I heard, and am not at all surprised, that Andy Castro is leaving Micechat. I think that's a shame for fans who wanted a weekly unvarnished look at the good, the bad and the ugly in Anaheim. But it's likely a very smart move on his part. You don't unervalue yourself or your talents in our society, even while doing something you enjoy.

It is sad to see what has become of that site with Al long gone, Andy on the way out and Norm barely there. There is nothing to go there for at all.

The 'Micechat' updates are so infrequent and behind the time on news that rarely do they come up with anything that hasn't already been reported elsewhere.

I don't want to hit a site when it is down, but much like LaughingPlace, it's day in the sun has come and gone and the fan community has moved on ... some of it is for the better ... but then there's that thing called 'Disney Twitter' ... where people borrow and steal, no one has any accountability and many present a false narrative.

I know.. they also projected awe and realism when it came to the castle. I never said anything about zero use of CGI.. I was speaking to the lack of scope and feel the the "video game" images shown in this teaser. Harry Potter is a great example of how the blending works... films like The Hobbit show the upper bounds of extreme CGI yet on the boundary (falls in the debatable land IMO)... but look at films like Jupiter Ascending to see how too much CGI cuts the film from having a feeling of scale and physical presence to simply being a canvas/environment people are acting in.

I think the point is that CGI is simply a tool in a filmmakers toolbox, And CGI should be seamless which in this case it's not. A scene should not scream CGI even though intellectually we KNOW it's CGI. Once again the 'Go Cheap' bug bit at Disney with the predictable results.

The Netflix deal was questioned heavily by financial analyists on the Earnings Call.

.... its almost as if Disney's meteoric rise in the stock over the past few years have Wall Street looking at the Mouse like an ATM..... or like Tormund looks at Brienne....

Or my cats sizing up the chipmunks in the garden as potential snacks if they could ONLY get to them...

The half-chicken meal at the Mara was always the best value on property, for around 11-12 bucks you got a meal that was the same price as what you'd pay at Boston Market. That was about a year ago, I haven't had a chance to check if it's still that same price, I doubt it though.

Yup. Still there and ...with mashed taters and green beans for $12.99 (but only served after 5 p.m.), so it likely went up $1-2 since you were there.

More likely looking at the disconnect between the businesses which are looking like the 'Going Out of Business' sales are set to start yet the stellar stock performance belies that. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Street finally figures out that Disney is pouring billions into share repurchases so the EPS looks better than it really is.

For those who say the information is out there yes, yes it is and has been but most so called analysts just look at the EPS number and as long as that's going UP well let's not look a gift horse in the mouth.

I thought the WDI backstory for Disney Springs was bad, but the new backstory for Soarin' at DCA has got to be the nadir of WDI "story" absurdity. It's on the official parks blog, if you're interested.

It's all about a group of aviation enthusiasts who "developed a sort of flying theater -- a hang-gliding simulator that brings the exhilarating experience of flying to all visitors."

So now that they've finally "themed" or "storied" the exposed ride system, maybe they can now explain that Brer Rabbit carved the logs in Splash Mountain so that visitors could ride through the briar patch, or a club of ironic Caribbean enthusiasts build boats and staged robotic pirate scenes to share their ironic enthusiasm with guests.

To think that Walt and the WED designers had the audacity to build a Matterhorn with bobsleds on a coaster track. I shudder to think how current WDI would have storied the heck out of that.
Actually, its funny you mention Splash Mountain because that does have an elaborate backstory that involves how the logs were made. To be honest, I think most of the backstories help add a sense of depth to the park's universe. Yeah, sometimes they're a bit over the top, but I think some like this one help add a little something. http://land.allears.net/blogs/jackspence/2010/07/splash_mountain_part_two.html

Actually I think Disney will just cut hours like most other places will, basically take their ball and go home.

Speaking of hours, and with summer just about to kick off, is it time for my annual post pointing out how WDW parks used to be open late nightly for ALL guests during summer ... how 11 p.m., midnight and 1 a.m. closings were normal and in parks that weren't named MK? And someone comes in and points out one year they were there and MK closed at 9 or 10 p.m in June etc etc? And then we argue and fun is had by all ...

Nah. No time nor energy for it.

