There are plenty of reasons to look at selling ESPN but that’s not one of them. On air personalities get in trouble all of the time on many networks. ESPN handled the situation appropriately. No reason to get out of the business.

The Times report did mention a molestation incident, so the possibility of a couple more sexual assault accusations is a possibility. It doesn’t necessarily matter that Weinstein wasn’t a serial rapist per se, but his actions were just as likely to be severely traumatizing episodes that the victims have lived with for years. Payouts don’t make things better for the victim.

I have a hard time with the fact that some of these people who were well-known and were in a position to expose this behavior, who instead chose a financial incentive not to. That enabled him to continue his behavior and victimize those who couldn't be expected to "take it on" - those production assistants/etc. who don't have the wealth and power that some of the individuals who accepted settlements had.

Even beyond them - the amount of people who were not directly involved and knew about this, and the fact that it remained such "insider knowledge" for so long, is really unconscionable. Weinstein is a scumbag. He deserves what he is getting. But the fact is a lot of people have a lot of explaining to do, but our current cultural stance is to applaud these people for piling on after the fact, which isn't courageous at all.

Noticed ABC News didn’t do their typical “Disney is ABC’s parent company” thing with the Weinstein story on World News Tonight with regard to Disney owning Miramax when some of these incidents occurred.

Very interested to hear spirit’s thoughts on the situation because Disney will get ensnared as scrutiny continues.

Well, from that angle - I do think there is a massive difference in the effect of some guy being disgusting and flapping his thing at you and being drugged and raped, but that seems like a subject for a different day, considering we both think he is a total scumbag either way. My only reason for mentioning it is I'm trying to figure out what the "illegal" parts are versus the "disgusting human being" parts.

Looks pretty good, but then I guess it better.
Nothing too surprising in the trailer, though. We get it; everyone's really powerful and good guys might become bad guys. This is what always happens in middle Star Wars movies.
I'll see it, of course, but I'm still thoroughly burned-out on Star Wars and this hasn't made me any more excited or less.

I'm just miffed this wasn't shown in front of the film when I saw Blade Runner in IMAX last Saturday. That would have been neat.

Oh....I'm far from burned out on Star Wars...seeing the movies with my oldest son (11) has been so fun!

I found the first teaser for Last Jedi bland and underwhelming, almost put me off seeing it. Was becoming a bit worried. Today's trailer looks great though, rekindled my optimism and i'm definitely in.

Hopefully Rian Johnson will do Star Wars justice. Looper is the only thing of his i've seen thus far and i'm a huge fan of it (time travel plotholes aside).

Judging Discovery on the pilot alone is really not wise. I am aware that the way it is broadcast in the US set the show up for that. However the pilot is really much more of a prologue.

I watched the fourth episode now and I am hooked. It feels far more modern than previous Star Trek series, especially because it changed to a long story format instead of one story per episode. But that is something I personally enjoy. However, I find the characters in the Discovery crew interesting and believable and am looking forward to next Monday!

The only thing I don't like is all the Klingon being spoken, especially since the subtitles on Netflix here in Germany are so difficult to read.

Reading between the lines of the trailer and that misdirection, I'm more convinced than ever that the earlier spoilers were true, and that by the end of the film - people are going to be seeing red. ;)
