet. It is nice they went a different direction with it, but it is becoming a disturbing trend to see so many pop up in place of rides. It’s another example of Disney going the cheaper route.

M&Gs seem to also have some of the longest lines in the parks, especially for princesses and Ariel proving that there are an awful lot of guests willing to pay and sit in the long lines for the experience.

I won't and generally don't care about them but it is obvious to me that there is a very high demand for them. I don't see it as Disney going the cheap route, they are trying to satisfy unmet demand for them.

Snowballs chance in hell. Disney will not bring in somebody from the outside.

Ever had Comcast service, it is absolutely terrible for the most part? Their only saving grace is Universal Studios, they are widely considered one of the worst companies in the US for customer service. Stating they reinvest is completely laughable, they have been investing in their theme parks more than Disney but are barely reinvesting in their primary business.