Sorry to quote you on an unrelated topic, but how do you feel about Dinosaur going down for 3 months? Do you think there will be any kind of attempt to return the ride to form (and I don't mean the countdown form, I'm sure that is dead forever). This will leave Everest as the ride without a refurb since pretty much everything else has been done in the last couple years. With that begin said, if Everset does go down, Disney would almost have to address the Yeti in some way, right??

Didn't know about the Dino closure until I read it here. One would like to believe that Disney will fix what is wrong with it when it is closed, but past experience says to be cautious on that front. As for the Yeti ... I have gotten to the point where I believe Disney has no intention of ever fixing it. None whatsoever. Send a note to Joan Martin!

Funny I just posted something along those lines, How us long time fans need to counterfeit the guidemaps which showed the park open till 11PM or even 1AM most nights in the summer, Not to mention the bills of fare for the buffet's which at one time had prime rib. And how we need to airbrush all our old photos from the 70-90's (pre-digital) so all the popcorn lights appear to be on.

I also find that tiresome.

Fixings bar been gone for a long time buddy, couple years maybe. Food at the Mara is indeed good but prices raised every time I stay. Other noticeable nickle and diming here are the the zebra domes, used to get 6 per pack which went down to 5 with a prices increase, then the following visit they were down to 4 with a further increase, was expecting a triple pack this May but was pleased to just find a price increase :greedy:

It may have been removed within the last two years ... but just within ... I wasn't there in 2015, but I know I went a few times in 2014 and it was there. So ... fairly recently it was removed. Zebra Domes ... haven't paid attention to them because, like Dole Whip, I find them vastly overrated.

But Disney absolutely is nickel and diming wherever it can. Fountain beverages at the hotels going up to close to theme park pricing is another screwing of Guests that has happened of late. ... Doubling the price of a small/kid's drink, because they know smart savvy Guests (like myself) have been buying a 99 cent drink, refilling it 3-4 times and getting all we need to drink just isn't enough profit for them, is a great example.

Since he was mentioned earlier and I know he's a favorite around here...

I just listened to 15 min of a podcast and I didn't know it was possible, but Jim Hill sounds even less credible when he's talking about Universal.

His explanation for the Seuss Landing trolley delay sounds utterly preposterous.

He shouldn't be a favorite anywhere. I think his biggest fan is in Japan right now (hopefully having a MAGICal trip!)
I get why people listen to him. Like any good con man he is great at spinning yarns and drawing you in. But that's all he does ... he takes something small that may well be true ... and then he BS's his way through the other 80 or 90%.

By the way, did you see that SDL will close at 10pm on the weekends and peaks days this summer?

WDW1974, have you heard any plans for Disneyland's Tomorrowland once The Star Wars Experience opens? So much of that space will be redundant or irrelevant after that. Thank you.

Just got a passholder survey and for the first time it included options that were negative. It was interesting to see that they are giving us answer options that show feedback that the passholder changes were not well received.

I don't blame them and I have had a few surveys recently with negative responses and room to leave comments (where I left no doubt of exactly who they were surveying!)

In order for me to keep my charter status this year I need to buy a Platinum Pass ... that's almost $100 more than last year's pass. Close to $600 with my charter discount and FL resident discount added in. Before some moron here who is paying $800 for a WDW AP tells me how good I have it, I'll simply state that it was only about 5-6 years ago that my AP cost $298 plus tax. It's basically doubled in that time. Yet the product is staler than ever. And what do I get added for that $100 ... unlimited PhotoPass downloads ... something that I have zero interest in. Frankly, for having an AP since the 1982-83 intro year I should probably be paying less than $300 now AND getting substantial discounts (30-50% on food and merchandise) ... but this IS Disney.

The only reason I am renewing is owning DVC and having a significant other who sees far more MAGIC in WDW than I do. I feel sorta over WDW ... I feel like the goal is to utterly destroy every thing ... every aspect of WDW that I hold near and dear ... cut down every tree ... build massive roads, which are congested as bad as 192 and I-Drive much of the time ... and have a resort that is a pale shadow of what it once was for rubes, BRAND advocates, social media 'infuencers', trapped DVC buyers and one-and-dones.
