Can we all just agree that this looks incredible?

The Art does but what's the reality, As we've seen recently there is a huge disconnect between concept art and its realization

Wait a second....you mean we could have gotten MORE cardboard cutouts to hold up over our face at a meet and greet...and they would be Star Wars cut outs?? Dang, that would have been sweeeeet, and it would have really put all those Uni Wand Wavers in their place!
Nah, Star Wars can actually afford to give kids costumes and props. Just look at Jedi Academy.

Pandora's biggest problem is going to be the first year it looks great and afterwards if Disney treats it like everything else, it will look crap.

The injection of sensors in real plants as well as adding artificial plants seems to me to suggest crap is going to be destroyed within that first year of opening. I don't Disney Research did the study to see how many little kids and immature adults pulling away and grabbing things would their creations sustain. People are going to be ooh interactive plants and do things they aren't suppose to do with them. Based on my knowledge most plants outsides of trees aren't that durable.

Maintenance will be a pain with it going way up. Why? The have to maintain the correct levels of chemicals to artificially and consistently maintain the bio luminescent properties they want present at night which they were researching unless that idea when bye and they decided to go cheap and do it way of the tree of light. Add in maintenance of the fake plants, plus rides, the the structural status of the floating mountains (Because it would suck if one of those fell and hit some guests due to weakening after a long rough hurricane season from high winds). With the cuts occurring as is, most likely the only thing going to be maintained will be the rides and the mountains with the plants being an as needed basis.

Well there's that rainbow of sunshine I needed on a Sunday morning. :joyfull:

I agree with you, I hope they've factored idiots and children into the equation. And it took how long to destroy the Tony Baxter portrait which forced disneys hand to relocate and modify?

Remember how one of the vandals caught in the act claimed "It's what the actual miners would do"?
I can definitely see some people going "Military Man was right" when deciding to mess with Pandora.

I just looked it up. It's disgusting how some people behave.

Looks at how disrespectful guests are to the beautiful landscaping at Flowr and Garden. Traipsing through the flower beds like idiots, letting their precious children do cart wheels through them, throwing trash all over the place. Yeah, I'm not convienent this highly detailed environment we will see in Pandora will stay that way with the ever increasing amount of human swine that visits the parks each year.

I think that's just the sign of the times and of society's complete and total degradation, really.

I come home from just about every trip, saying how much I hate what I see the people doing to Disney's property. We started going when the park opened, people dressed up to go there. And people respected the place. Every restroom had an attendant, who cleaned up the sink after some one dripped water around. It was nice back then. Now, it's full of trash and trashy disrespectful people. My rant for the day.

While keeping up with our increasingly classless society is going to be a pain, they'll probably have no choice but to keep the land in tip top shape due to whatever was in contract they signed with Cameron. As we know, Cameron wanted this thing to be perfect, so I would strongly assume that maintenance standards were an integral part of the licensing deal. Because of this, I wouldn't worry about Pandora so much as I would worry about it having a big negative impact on maintenance across the rest of the park.

Probably as off topic as one can get, so message me if you have an answer/opinion:
As an educator, I am really curious as to why members of this board think that our society seems to not be as "classy" as we used to be...
I agree with this sentiment by the way, just wanting to know why you think it "is what it is" today.

I believe WB and J.K. Rowling have maintenance standards in their contract with Universal so it wouldn't surprise me to see the same from James Cameron.

It probably has something partially to do with how our society has nurtured narcissism and entitlement. Again, there's always been trashy people, but these values let the trashy become even trashier.

Edited for atrocious spelling

Maybe that is why we can't have nice things in Florida, we haven't proven to Bobby Boy that we deserve them.;)

Entitlement and disposability mentalities. Why take care of something if you're just going to get rid of it? There no longer is a need to treat what you have with respect.

The "Me" Generation and the continuation of giving them the focus they want instead of the individual thinking of the betterment of society.
