A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

Holy hell that guy can talk fast!

But seriously - that was excellent. Eventually they're going to have to stop responding to internet outrage or 1) no one will work for them, 2) they're going to be stuck in the "family-friendly" genre forever, and as we've seen in the parks, family-friendly includes toddlers.

Disney needs to figure out how to teach the world that "Owned by Disney" and "made by Disney Studios" aren't the same thing. It was easy to pull off adult releases under the names of other studios in the past because no one typically paid attention to which studio owned what (Disney purchased Miramax prior to the release of Pulp Fiction and Clerks), but now it's right there in the open with people talking about it all over the place (Lucasfilm, Marvel & FOX, anyone?). If Disney isn't careful, they're going to pigeon-hole themselves into PG-13 and under.

Oh, and lets not forget that pesky little Marvel logo on the back of the Deadpool blu ray box. Marvel is listed 2nd to 20th Century Fox.

It just seems like more threads were created this time, idk. A Disney world forum is a weird place to send spam bots.

It would seem that way, wouldn't it? LOL.

My understanding is that they don't intentionally target by subject - their bots just scan for sites with the board software they know how to manipulate, then go to town until caught. This site is really good at shutting them down, thankfully.

I do wonder why they don't know enough to know that this is an English-speaking site, though, and don't spam us in English instead LOL. ;)

Still on the #RehireJamesGunn bandwagon, but I’d love to see the same people who ousted him have a meltdown if the Wachowskis were asked to direct GotG Vol 3.

Just in the interest of staying completely accurate...DISNEY ousted him, let's not forget that. The mob who called for it was initially led/incited by some far-right wing sources, but there actually were a lot of more liberal folks on the initial bandwagon as well. Many many people on both sides found - and still find - his statements very offensive.

It wasn't until after he was fired when people started to realize that the impetus came from where it did that the backtracking ensued, once people realized it wasn't "one of their own" pulling the trigger.

I get finding the jokes offensive. What I don't get is being more offended by something that was meant as jokes than by the reason these tweets were reintroduced to the light of day to begin with. I haven't seen many, but there are a handful who think he deserved to be fired.

I posted about this in the Disney-Fox thread but I thought it'd be a nice discussion piece here as well considering Disney's purchase of 21CF is looming over all our heads.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during some of the acquisition meetings.

"Let's buy FOX! They have edgy material!"
"Oh wait...Gunn has decade-old tweets that people are screaming about - we have to fire him!"
"About that edgy FOX material..."

One of the reasons the James Gunn story took off was because of his visibility and accessibility on social media.

I don't really think "edgy" entertainment is the issue for Disney -- it's also a question of how visible any blowback is. Being able to share screenshots of Tweets added fuel to the fire. If the controversy had boiled down to a YouTube clip of an old standup routine, for example, Gunn would probably still have his job.

He should feel like he's another satisfied customer of the social media machine.

Right. My point was, though - they flip-flopped after they found out who was the one who initiated the stink. If it had been some far-left group, you wouldn't see nearly as many people being upset about him being fired.

It's ridiculous. I don't care which side you're on, cyber attacks should be prosecuted. I don't agree with political smear campaigns either - it speaks ill of all involved. Sharing of facts? Fine, but don't try "spinning" them or twisting them to suit your purposes.

I was angry even before I knew who the original source was...that just made me even angrier. Fired over tweets almost a decade old? Give me a break.
