And now there's buzz that $DIS might be looking at $NFLX.

On one hand it doesn't have the toxic content that Twitter has, and comes with people who actually know how to monetize tech. But it costs significantly more...

I honestly have no problem with Guardians Tower.

I realize that people like the Californian version of the Tower of Terror, but in my mind it was always the cheaper, less-interesting, less-effective version of an earlier masterpiece. Heck, it was the least-interesting of four such attractions.

For purely selfish reasons as well, I'd rather the west coast parks have unique attractions that I can't see on this side of the country.
A few things here. The Hollywood Tower hotel fits thematically into DCA, even though the land it's in is a disjointed mess. The fact that this will be part of a larger scale Marvel land softens the blow a bit, as does the backstory of the ride. If this was a new build we'd probably all be on board. The real issue is how does a Marvel land fit thematically into California?

I just looked at the pictures again and threw up in my mouth:hungover::eek::confused:

This is just god awful bordering on criminal. Thank god our version of ToT is safe...for now.
The Tower at DCA didn't look anywhere near as good as the DHS version. You may not like the theme change, but it's very likely this will be a better looking version of the new theme than Tower was of the old theme.

The DCA power plant overlay is an abomination that will mess up sightlines all around the park. It sure doesn't say "California" in any way. Well except in the "hey we make movies here and it was in a movie" way. I did consider the CA version of ToT to be less thematically appropriate to the subject matter and I am grateful WDW has been spared this approach thus far. It really looks "cheap" to me. I better take a closer look.
The Tower of Terror was already causing sightline issues, this is just different sightline issues.

It would be amazing to see how systemically DIS destroys the Netflix culture.

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback about Iger's Disney acquisitions is that they have tried to let each of their acquired companies to maintain their cultures. The one exception may be the way Rasulo ran Maker.

I don't get a sense that this acquisition makes sense. Seems like Hulu would be a cheaper target and Time Warner with HBO would be an ideal mix of incremental IP and distribution power with HBO GO. (heck, they could spin off Turner and keep everything else to minimize their cord cutting exposure)

Either way...it appears that Iger and the board have made it known they are looking. With ESPNs growth rapidly slowing, they need a new growth engine to complement the organic growth they have triggered with the Lucasfilm,Pixar and Marvel acquisitions. Twitter doesn't fit that bill. Netflix may, but it would be too expensive for the impact it would make.

I'd be on board if only for the fact that all of their movies could potentially be in one place, right?

It would be so much more way complicated than that because of all the existing deals. It would eventually swing that way, but it would be quite a cluster to get there.

Given they are one of the only major players in the physical media business, I also don't think you'll see Disney streaming its classics for a very very long time. It would be more like Apple Dumpling Gang stuff LOL.

The Netflix deal is idiotic. One Disney already has a deal with them for all their upcoming film releases. Two. they would have to lose their shares of Hulu when Hulu is actually starting to trend upwards due to anti-trust rules. Lastly, with all the other streaming services whose to say they will keep putting shows/movies on Netflix for Disney to mainly profit from.

The Board should strongly consider blocking Bob from making any major acquisition in the last 21 months of his tenure. The greatest possible amount of friction needs to be used by the board to prevent Bob from starving new management of the resources that allowed him 10 years ago to buy Pixar. Only the best possible deal for the long term health of the company should be able to pass such muster.
