Elsa does not look all that Norwegian either, nor does Anna. That's 3d for you. Most of te characters fromCloudy or Despicable Me etc all look interchangeable as well to me.

French and German people have many distinguishing features of their own. The princesses looked almost like clones of each other with different clothing.

We are not going for photorealistic accuracy here, And personally I do not LIKE the 3D animation style I think it detracts from the story.

Agree, However the new 'Moana' artwork IF GENUINE, is not only the same style (which I can see as it's kind of a Disney animation signature if you will) but its the same CHARACTER with a different (tan) palette.

A pacific islander with nordic features is a bit much...
Which Moana art are you speaking of. The one I've seen compared to Elsa was a fan made piece of art.
I know that one picture leaked and was pulled, but I never saw it.

This we can agree on. One of my main problems with it is that to me, they all look the same (with slightly different clothing and hair colour etc) and this is going from company to company.

It's like nobody tries anymore.

And does every movie need to be CGI now?

There is after all a cottage industry based on tossing the race card in the US these days, So I'm not surprised saddened but not surprised.

Your examples

Merchant from Aladdin - If you have BEEN to the ME this guy looks like lots of guys in the local Souk or Bazzar
Jafar - He's just an evil wizard not the kind of guy you invite over (he looks a bit like Yensid if you ask me)
Sebastian - Sounds like a performer from any carribean steel drum band
Pocahontas - An idealized native american

I don't know whats Racist about these characters
I didn't say they WERE racist, I said Disney would be accused of racism. Sadly, large companies with targets on their backs often need to make decisions based on such things. I happen to agree with your assessment of each character but it's the world in which we live.

This bandwagon about harping over the same artistic style being used repeatedly for human characters is a bit old.

I get the feeling any female character, regardless of actual appearance, will now be referred to as the 'whatever ethnicity you wanna use' Elsa.
Of all the things to complain about with Disney...

I meant that as a very tongue-in-cheek response...did not mean to upset anyone. :)

Yes it is unfortunate the world in which we live, now people are monetizing accusations of racism, MLK is probably spinning in his grave this was NOT his dream.

NO every movie does NOT need to be CGI I think it takes away from a lot of movies these days.

So Queen Elsa gets a tan and hair dye and now she is Hispanic?

Looks more like Jasmine trying out some Esmeralda cosplay to me.

Spirited Musings:

Can you be a fan of theme parks ... Of Disney and UNI ... Can you like individual fans of the prior, but still feel dirty about being part of the fan community? Of the whole 'my self-worth as a member of the human species is tied to a BRAND, a cold heartless corporation' ...because that really is where I find myself.

I fundamentally can't understand how alleged 'fans' insist on defending every move that Da Man makes. It just isn't logical to see that, yet it has become so pervasive in the Lifestyler, Twitterverse, Everyone Has a podcast (if not say ... A brain or even a personality) era.

I made it a point to stay away from much of the discussion of DL's huge 60th announcement yesterday because everyone has an opinion or endless opinions and feels they need to share them with the world regardless of their value. No, I don't really care what every twit thinks of the paint job on Walt's tiny 'wittle castle.

I know that @BrianLo has been waiting for some HKDL news and I have it, I just haven't been given the OK to share it yet. Much like the MAJOR work coming to IOA that has nothing to do with a giant monkey (and that I haven't seen anywhere online). Yes, this is a hint to the folks who gave me the info that I'd really like to put it out there just to see the insanity ensue (because WDW fans will read huge things into that resort, all untrue, based upon both the HKDL and IOA news!) And sometimes it is fun to sit back, have a nice spicy Bloody Mary and watch the train wreck.

Speaking of which, I'm told that Jay Rasulo and Tom Staggs are putting forth brave faces that their chances of leading Disney aren't dead in the water. It's always nice to wish upon a star, but it isn't happening no matter what Iger wants, and how many stories get bought and planted.

Did I spy a Chez Remy history review on your site @WDWFigment? Did you hit every Disney park in the world in 2014? That places you in the top .0001% of Lifestylers, congrats! Spirited disclosure: I have never done more than four in a year.

I sorta missed Christmas this year, so I'm about to have my first candy cane (thanks, Suzanne!)

Do I care about the Super Bowl? About as much as ... Let me think ... I'll get back to ya.

Did Disney have any legit media in Anaheim last night or was it all bloggers, Lifestylers and podcasters?

Great to see Spirited pal Richard Sherman working for Disney again. I had heard he was working on something for them, but I honestly thought it was smaller than a song for the 60th.

American companies are so arrogant and so out of touch with their consumers. It isn't simply a Disney issue. ...On a not unrelated note, if you can travel on any airline not based in the USA, I highly advise doing so.

Bus wrap debates and excitement over Hub changes and sunglass shacks ....yes, there is nothing wrong or stale about WDW. It's all with out of touch fans who can't accept that WDW of 2015 wasn't better in 1975 or 1985 or 1995.

This tidbit from the recently released 2014 annual report should interest everyone:

I wish I could give you a glimpse of the amazing wonders we’re bringing to life for our guests – especially in our new park in Shanghai and expansion in Orlando -- but it’s simply too soon to share. All I can say right now is: prepare to be even more amazed.

What a tease. :D

Glad you pointed that out. Was a bit shocked that no one had mentioned it (even the Twits who are online 32 hours a day).

I think Bob will let Disney announce those plans about three years from now, one at a time, at giant multi-million dollar blogger parties that will come complete with that wonderful children's dessert: cupcakes!

You had me at "MAJOR work coming to IOA" :D It did seem like all the good stuff has been going to USF lately. Could this work at IOA possibly have anything to do with a certain movie coming this summer? ;)

.. but at least under the Singles and Doubles theory of studio production... none of those stinkers put the larger company at risk on their own. Unlike the 'need to make 800m to break even..' films they huddle the studio around now.

So so true.

What does it say about the flaws of that system, that model, that only recently did Big Hero 6 actually cross into the black?

Why not put out many smaller budget films? Oh, yeah, because Iger's ego won't allow that. Same reason why Agents of SHIELD hasn't been axed yet on ABC.

You can ask in all sorts of different ways, but I won't talk about it before I am allowed. But, oh, do I want to. This actually is paining me because the typical Disney fanbois will jump on it, as well as the HKDL news, and extrapolate that it means things are afoot at WDW. And WDW has nothing to do with what will be happening at either locale. But it won't matter one iota.
