I thought the WDI backstory for Disney Springs was bad, but the new backstory for Soarin' at DCA has got to be the nadir of WDI "story" absurdity. It's on the official parks blog, if you're interested.

It's all about a group of aviation enthusiasts who "developed a sort of flying theater -- a hang-gliding simulator that brings the exhilarating experience of flying to all visitors."

So now that they've finally "themed" or "storied" the exposed ride system, maybe they can now explain that Brer Rabbit carved the logs in Splash Mountain so that visitors could ride through the briar patch, or a club of ironic Caribbean enthusiasts build boats and staged robotic pirate scenes to share their ironic enthusiasm with guests.

To think that Walt and the WED designers had the audacity to build a Matterhorn with bobsleds on a coaster track. I shudder to think how current WDI would have storied the heck out of that.

It sounds like someone handed an intern "busy work" and this is what they came up with.

Don't worry, WDI has already retroactively applied a nonsense backstory to it.

This is an issue. I wish people had more self-control. Sometimes I have an extra 15-30 minutes and can drop in here, but don't even know where to begin. So ... I don't ...

Right now, my free time is about up ... I dropped the latest ToT news in my Marvel thread ... stuck a few posts here and have to run.

I do think posts here should have some Disney/industry connection or point or be removed. I know my threads provoke discussion, but this thread doesn't have to be 88 pages if 30 pages are just ... well, stuff!

Indeed. The problem is, there's thousands of posts a day and only a couple mods. So posters need to police themselves, and quite frankly, that's impossible. "It can't be MY posts that are pointless and tedious...now what was I saying about Jims seafood hut on Long Island..." So you're left with what you're left with I guess. You're right though, it would be nice to scroll through 30-40% less pointless posts/images/gifs...

They did a lot right with the Haunted Mansion movie in terms of production design, score, makeup, etcetera and the ghostly mystery stuff was neat. The biggest problem was making Eddie Murphy the star and making the A-Plot that tired old "Workaholic needs to learn to appreciate his family" story that Hollywood just won't let go, the current permutation being "Christopher Walken turns a corporate executive into a talking cat to teach him to bond with his daughter"
LOL So true...Seems like the HM Movie was definitely design before script... Even the back story was not bad, it was the rest of the plot set in modern day ... But the sets and production design were absolutely gorgeous...It is a shame the Guillermo DelToro reboot never came about... his Crimson Peak was a beautiful film and more what I hoped The Haunted Mansion would have been... maybe just not so dark...

He's still working on it. Currently on the fourth script draft.

Additionally, it seems like other Haunted Mansion media is starting to use his ideas. That Haunted Mansion book from Marvel's Disney Kingdoms line just introduced a version of Hatbox Ghost that utilized the Endless Staircase to travel to numerous haunted locations around the globe connected to the Mansion. Essentially Del Toro's vague "Hatty's the spider at the center of a Mansion web" concept.

It's a lot easier when the known trolls, snarky jerks and the absolute nonsense (you all know it but don't let on and to that I say bravo, guys) on ignore. It's an awesome feature. Granted, it looks like some folks are seriously arguing with themselves ( which is comical in its own way) but it makes sifting through the sands a bit less tedious.

People, like you more elgantly stated, will never be able to police themselves. Remember that we live in a world where everyone is right, all the time. And some people do what I refer to as "meowing to meow". Youre only doing it because you can.

Can't agree enough with this. Peak eye roll for me was when they invented that elaborate backstory for a stand selling turkey legs at Paradise Pier involving the epic tale of Don Tomas and his dream of... selling turkey legs on a midway. To me, this need to over-explain everything is a symptom of less rather than more creativity and perhaps a little too much time on their hands.

And Andy seems so angry and burnt out (I truly feel bad for the kid as I admire his passion.) I think within a year he'll be gone from that site and another kid who doesn't care so much about how things should be will take over. A kid that TDA likes better.

Gotta hand it to you, he announced he is leaving today.

Almost wonder if you inceptioned the idea...

I come home from just about every trip, saying how much I hate what I see the people doing to Disney's property. We started going when the park opened, people dressed up to go there. And people respected the place. Every restroom had an attendant, who cleaned up the sink after some one dripped water around. It was nice back then. Now, it's full of trash and trashy disrespectful people. My rant for the day.

Another reason why I prefer Tokyo...Japanese people still dress to impress...or cosplay, either one, it's still nicer than the average WDW guest

Perfect to the letter. I had to wait until 15 to get a phone and it was a very basic flip phone in an age where they had passed that. Then one year later the phone, if you were trusted, became a phone that could slide with a keyboard. The IPhone was not a thing until adulthood and I had to get a very old model and pay for my plan.

You must be very young.
