A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

I was under the impression it was the original Luigis that exceeded 100 million.

You're right Peter, I think we got confused with the original Luigi's back then. Disney just waited too long to bring back the Flying Saucers and unfortunately, the creators of the original who had fixed the issues with the first one had either retired or passed away at that point. End result is that WDI came out with a low capacity dud that I can believe cost 100 millions.

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree ride system has been shopped to at least one park outside the US that I know. The park passed on it due to the huge (for a flat ride) cost. So, it appears to be a Zamperla creation that Disney purchased the rights to. Now, are those rights limited to markets that Disney is present in or Zamperla messed up by offering the ride to outside customers?

The investment announced by OLC for the Big Hero 6 attraction is 6 billion yens or 53 million USD. This is the Big Hero 6 themed version of Mater with Baymax as the "tractor". This also include a shop that will sell multiple popcorn flavors.

ironically they could have easily used (IMO) the Hunny Hunt/Mystic Manor/Aquatopia ride system for Luigi's Flying Tires and had a good attraction that was more reliable

Like I said earlier, it’s coming to five resorts.
DLR- Mater’s CL
WDW- Green Aliens/Buzz TSL
TDL- Baymax TL
HKDL- Sleigh Ride FL
SHDL- Woody’s Roundup TSL

Disney holds patents for the Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree ride system. There are likely development costs associated with Mater’s that make it more expensive than the subsequent versions.

Zamperla was likely offering to develop a similar ride. Disney does buy exclusive rights globally. No one else can buy a 16 arm spinner like Dumbo. They’ll also buy regional rights at times, like some of the Intamin rides in Toy Story Playland.

You're right. Zamperla who already did a multiple table ride called the Demolition Derby was likely shopping around a larger version. Who would pay a few millions for a larger tea cup ride that is more complicated mechanically and lacks the whip action that make Mater so amazing? I'd also be curious to know if WDI changed supplier for the new versions of Mater in Tokyo, WDW and Shanghai Disneyland. I am asking that because I know that even though Roaring Rapids at SDL is similar to Grizzly River Run, WDI went with S&S Sansei instead of Intamin.

The only way I see the ride coming to DLP is as a Big Hero 6 clone in Tomorrowland or Walt Disney Studios. Walt Disney Studios already have the Cars Quatres Roues Rallye that is the ancestor of the ride.

Eh, Luigis was free roaming, the rest stick to the path. Personally I loved the flying tires...different is good. When everything is an LPS, it takes away from the uniqueness.

yes, but the path isn't the same for every vehicle, so you don't really know which way you're going each time

It’s hard to read much into vendor selections for China. There are two reasons unique to China that I could see for a change in vendor not based on animosity.

First has to do with the requirements for imports. I cannot recall the name of the agency at the moment, but all rides in China must be certified by this agency. Like many things dealing with the Chinese government, it is a process that at times is inconsistent, capricious and protectionist. Even simple variants of a ride can lack certification, as in a 6 arm spinner may be good but the 8 arm is not allowed.

The second is the desire for locally manufactured products. This is usually not an all-or-nothing proposition. Design work can still be done by a foreign firm and partial fabrication can be done locally. An easy way to do this partial local sourcing is with steel coasters. The supports for a steel coaster are steel pipe and can be made by many companies all over the world. Most of the major steel coaster manufacturers are okay with having the supports manufactured by a local firm. Vekoma is willing to go a little further and has an affiliate they will outsource simple track pieces to if so desired. S&S has previously outsourced all of their track production for the 4D coasters in China. Intamin does all of their manufacturing in Switzerland, so I could see a scenario where Disney chose S&S because they were willing to outsource manufacturing to their Chinese affiliate and thus appease local manufacturing desires.

The way I heard it, the old guys didn't "fix the issues" with the original; they had just figured out that a fan-floor hovercraft ride was a bad idea to begin with. It took modern WDI several million dollars and a couple years to reach the same conclusion.

My bet is on 'Howard the Duck' if its remembered at all, its more akin to the 'creature features' which used to air on saturday afternoons on the local 'Independent' TV station. Fun to watch yes, memorable no.
I think out of all the Marvel movies, they are going to last the longest because Guardians was fun and in my opinion memorable. The rest of the Marvel movies I think just bleed together as one really long boring movie(and I am a lifelong marvel fan). I would prefer they keep the old stuff, GMR was one of my absolute favorites but I think Guardians is going to have staying power and won't look really foolish as a choice in 15 -20 years. Though I still think they have no place in any current Disney parks

I freaking love Guardians. They're such a motley crew of misfits, they're HILARIOUS as well as heroic, and our entire family loves them.

EDIT: I have 2 sons on the autism spectrum who both have a total lack of tact and are very literal, so Drax cracks me up huge!

To add to this response that I'm quoting myself in...I said to my 11-year-old the other day after I busted him doing something stupid: "See, I told you I have eyes in the back of my head". After which, he proceeded to feel around my entire skull looking for them. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
