Given the current condition of Space Mountain, I would question whether it hasn't already reached number one. I believe @tirian has it on good authority that the ride is not safe. They installed brakes to reduce the speed and force of the ride to prevent wear on the track and support structure.Yes, but the difference is that once one would believe it when they told one about the 4 Keys to the Kingdom being ranked Safety, Courtesy, Show, Efficiency. Now it has become blatantly obvious even for the more uninformed observer that Efficiency has moved up to at least number 2 on that list (and one can only hope that it will never become number 1).

There were also several cases of rock work falling in guest areas due to a neglect in proper maintenance. This happened both in the queue for Splash Mountain as well as the area surrounding the Tree of Life. Thanks to very lucky timing no one was harmed. It is a dangerous thing to rely on luck not to be crushed by falling concrete or have a vehicle on a ride derail or crash.
This lapse in proper safety protocol would not be unprecedented for Disney. Recall that Disneyland also suffered through an age of extremely poor maintenance that led to guest injury and death. The concern that efficiency might become more important than all the other rules in running a Disney park (even safety) is not unfounded. It has before.
