A Spirited Dirty Dozen ...

I'm wondering if that 'burn' statement was code for all the reporters/analysts out there:

'Stop putting those 'truthy' things in your reports and stick to the Zenia issued manuscripts'...

It also sends a not-so-subtle message to other members of the 'inner circle'; it's passive-aggressive and indicative of toxic mgmt. culture. I'd even say it's Machiavellian, as Iger is so beloved by Wall St., but at DisneyCo, likely feared. Whatever it is, I don't think it's good leadership. But anecdotal evidence (a family member is a long-time financial analyst at a Dow 30 company) suggests that those politics are par for the course.

This somehow seems like the kind of thing that might get extended, or at least might crop up during the side ticketed events at MK, for the remainder of the year. Probably depends on how it does, of course.
So rides will now need to provide space to store popcorn buckets while the owner is on a ride?

I see the potential to result in a mess with popcorn debris on the ground in the parks, cues, and in ride vehicles as a few buckets make their way onto rides.

Perhaps we will see finally themed lockers a la Universal.

I get the feeling that they're not too worried about the mess, considering that they're willing to try this in the first place. Not saying it's a great idea, though. :/

ETA: Why do they need the additional space? Have a lid on the bucket and it's just one more bolus alongside the honkin' huge merch bag full of stuffed Stitch dolls.

Chapek would do good and contact the Red Cross to get mobile blood donation vehicles to the All Star Resorts and Pop/AoA. This will help with immediate need and replenish inventory.

I say this as a former Red Cross Biomedical Services employee... Blessedly, the Red Cross does not operate in the Orlando area. OneBlood (www.oneblood.org) does, and they do a phenomenally better job than the Red Cross. That said, after a major event like the Pulse shooting, blood donations come in very high numbers that attenuate after a while. What would be great is for people to feel that strong need to help and donate well after the event. :(

The ones I've seen in the past aren't that big and had lids.

Not sure whether this link has posted here yet. I found it interesting ... sorta.
Again, Bob takes personal responsibility for not including the Main Street USA concept in SDL ... I do believe that. I also believe that he took as much 'USA' out of the park as he could due to his Chinese overlords and his future political aspirations (Governor? Senator? Ambassador? ... We'll know more come 2018.)

He's just so...slimey. Are we sure he's not an AA, because he really seems programmed and over-botoxed.

I don't think us regular folk have enough information on the new attractions to comment on their caliber, but I find it hard to believe they'd spend so much on Avatarland and NOT have at least one of the attractions be an E.

The phrase that suddenly comes to mind is, "Stranger things have happened..." I'm not so sure I'd call 7DMT or Little Mermaid a straight-up E, and any dining lifestyler who says that Be My Guest is an E-ticket needs to be clubbed upside the head with a turkey leg.

So Bob thinks he's personally responsible for the park's existence.
Ha.

At the end of the article:
USA TODAY: How would you characterize the Shanghai project in terms of your legacy with the company?

ROBERT IGER: I don't think about legacy

:hilarious: Thanks for this link. It's a real treat!

On a tangential note - did anyone see the full-page ad in the NY Times a couple of days ago that Xinhua News Corporation took out about the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the 'Shanghai Spirit'? It did not mention Shanghai Disneyland...but for me it shows that there are much bigger issues about the US-China relationship and the future of this park. It had a picture of the Communist Party leaders with Georgian and Russian leaders (I don't remember specifics). But all I could think about was Bob Iger shaking hands at SDL. If Iger really is still considering a political future (which he has previously denied interest in) - he's got some work to do.

I'm in a crap situation where I really love the popcorn buckets but I can't eat popcorn.

Still, I'm curious to see any new designs for the buckets. I'm a bit of a design freak.

Hey, listen... Popcorn disposal is one of the services I gladly offer to the world at large. I promise appropriate containment and quick removal from the scene. (Quicker if it's prepared as a mild butter 'corn.)
